ASUS sells a product called the 90W Universal Adapter, but that name does not mean it works with every ASUS laptop. To know whether a charger is right for your machine, match its electrical rating to your exact laptop model, confirm the connector, and, for USB-C charging, confirm that the laptop supports charging through that port at adequate wattage. A plug that physically fits is not proof of electrical compatibility.
Why a physical fit is not enough
Many ASUS adapters share a barrel jack size or a USB-C connector with other models, which makes it easy to assume they are interchangeable. ASUS’s own support guidance warns against that assumption: even when a DC jack has the same size, the adapter’s voltage and current must also match the laptop’s requirement. ASUS gives 19V / 4.74A as an example of the kind of rating that has to line up. A connector can be the right shape and still deliver the wrong voltage, too little current, or too little power.

Check your laptop’s exact charger requirement
Start with the laptop model, not the charger. ASUS publishes adapter requirements per model, so the answer depends on the exact laptop you own.
- Note the exact model number of the laptop. It appears on the product label and in the system information of the operating system.
- Open the ASUS product page for that model and go to the Tech Specs section. ASUS also points to the user manual for the same adapter specification.
- Look for the recommended charger power. ASUS says this may also appear in MyASUS, Armoury Crate, or ProArt Creator Hub, depending on the model, so check those apps if the spec sheet does not list it.
- Read the label on the adapter you want to compare. It shows input and output voltage and current, which you match against the laptop’s requirement.
- Confirm the connector: the DC jack size or a USB Type-C port.
- If the label or documentation is unclear, contact ASUS support rather than guessing.
Reading the electrical rating
Wattage is volts multiplied by amps, so the two numbers on an adapter label tell you its output power. ASUS’s 90W Universal Adapter is rated at 19.0V and 4.74A, which works out to about 90W. ASUS’s support page uses 19V × 6.32A = 120W as an example of how the calculation works. That 120W figure is an illustration of the arithmetic, not a requirement for any particular ASUS laptop.

Voltage is the figure to treat most strictly. ASUS’s guidance is that the adapter specification must match the laptop’s requirement, and a higher-rated adapter is only acceptable under the replacement criteria described below.
Connector types: DC jacks and USB-C
ASUS lists several common DC connector sizes: 4.0 mm, 4.5 mm, 5.5 mm, and 6.0 mm. It also lists USB Type-C. These sizes show the range of connectors used across the lineup. They are not a compatibility chart, so a matching size tells you only the physical fit.

- DC barrel jacks: confirm the outer diameter in millimetres against the laptop’s documented size, then check the voltage and current.
- USB-C: fit alone is not enough. The laptop must support charging through that port, and the adapter must supply enough USB Power Delivery output for the laptop.
- Some adapters ship with several tips. Use only the tip that matches the laptop, and confirm the rating for that tip.
USB-C charging is conditional
A USB-C port on an ASUS laptop does not automatically mean it charges through that port. Check three things before relying on USB-C:
- The laptop’s own specifications state that it supports USB-C charging.
- The laptop’s recommended power is met by the adapter’s Power Delivery output.
- The adapter’s output profile matches what the laptop accepts. ASUS’s 65W USB-C adapter supports USB Power Delivery 3.0 profiles up to 20V / 3.25A.

ASUS 90W Universal Adapter
This is the adapter most likely to be mistaken for a universal charger. ASUS describes it as a 90W AC adapter for ASUS laptops and Ultrabooks, and it includes three connector tips. Its listing also gives international input and lists over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit protections. Treat it as a candidate to check against a specific model’s requirement, not as a fit for all ASUS laptops.
ASUS 65W USB-C Adapter
This adapter is built around USB-C charging and is intended for ASUS laptops that support it. It is a secondary option only for a laptop whose documentation confirms USB-C charging and an adequate wattage. The product page does not state a publication year, so confirm its details against the current ASUS page.

ASUS 48W Travel Charger
This charger lists several USB-C and USB-A output modes and names the Zenbook 13 (U325J) as a compatible model. A broad port count or a compatible-model field tells you about that product’s design, not whether it will charge a different laptop. Confirm the laptop’s own requirement before using it.

Choosing a replacement charger

- Choose a certified product.
- Choose one whose output power is higher than the laptop’s recommended power.
- Make sure the output voltage matches the laptop’s specification.
- Do not use an adapter with an incorrect specification. ASUS warns that this can damage the adapter or the device.
Replacement power cords and model-specific ASUS adapters are the most direct route when the original is lost or damaged.
What the safety protections do and do not cover
The protections listed on ASUS’s 90W Universal Adapter page are features the product is described as having. They help protect against electrical faults, but they do not replace matching the adapter to the laptop. A charger that is over-specified on the wrong voltage, or a connector that fits but delivers the wrong rating, is a mismatch regardless of those protections.
Limits of the available information
This guide relies on ASUS’s own product and support pages. It does not include independent laboratory testing of ASUS chargers. Some pages do not state a publication year, and regional input ranges and product specifications can change. For a given laptop, the current ASUS page for that exact model is the final reference.
