No—Capcom has not confirmed remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6. Executive producer Jun Takeuchi has said the company is planning for the point when the remake line reaches the era of the numbered games, but that is a long-range comment, not an announcement that either game is in development. Capcom’s announced next remake is Resident Evil Veronica, scheduled for 2027.
What Jun Takeuchi said about the two Resident Evil tracks
Takeuchi described the series as moving along two tracks: numbered games continue its ongoing story, while remakes revisit earlier entries. He also said Capcom is thinking about what happens when the remake series reaches the era covered by the numbered titles. PC Gamer reports his comments; its wording is a translation rendering, not a verified official English transcript.

That raises the natural question of what Capcom might do with games such as Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. But the connection is an interpretation of the future problem, not a statement by Takeuchi that those remakes are underway. GamesRadar’s coverage explicitly cautions against treating the remarks as confirmation of either title.
What Capcom has officially announced
Resident Evil Veronica is scheduled for 2027
Capcom announced Resident Evil Veronica on June 8, 2026. It is a remake of the 2000 game Resident Evil Code: Veronica, with a reimagined story and RE ENGINE graphics. Capcom lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with a 2027 release window; the exact date and further details were left for a later announcement. Capcom’s announcement is the confirmed remake plan readers can point to today.

Existing remakes are coming to Nintendo Switch 2
Capcom has also scheduled Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. Their stated digital release date is October 16, 2026, and their physical release date is January 29, 2027. These are platform releases of existing remake titles; they do not indicate development of RE5 or RE6 remakes. Capcom’s release details include the dates and editions.
Where RE5 and RE6 stand
Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 are existing games in Capcom’s series lineup, not remakes. The company’s official lineup is useful for finding the original titles, but its listing does not say that remake versions are in development. Capcom’s Resident Evil series page lists the games.

There is no confirmed remake release date, platform, feature set, or preorder information for either title in the announcements cited here. Any proposed order or timetable for future remakes—including the idea that RE5 must follow RE Veronica—should be treated as speculation, not a Capcom schedule.

Capcom reported more than 213 million cumulative Resident Evil game sales as of June 30, 2026. It also reported on September 10, 2026, that Resident Evil 2 had exceeded 20 million cumulative worldwide sales. Those figures describe the franchise overall and RE2 respectively; neither is a sales figure for RE5 or RE6, nor does either establish Capcom’s plans for remaking them. Should you wait for an RE5 or RE6 remake?
If you want to play either story now, the originals are the only versions established in Capcom’s series lineup. If you would rather wait for a remake, there is no confirmed project or date to plan around. The practical distinction is simple: Resident Evil Veronica is announced for 2027, while an RE5 or RE6 remake remains unconfirmed.
