Are Pune Data Engineering Jobs Harder to Get Right Now?

Pune has active Data Engineer postings, but current indexed listings do not prove that applicant competition is increasing. Here is what the local figures say about demand, skills and advertised pay.

Pune has active data-engineering listings, but the available figures do not prove that competition is rising. Skillenai counted 84 Data Engineer postings in Pune over the 90 days ending September 28, 2026; its short-term demand indicator was 20% lower than in the preceding four weeks. Those are posting signals, not a measure of applicants per job.

What the latest Pune figures show

Skillenai’s labor-market index recorded 84 Pune Data Engineer postings in the 90-day window ending September 28, 2026. It says the count is deduplicated and filtered to the canonical role “Data Engineer” and Pune location. The index is useful as a snapshot, but it is not a census: listings can be missed, duplicated or misclassified, and the count says nothing about the number of candidates applying. Skillenai’s methodology and current market index provide the source context.

In that same September 28 snapshot, Skillenai’s demand indicator was down 20% against the prior four weeks. A drop in indexed postings does not establish that a job is easier or harder to get. Openings and applicant supply are different quantities, and these figures do not track candidates per vacancy.

Which skills appear in Pune postings?

Python and SQL were the most frequent skill mentions in Skillenai’s indexed sample. The counts and shares below describe those 84 postings, not the requirements of every Pune employer:

Skill Postings mentioning it Share of the indexed sample
Python 50 59.5%
SQL 50 59.5%
AWS 31 36.9%
PySpark 29 34.5%

These mentions point to a practical way to assess a vacancy: check whether the role calls for programming and query fundamentals, then identify the particular cloud and data-processing tools named in its description. Do not assume every position requires the same stack or that a skill mention alone reveals the expected depth.

Why might the search feel competitive?

Employers may screen for overlapping capabilities—coding, databases, cloud services and distributed processing—while a visible set of openings can draw both new entrants and experienced people changing roles. That is a plausible explanation for a difficult job search, not a finding about Pune’s applicant pool: the available local posting data does not report application volumes, candidate growth or applicant-to-opening ratios.

TeamLease EdTech’s broader role profile associates data engineering with “Programming Skills,” “Database Management” and “ETL Processes.” Its employer survey was administered from April through July 2024 for the July–December 2024 hiring period, so it offers older context rather than a current Pune vacancy measure. In its cited city comparison, Bangalore had the highest Data Engineer hiring intent at 73%; the result does not establish Pune’s current demand. TeamLease EdTech’s hiring-intent report.

What salary figures can—and cannot—tell you

Get U Hired reported median advertised annual pay of ₹1,850,000 and a middle range of ₹1,850,000–₹2,500,000, based on 50 listings that disclosed pay and dated from September 7, 2025, through September 7, 2026. This is a small subset of advertised listings, not a census, official salary survey or promise of an offer. Pay can differ with seniority and role scope. Get U Hired’s salary aggregation.

How to judge your own prospects

Use the market snapshot to guide a focused search, then evaluate each live employer listing on its own terms:

  • Match your skills to the posting: establish your Python and SQL foundations, then prioritize the cloud platform and processing tools the specific role names.
  • Check the level and scope: distinguish entry-level, mid-level and senior responsibilities, and note whether the work centers on pipeline development, operations, data modeling or platform ownership. The available sources do not provide a reliable Pune-wide breakdown by level or scope.
  • Verify compensation and work arrangement directly: confirm the current salary range, location expectations and remote, hybrid or onsite terms in the employer’s live listing. The sources do not establish a definitive Pune-wide mix or identify which employers drive current demand.
  • Track application outcomes separately from posting counts: postings can show that roles are advertised; only evidence about applicant numbers or consistent candidate-to-opening trends can establish whether competition is increasing.

What the evidence does not establish

The figures support a careful conclusion: Pune had active indexed Data Engineer postings in the 90 days ending September 28, 2026, and the index recorded a short-term decline in demand. They do not show that competition is becoming more intense, identify a market-wide applicant profile, or establish a definitive list of hiring employers. A stronger claim about rising competition would require comparable applicant-to-opening data over time or employer-reported candidate volumes.
