ARC Raiders’ Frozen Trail 2.0 update went live on October 8, 2026. Its patch notes cover a new map, a rebuilt Skill Tree, a new reward structure, combat rebalancing, a long list of quality-of-life fixes, and a known-issues section published at launch. The headline’s phrase about players who “dreamed of” these changes for a year works as color. The official notes and press coverage do not establish that the specific fixes were requested for a year.
What the Frozen Trail 2.0 update adds
Embark Studios’ official notes describe Frozen Trail as the biggest update since launch. The headline additions are:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Pendola Pass, a new map and frozen Italian mountain setting
- Map conditions named Frigate and Redirection
- New enemies: Bully, Skulker and Hydra
- New weapons: Bantam and Stiletto
- Amplified Weapons, a revamped Skill Tree, and the Outpost and Research Bench
- 22 new quests and a Reward Pass
Quality-of-life fixes players will notice first
Most of the practical changes target friction during ordinary play. According to the official notes, players can now:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- open the map while downed
- drop loot directly from containers
- receive more contextual pings
- scramble up steep slopes for a short time
The notes also say hit registration improved when shooting at ARC enemies, and that a slide state now triggers after a player has tumbled for too long. Other fixes cover quest sorting, clearer reward and milestone progress, recipe unlock notifications, and party joining and voice chat behavior. These are the kinds of changes that feel like long-running complaints being addressed, but the official notes do not say how long each issue had been reported.

Skill Tree revamp
Embark says the previous tree was not offering enough interesting character-building choices, and that it acted on player feedback and internal data. The stated goal has two parts: “to look at under-performing skills, modify or replace them, and to get closer to the goal of making choice and expression a more core feature of the Skill Tree.”
Mid-branch choices
Some mid-branch nodes now require a choice between two skills. Choosing one means committing to that path rather than collecting both.
End-of-branch selections
Later nodes let players select up to two skills out of three, but only after they have invested enough points to reach them.

Embark says further tuning is likely as it observes how players engage with the new layout. Treat the current tree as a first version rather than a settled system.

Progression: Reward Pass, Reward Points and Raider Decks
The Reward Pass replaces the progression structure that had been tied to Raider Decks. The currency change is the most visible part of the switch.
| Element | Before Frozen Trail 2.0 | After Frozen Trail 2.0 (per official notes) |
|---|---|---|
| Currency | Cred | Removed and replaced by Reward Points, applied automatically to the currently active pass |
| Progression structure | Raider Decks | Reward Pass; Frozen Trail Pass has 60 levels across free and premium tracks |
| Existing Raider Deck rewards | Available through Raider Decks | Moved into the Legacy Pass; previously unlocked rewards remain granted |
| Active passes | Not applicable | Only one pass can be active at a time |
Because Reward Points apply only to the active pass, players switching passes should check which pass is active before spending earned points.
Combat and item balance
The balance changes are substantial and the notes are specific about them.

| Snap Hook attribute | Before | After |
|---|---|---|

Embark describes the Snap Hook’s intended role as burst mobility, with more commitment required per use. The new Grappling Hook broadens the set of mobility items instead of replacing the Snap Hook. The two tools suit different styles, and the notes do not declare one better.

Pendola Pass and Dynamic Loot Zones
Embark says it will test Dynamic Loot Zones on Pendola Pass. The value of an area can change from raid to raid, but the underlying loot type stays the same. A residential area remains residential even when the amount of value it yields changes. Because this is described as a test, it may change after feedback.
Known issues at launch
Embark’s notes publish a candid list of problems that were known on October 8, 2026. Later hotfixes may have changed some of them.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsGameplay and world issues
- Some weapon meshes are partly invisible when attachments are fitted.
- Footsteps occasionally go silent after shoulder swapping while sprinting.
- Field Repair is sometimes unavailable after it unlocks. The stated workaround is to restart the game.
- The Tether Launcher repair option is unavailable.
- Rare invisible lobbies can occur.
- A Hydra in the Cargo area can detect and shoot through walls.
- Standing on the side of a Cargo drop position can instantly eliminate a player.
Outpost issues
The Outpost section lists separate problems with camera obstruction, furniture clipping, and a few UI and lighting issues.

Performance and FSR
The notes describe performance optimization and AMD FSR 4.1.1 support. They publish no frame-rate or load-time measurements, so no specific performance gain can be stated from the official material.
Free-to-play window and Collector Set
Embark’s October 8 announcement said the game is free to play from October 8 to October 12, 2026. A €0.25 fee applies to PS5 in Germany, according to the same announcement. The announcement also published a 50% discount on all platforms at publication. These offers are date-sensitive. Confirm current pricing in your platform store, because they are not established beyond the announced period.
The Collector Set DLC is digital content. It includes a cosmetic set, the Renzo, the Dragon’s Breath Weapon Stencil, the Bob Hair Style, 2,400 Raider Tokens, and access to the Frozen Trail Premium Reward Pass.
Review context and limits
PC Gamer’s October 7, 2026 preview reports three hours with the update, most of it spent using the Grappling Hook. Its impressions of the Skill Tree and the map are one writer’s assessment, not an official claim or a broad player consensus.

Executive producer Aleksander Grøndal explained the update schedule to GamesRadar+ on October 7, 2026. He said: “At the same time, when we did the change of the update cadence, we also accepted the fact that we would have less players over a period of time, with the hope that we could reengage those players with more interesting pieces of content like Frozen Trail.”
Separately, PC Gamer reported on October 5, 2026 that Embark is revising Celeste to better represent actor Diana Gardner’s facial performance. Chief creative officer Stefan Strandberg said the character “has ‘never fully represented the depth of Diana’s performance.'”
These are the publisher’s descriptions and individual reviewers’ experiences, not independent measurements.

The Bottom Line
“
Frozen Trail 2.0 is most useful to read as a list of deliberate trade-offs: a Skill Tree that asks players to commit, a reward structure that depends on which pass is active, and balance changes that favor armored enemies over fragile parts. The known-issues list is long enough that players should expect rough edges while Embark continues tuning.
