To spawn a tamed dinosaur in ARK: Survival Ascended, authenticate as an administrator and run GMSummon "BlueprintName" level. For example, GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150 is the commonly documented form for a tamed Rex. Use Summon "BlueprintName" when you want a wild creature instead.

The commands below come from third-party command guides and should be treated as unverified until you test them in a private world or controlled server. ASA command behavior can change with patches, and the older spawndino/cheatspawndino syntax is not confirmed for ASA.

Admin commands are available only after the game accepts your administrator authentication. In a single-player game, the console is generally available without a server password. On a multiplayer server, enter your server’s administrator password first:
EnableCheats <admin password>Replace the angle-bracketed text with the actual password; do not type the brackets. One commonly cited behavior is that authentication does not persist after you disconnect, so enter EnableCheats again when you reconnect if commands stop working.

Open the command console using the key or controller shortcut for your platform. Third-party lists identify Tab on PC. Xbox and PlayStation 5 use controller combinations, but the exact combinations were not consistently verified in the available material; check the current in-game control layout or your server documentation rather than assuming a shortcut.
- Stand in a safe, open area before spawning. A large creature can appear inside terrain, structures or another animal.
- Keep the complete blueprint name and its quotation marks ready to paste.
- Test on a private or single-player save first, especially after an ASA update.
- Save the world after a successful test if the server does not save automatically.

Use normal straight quotation marks around the blueprint. A third-party guide warns that leaving the blueprint unquoted can cause the game to interpret the entry as a different command, such as Summon, rather than the intended GMSummon form.
How to spawn a tamed dinosaur with GMSummon
1. Authenticate on a multiplayer server
Open the console and enter:
EnableCheats your-admin-passwordPress Enter. If the server accepts the password, continue with the spawn command. If nothing happens, reconnect and authenticate again, then check that you are using the server’s administrator password rather than your character or platform account password.
2. Enter the blueprint and level
Use this structure:
GMSummon "BlueprintName" 150For the commonly cited Rex example:
GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150The game should create a tamed Rex at or near your position. Replace the blueprint and level with the creature you need. Do not add a comma, colon or extra quotation mark.

3. Check the result before moving it
Look at the creature’s name, species, level and tame status. If the result is wild, you probably used Summon, omitted the GM prefix, or entered a malformed blueprint. If no creature appears, move to open ground and try again after authenticating.
GMSummon versus Summon
The first word determines the practical result. GMSummon is intended for a tamed spawn. Summon creates a wild creature at the player’s location:
Summon "Rex_Character_BP_C"Summon does not use the same level argument shown in the GMSummon example. After it appears, you can tame the animal normally or target it with a taming command. A wild spawn is useful when you want normal taming behavior, a challenge, or a creature that other players must tame themselves. A GMSummon is faster for an administrator who needs a usable mount or replacement immediately.
Using ForceTame and DoTame on an existing creature
ForceTame
Point the crosshair at the creature you want to tame and enter:

ForceTameThis is a direct crosshair-based action, so verify the target before pressing Enter. Aiming at the wrong creature can tame an unintended animal.
DoTame
For an eligible conscious creature in front of you, use:
DoTameBecause the two commands use different targeting descriptions, use ForceTame when precise crosshair selection matters and DoTame when the intended target is clearly in front of you. Neither command replaces a failed blueprint spawn; they act on an existing creature.
Blueprint names, short IDs and SDF
Blueprint commands identify the creature through a longer internal asset name. The name must match the creature’s ASA blueprint and should remain inside quotation marks. The Rex example uses Rex_Character_BP_C; other species require their own exact identifiers.

Some command lists offer a short-ID alternative:
SDF <dinoID> <level>For example, the placeholders represent the short creature ID and the requested level, not literal text. SDF can be convenient if you already know the correct ID, but short IDs are not interchangeable with blueprint names. If an SDF entry fails, return to a known blueprint form and verify the ID against a current ASA-specific list.
What level will the spawned dinosaur have?
The number at the end of a GMSummon command is the level you request. One third-party guide claims that ASA can apply a taming bonus on top of the typed level, suggesting that a command for about level 100 might produce a level-150 tame. That behavior is not confirmed, so do not use the claim for balancing, breeding plans or competitive administration without testing it on your own version and server settings.

Older ARK references commonly show a five-argument command in this pattern:
CheatSpawnDino <Blueprint> <Spawn Distance> <Y Offset> <Z Offset> <Level>That syntax was documented for an earlier game context. It has not been established as a working ARK: Survival Ascended command here. Do not publish it to a live ASA server as if it were guaranteed. If you need a tamed animal, start with GMSummon; if you need a wild animal, start with Summon. Only test the older form in an expendable private save, and expect it to fail or behave differently.
Troubleshooting failed spawns
“Unknown command” or no response
- Run
EnableCheatsagain on multiplayer; authentication may have expired after reconnecting. - Confirm that you opened the actual admin console, not a chat box.
- Check capitalization, spaces and spelling. Start with the exact structure
GMSummon "Rex_Character_BP_C" 150. - Remove smart quotes copied from a formatted document and use plain
"characters. - Test in a private world to separate a command problem from server permissions or a mod conflict.
The creature is wild instead of tamed
Check that the command begins with GMSummon, not Summon, and that the blueprint is enclosed in quotes. If you intentionally spawned a wild creature, use normal taming, ForceTame or DoTame as appropriate.
The wrong species appears
The blueprint or short ID is incorrect for the creature you intended. Copy a current ASA identifier, test it away from other animals and inspect the result before repeating the command. Do not assume an identifier from an older ARK edition works unchanged in ASA.
The dinosaur appears inside an object or terrain
Move to a clear area and run the command again. Spawn placement is tied to the player’s location, so walls, foundations, cliffs and nearby creatures can obstruct the result. Remove the unusable animal with the server’s normal cleanup procedure rather than repeatedly spawning replacements.
The level does not match
Record the typed level and the final displayed level, then repeat the test after confirming server difficulty and other relevant settings. The reported taming-bonus behavior is not confirmed for every ASA configuration.
Related administrator commands
Command lists also commonly include administrative utilities such as BanPlayer <steamID>, UnbanPlayer, ListPlayers, ServerChat <message>, SaveWorld, cheat god, cheat ghost and GFI for items. These are separate from dinosaur spawning. Their availability and exact syntax should be tested on the server version you administer rather than assumed from a list written for another release.
A safe administrator workflow
- Back up or use a disposable private save.
- Open the console using your platform’s current shortcut.
- On multiplayer, enter
EnableCheatswith the administrator password. - Spawn one known creature with a quoted blueprint and a moderate level.
- Verify species, tame status, level and location.
- Only then use the command on the live server.
- Save the world and record the tested syntax after a successful result.
This procedure matters because no official command reference was established for the syntax above, and ASA updates can change command handling. Treat every command as version-sensitive administration rather than a permanent guarantee.
