Arm shares were reported down 1.6% to $297.63 at about 11:25 a.m. ET on October 7, 2026, as Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop Ultra and advanced its RTX Spark Windows-PC push. That intraday snapshot shows the events coincided; it does not show that Microsoft’s launch caused Arm’s share decline.
What happened to Arm shares?
GuruFocus reported Arm shares down 1.6% to $297.63 at approximately 11:25 a.m. ET on October 7. This is a single intraday quote, not the closing price. The report does not establish why the shares moved, so the timing should not be read as evidence that Microsoft’s announcement triggered the decline. GuruFocus’s October 7 market report

What is Microsoft’s agentic AI laptop?
Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop Ultra, powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark. Axios reported a starting price of $2,599 and availability beginning October 16, 2026. Microsoft described Copilot using local models alongside cloud models, while the report also said Meta’s Muse personal agent was coming to Windows. These are launch details, not independent tests of the laptop or its AI features. Axios’s October 7 launch report

The launch was the latest step in a previously announced platform rollout. In May, Microsoft said RTX Spark would power Windows laptops from Surface, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and MSI; in September, it said the PCs would arrive in October. What is NVIDIA RTX Spark, and can AI agents run locally?
Microsoft describes RTX Spark Windows PCs as designed for local AI workloads and agents. It calls RTX Spark an Arm-based AI superchip developed with NVIDIA, MediaTek, and Microsoft, and lists up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and up to 128GB of unified memory. Those are Microsoft’s platform specifications, not independently verified performance results. Microsoft Devices Blog’s RTX Spark specifications
“Local” does not mean every AI feature runs solely on the laptop. Microsoft’s launch framing allows local models to work alongside cloud models. Separately, Microsoft’s Copilot+ documentation says some Windows AI experiences use an NPU, and software must be programmed to use NPU hardware. That NPU guidance should not be conflated with every RTX Spark GPU workload or taken to mean all agents operate entirely on-device. Microsoft Learn’s Copilot+ PC developer guide

Why is Arm connected to the laptop?
Arm licenses processor architecture and compute technology to chipmakers; it is not the laptop manufacturer and is not necessarily the seller of the finished chip. On Arm’s July 29, 2026, Q1 FY2027 earnings call, CEO Rene Haas described NVIDIA RTX Spark as “the first agentic PC built on Arm’s Compute Subsystems.” That establishes a connection to Arm technology, but does not disclose how much Arm earns from each device. What does the share move mean for investors?
The launch gives investors a visible example of Arm-based compute entering a new AI-PC category, but the stock snapshot alone cannot show whether the product materially changes Arm’s financial outlook. The key unresolved measures are actual RTX Spark laptop volumes and the royalties, if any, Arm receives per device; neither is stated in the cited earnings-call material.
Arm’s laptop page claims “Up to 18% faster single-threaded performance.” This is Arm’s own claim, not an independent test and not a direct benchmark comparison of the Surface Laptop Ultra. Arm’s laptop product page

What buyers should check before choosing an RTX Spark PC
The launch announcements do not provide independent head-to-head tests of Surface Laptop Ultra. Buyers comparing it with other laptops should verify the actual configuration and price, then look for comparable independent results for sustained CPU and GPU performance, battery life, software and peripheral compatibility on Windows on Arm, and whether the applications they need run locally or rely on cloud access.
