Day 2 tokenomics is the operating economics of an AI service after its initial deployment: how much useful model output it delivers for the cost of keeping the system reliable, available and utilized. There is no universally standardized Day 2 tokenomics metric. To improve it, treat the full workload pipeline—not just the accelerators—as an operating system to measure and tune.
What Day 2 tokenomics means in practice
Day 1 gets infrastructure deployed. Day 2 is the continuing work: monitoring, maintenance, fault response, capacity changes, software and firmware upgrades, and usage measurement. Those activities shape the cost and reliability of serving AI workloads over time.

A useful operational question is: how much valuable inference or training work does the infrastructure complete per unit of operating cost, while meeting its reliability and data-control requirements? That is a practical framing, not a standardized accounting formula. Token counts alone can be misleading if the system is idle, bottlenecked, underused, or delivering output that does not meet the workload’s needs.

Accelerators can only deliver throughput when data can reach them and results can leave them at the required rate. Assess compute, storage and networking together. Storage latency or insufficient network throughput can leave expensive accelerators waiting, even when the GPU specification looks adequate on paper.

Trace the workload from input to output
- Identify where model weights, prompts, datasets and intermediate outputs reside, and how they move during the workload.
- Measure accelerator utilization alongside storage latency, network throughput and end-to-end request or job throughput.
- Locate idle GPUs and determine whether the cause is workload scheduling, data access, network contention, capacity imbalance or demand patterns.
- Test the actual workload mix, including peak periods and changes in model or input size, rather than sizing from a single idealized run.
The goal is not maximum utilization in isolation. It is useful throughput at the service level required, without overprovisioning one part of the pipeline or starving another.
Make operations part of the architecture
Reliability and maintenance affect economics because downtime, manual recovery and risky upgrade windows can reduce capacity that is available to serve workloads. Before selecting a platform, establish how it handles monitoring, fault response, scaling, upgrades and usage reporting.
Questions to settle before deployment
- What telemetry is available for infrastructure health, workload performance, storage and networking?
- Can faults be detected, diagnosed and remediated automatically, and which actions still require an operator?
- How are cluster scaling and rolling upgrades managed, and what disruption or maintenance window should teams expect?
- Can usage be reported by tenant, workload or service, and are tokens and GPU-hours defined consistently with the buyer’s billing model?
- Which integrations, infrastructure layers and environments are covered by the platform’s measurements?
Armada’s Bridge documentation describes infrastructure telemetry and storage observability, performance benchmarking, automated fault analysis and remediation, cluster autoscaling, rolling upgrades, and proactive fault management. It also describes bare metal, reserved virtual machines and PaaS clusters, with tenant usage reporting in tokens or GPU-hours. These are Armada-described capabilities; buyers should validate measurement definitions and integration coverage for their own environment rather than assume they establish service-level performance.

- High Security: The locked glass door ensures the security of data and equipment. Wall mount rack enclosure server cabinet is ideal for use in public places such as offices, effectively protecting the security of your devices.
- Hassle-free Installation: Fully adjustable square-hole mounting rails of the wall mount server cabinet facilitate device installation. Wiring holes on the top, bottom, and rear panels provide you with easy cable routing.
Choose a deployment model around data and control
Cloud, private, hybrid and localized infrastructure involve different balances of operational responsibility, data movement, control and cost predictability. Data residency or sovereignty requirements may make localized or private infrastructure attractive for regulated or sensitive workloads. They do not, by themselves, prove compliance or lower total cost. Likewise, data egress fees can matter when workloads move large volumes across environments, but the actual exposure depends on where data and services run.
Compare the operating model as well as the hardware: a self-managed deployment gives the buyer more direct control and responsibility, while a managed platform may take on parts of provisioning and operations. In either case, estimate total operating cost against the workload’s shape, data location, demand variability and reliability needs.
Compare architectures with evidence, not slogans
| Decision area | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Workload balance | Accelerator availability and utilization alongside network and storage throughput and latency. |
| Operations | Monitoring coverage, fault response, maintenance windows, upgrade process and scaling behavior. |
| Economics | Total operating cost and how token or GPU-hour consumption is measured and billed. |
| Data control | Residency and sovereignty needs, data movement, and potential egress exposure. |
| Operating model | Self-managed infrastructure, private or hybrid deployment, or managed platform capabilities. |
| Evidence quality | Independent measurements versus vendor descriptions, modeled claims or individual customer examples. |
Use the same representative workload and service requirements when comparing options. Request definitions for every reported token, utilization and cost figure; confirm what infrastructure and operations are included; and distinguish a measured result from an intended benefit or product claim.

What vendor examples do—and do not—establish
Tiatra’s September 28, 2026 article, “Architecting infrastructure to optimize Day 2 tokenomics”, describes several integrated deployments. Its examples illustrate architectural approaches, but the article does not provide neutral, comparable before-and-after cost or throughput figures.

KDDI: rack-scale AI infrastructure
The article says KDDI worked with HPE and NVIDIA on a rack-scale AI Factory at its Osaka Sakai Data Center, using NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and liquid-cooled infrastructure. It characterizes the deployment as improving operational economics and power-per-token overhead. Those are claims in the article; no independently verified measurements are supplied there.
TELUS: a sovereign AI factory
The article describes TELUS’s sovereign AI factory as using a private hybrid-cloud framework co-engineered by HPE and NVIDIA. It presents sovereignty and more predictable economics as benefits, but gives no quantified egress savings or independent basis for a legal-compliance conclusion.

HLRS: AI and engineering simulation
The article says the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) established the HammerHAI system with HPE and NVIDIA technologies for AI and engineering simulation. It claims a balanced environment addressed processing latency; it supplies no independent latency benchmark or comparative cost figure.
Broadcom’s August 31, 2026 announcement of VMware AI Factory describes a software-defined foundation for VMware Private AI Cloud, with automation intended to deploy AI-ready infrastructure and support Day 2 operations. It presents faster deployment and greater control over token economics as product aims, not comparative evaluation results. The announcement quotes Paul Turner, chief product officer of VMware Cloud Foundation Division, saying, “Enterprises want to run AI where their data lives, but the journey from metal to model is slow, complex, and expensive.” That is a vendor executive’s perspective, not an independently established finding.

Quick Recap
Turn the comparison into a decision
- Define the workload and service target. Specify whether the priority is inference, training or a mix, along with throughput, latency, availability and data-location requirements.
- Measure the current pipeline. Collect workload-level throughput and accelerator utilization together with storage and network indicators, including periods of peak demand.
- Map the operating responsibilities. Record who monitors, responds to faults, performs upgrades, scales capacity and reconciles usage for each option.
- Model total cost on consistent assumptions. Include the infrastructure and operations relevant to the workload, and make usage units and billing definitions explicit.
- Evaluate evidence at the right level. Treat customer examples and vendor-described capabilities as reasons to investigate, then require workload-specific validation before making an investment decision.
