No—not necessarily. Nintendo Store prices, Nintendo eShop prices and prices from independent online retailers can differ. The answer depends on the specific game, its physical or digital format, your region and the price at the time you check.
What does “Nintendo Store” mean?
The phrase can refer to Nintendo’s own online store, which sells physical products and digital games, or to the Nintendo eShop, where you buy digital games. “Online prices” may also mean listings from independent retailers. Those are different sellers and channels, so there is no single price comparison that applies to all of them.

Nintendo’s official guidance is that retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and that prices may vary by title. A third-party listing therefore is not guaranteed to match Nintendo’s listed price. Nintendo’s March 25, 2026 pricing announcement explains the policy.
When can digital and physical game prices differ?
Beginning in May 2026, new Nintendo-published digital games exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 have an MSRP different from their physical versions. Nintendo said the change would start with preorders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. This policy is limited to the specified new Switch 2 titles; it does not establish a general rule for every Nintendo game, older releases or every region.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Nintendo says the digital and packaged versions offer the same game experience, while their different MSRPs reflect costs associated with producing and distributing each format. The announcement does not say digital will always cost less, or that physical will always cost less. Retail partners may set their own prices for either format.
How to compare prices fairly
Compare equivalent listings rather than just the headline number. A digital eShop listing and a physical retailer listing may have different MSRPs, taxes, delivery costs or included content.

- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
- Match the game and edition: Confirm the title and whether it is a standard, deluxe or other edition.
- Match the format: Compare digital with digital or physical with physical, unless you specifically want to compare formats.
- Check the region and currency: Do not compare prices from different regions as though they were like-for-like.
- Compare the final cost: Account for applicable tax and, for physical purchases, shipping. Nintendo’s US order FAQ says applicable delivery-area tax is added at checkout. See Nintendo Store Order Support – FAQ.
- Note when you checked: Prices and offers change. Record the seller, region, format and date if you are comparing or sharing a price.
Without current listings for a named game, there is no reliable basis to say which seller is cheaper or whether prices match. Nintendo’s official sources do not provide a market-wide statistic for how often retailer prices match its own.

Region affects availability and the price you see
Nintendo’s US online store ships only to US addresses, and its Canadian store ships only to Canadian addresses. The applicable tax is based on the delivery area and is added at checkout, according to Nintendo’s order FAQ. Physical and digital items also cannot be combined in one Nintendo Store order.

Nintendo lists digital purchases through Nintendo.com as available in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States. These are service-availability rules for the Americas, not a worldwide list. Nintendo’s digital-purchase information covers the service.
Buying a digital game from Nintendo.com
For Nintendo.com digital purchases in the supported Americas countries, you need a Nintendo Account that has accessed the eShop on a Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 at least once. During checkout, choose the console; the game downloads to that selected system. Nintendo says digital sales are generally final. A preorder can be cancelled before payment is processed and preload begins, subject to Nintendo’s stated conditions. Check the applicable Digital Game Purchases Through Nintendo.com FAQ before ordering.

Why prices can change over time
Prices can also change by date and region, so an old launch price is not necessarily the current price. As a dated example, Nintendo’s May 8, 2026 investor briefing listed a US Nintendo Switch 2 suggested retail price change from $449.99 to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026; the US figures exclude tax. It listed the Europe My Nintendo Store price changing from €469.99 to €499.99 on that date, with tax included. These are hardware prices, not game prices, and do not demonstrate that game prices differ. Nintendo Co., Ltd., May 8, 2026 investor briefing.
