Apple says you can listen and talk with a non-Apple device, but Siri is unavailable. If you’re buying new earbuds to use mainly with Android, compare models with Android app support and quick pairing before choosing.
Do AirPods work with Android?
Yes. Apple’s guidance is explicit: “You can use AirPods as a Bluetooth® headset with a non-Apple device. You can’t use Siri, but you can listen and talk.” Pairing involves putting the specific AirPods model into pairing mode, then selecting it from your phone’s Bluetooth device list. The steps vary by model, so follow Apple’s pairing guide for non-Apple devices.

Once connected, they function as Bluetooth earbuds for listening and calls. That basic compatibility does not mean every Apple feature or control carries over to Android.

Some Apple-specific conveniences are missing or limited outside Apple’s ecosystem. Which features are affected depends on the AirPods generation and software, so don’t assume one fixed list applies to every pair. SoundGuys’ March 2025 overview discusses limitations on Android and notes that features such as Adaptive EQ and ear-tip fit testing are tied to the Apple-device experience. - LONG BATTERY LIFE — Get up to 5 hours of listening time on a single charge. And get up to 30 hours of total listening time using the case.*
There are also model-specific tradeoffs. RTINGS reports that some AirPods Pro 3 features are limited to iOS and that microphone performance varies with the connected device. Android Central’s AirPods Pro 3 reviewer says the earbuds connect to Bluetooth devices but work best with Apple devices; the reviewer’s view is that long-time Android users may find them not worth the trouble. Those are assessments of that model, not a universal verdict on every AirPods generation.
Do AirPods’ sound and noise cancellation still work on Android?
Bluetooth compatibility means the earbuds remain usable for audio, and noise cancellation can still be worthwhile on some models. SoundGuys reports that its lab found AirPods Pro 2 ANC broadly similar when connected to Android, Windows, or iOS. That finding applies to AirPods Pro 2 in the conditions tested; it should not be generalized to all AirPods.

When are AirPods worth it for an Android user?
You already own a pair
Try them with your Android phone if your main needs are listening and calls. Pairing is supported, and you can decide from your own use whether the fit, controls, call quality, and available features are enough for you. There is little reason to replace a pair that meets those needs simply because you switched phones.

- ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation help reduce outside noise before it reaches your ears, so you can immerse yourself in what you’re listening to.*
- HEAR THE WORLD AROUND YOU — The powerful H2 chip comes to AirPods 4. You’re buying earbuds specifically for Android
Compare Android-oriented options first. A companion app and quick pairing can make day-to-day use easier, while fit, microphone performance, noise cancellation, codec support, and price determine whether a specific pair is a good match. RTINGS’ Android guide treats app support and quick pairing as useful OS-specific selection criteria. Browse RTINGS’ Android earbud recommendations.
You want a particular AirPods strength
If you’re considering AirPods for a specific reason—such as the noise cancellation of a Pro model—check evidence for that exact generation and confirm that its Android controls and other features suit you. Do not assume that a feature shown in an iPhone-focused review will work the same way on your phone.

- Automatically on, automatically connected
- Easy setup for all your Apple devices
- Quick access to Siri by saying “Hey Siri”
- Double-tap to play or skip forward
- New Apple H1 headphone chip delivers faster wireless connection to your devices
You use a Mac or iPad, but not an iPhone
Consider whether those Apple devices will also be part of your listening setup. The available evidence here does not establish a complete feature matrix for every combination of AirPods, Android phones, Macs, and iPads, so verify the features you care about for your particular devices.
What to compare before choosing earbuds
Compare the exact models you’re considering against your phone and priorities. An Android-compatible alternative may offer features that matter more to you than the AirPods name, but there is no universal best-value choice for every listener.

RTINGS’ alternatives guide names Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro as a leading AirPods alternative and notes broader feature support across iOS and Android. Tom’s Guide’s September 24, 2025 article also recommends Android alternatives, including Cambridge Audio Melomania A100. These are starting points for comparison, not a guarantee that either model is the right fit or current best buy for you.
