Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe safest ARC Raiders loot rule is simple: craft in the field only when an immediate tool or consumable is worth spending your carried resources, and recycle during a raid only when the materials solve an urgent problem. If an item can be extracted and you do not need its components immediately, bring it back to Speranza first. Base recycling generally returns more than field recycling, but the exact output depends on the item.
Every keep, sell, or recycle decision should pass four checks: active quests, workshop and station upgrades, recipes that use the item, and the item’s value to your current loadout. This guide separates field crafting, field recycling, and Speranza recycling, then gives a practical decision process you can use for weapons, batteries, equipment, and research items.

Understand the three different loot actions
ARC Raiders uses similar inventory screens for several different jobs, but they have different consequences. Field crafting creates an improvised item from resources you have gathered Topside. Field recycling breaks down an item while you are still in a raid. Recycling at Speranza is the slower, safer option when you have successfully extracted an item and can process it at base.

Field crafting: make an improvised item during a raid
Embark Studios describes field crafting as combining resources collected Topside to create improvised items on the go. It is an emergency and opportunity tool: you can turn the materials in your current inventory into something useful before extraction instead of waiting for a return to Speranza.

Field crafting does not mean every workshop recipe is available in a raid. The Inventory Crafting tab shows the recipes available in your current context. Use its material filter to display recipes you can afford with what you are carrying, then decide whether using those resources is more valuable than extracting them for later progression.
Field recycling: break an item down before extraction
Field recycling is available during a raid. Open the item’s details and choose Recycle. The returned components are added immediately, which can free a slot and provide a material needed for a repair, craft, or objective.
The trade-off is efficiency. Current guidance describes field recycling as returning about half of the components in the cited cases, while exact returns vary by item. Do not treat “half” as a universal guarantee. The item’s detail panel and a maintained item database are more reliable than a blanket percentage.
Speranza recycling: wait for a fuller return
If you can carry an item out safely and do not need its components immediately, defer the breakdown until you are back at Speranza. Current guides generally advise this because recycling at base gives a better return than breaking the same item down in the field. You also preserve the intact item long enough to check its quest, recipe, upgrade, sale, and loadout uses.
Waiting is not always correct. A full inventory, a dangerous route to extraction, or an immediate crafting requirement can make field recycling the rational choice. Think of the higher base return as an opportunity benefit, not a command to carry every item no matter the risk.
Craft items in the field, step by step
- Gather and inspect your resources. Pick up Topside materials and check how much space and how many components remain. A recipe that is affordable now may compete with materials needed for a station upgrade later.
- Open Inventory. Switch to the Crafting tab. The recipes shown there are the field-craftable options available in your current game state; do not assume a recipe from a workshop menu can also be made during a raid.
- Filter for affordable recipes. Use the tab’s material filter to show what your current inventory can pay for. This avoids selecting a recipe that looks available but is missing one component.
- Read the recipe before confirming. Check the output, required quantities, and whether the item solves the immediate problem. A defensive item or tool that lets you reach extraction can be worth more than preserving a small stack of raw materials.
- Craft only after considering extraction. If the raid is already stable and your next objective is to bring materials home, keep the resources. If you need the item to survive a fight, traverse a hazard, or complete a task, craft it and accept the cost.
- Recheck your inventory. Confirm the new item appeared and note which materials were consumed. This prevents accidentally planning a second craft around components that are no longer available.
Field crafting is most valuable when timing matters. The same materials may be more useful at Speranza for a workshop recipe, but that future value is irrelevant if an improvised item is what allows you to extract with a valuable haul.

Recycle loot during a raid without wasting it
- Highlight the item. In your inventory, select the weapon, component, or other loot you are considering breaking down.
- Open item details. Read the item’s description, listed outputs, and any visible use information before selecting a command.
- Check for a Recycle command. Choose Recycle only when the item is eligible in that context. If the control is not present, leave the item intact and investigate its current status after extraction rather than forcing a decision.
- Compare the return with your immediate need. If the returned material completes a craft, upgrade, or survival plan, the lower field return may be justified. If it merely creates a small amount of a material you already have, keep the intact item until Speranza.
- Confirm the action. Recycling is destructive. Once the item is converted, you no longer have its intact quest, recipe, sale, or loadout value.
Use field recycling to solve a specific problem, not as an automatic way to clear space. Before dismantling, ask: “What will these components let me do in the next few minutes?” If the answer is nothing concrete, carrying the item out usually preserves more options.
Recycle an extracted item at Speranza
- Return safely with the item. Extraction preserves the item and avoids the reduced return associated with field breakdown.
- Store or select the item in your base inventory. Keep it separate from items you intend to equip or sell while you review its uses.
- Open its details and inspect every listed use. Look for recipes, station upgrades, quests, and other requirements before choosing Recycle.
- Recycle only after the checks. Use the base recycling option for items whose components support your current progression and that have no higher-value intact use.
- Record unusual outputs mentally or in a personal checklist. Returns are item-specific, so learning what a recurring item produces helps future decisions, but do not apply one item’s yield to another.
The advantage of waiting is not just a larger material return. An intact item can remain a quest turn-in, a recipe ingredient, a sale, or a backup loadout piece. Base recycling gives you time to discover that value before destroying it.
Use this keep, sell, or recycle decision framework
Rarity alone is not enough. A common-looking object may be required for a quest or several recipes, while a higher-rarity duplicate may have no immediate use for your character. Run each item through the following order.
1. Check active quests and objectives
Quest requirements override a generic salvage rule. If an objective asks for a named item or a quantity of a material that the item supplies, keep the intact item until the objective is complete or you have confirmed that another source is available. The cost of replacing a destroyed quest item is usually greater than the convenience of an extra recycle.
2. Check workshop and station upgrades
Workshop progression can consume the same materials used by field recipes. If your next upgrade requires a scarce component, preserve items that return it, even if the item has little combat value. Conversely, if an upgrade is already complete and the material is abundant, recycling can be reasonable.

3. Check recipe uses for the intact item
An item can be both a recycling source and a recipe ingredient. Read the item’s use list before dismantling. A component that appears to be clutter may be needed to make ammunition, shields, mines, or another tool later.

4. Compare sale value with material value
Use the sale value displayed in game rather than assuming all items in a category are worth the same. Selling preserves the item’s intact state until the transaction, while recycling converts it into components. Choose the option that advances your current objective: currency, a specific material, or inventory space.
5. Check your loadout and duplicates
Keep the gear you can actually use, plus a sensible backup when replacement risk is high. A duplicate that never leaves storage may be a candidate for sale or recycling, but confirm that it is not reserved for a quest or recipe first.
6. Decide where to recycle
If the item survives the trip and you do not need its components immediately, extract and recycle at Speranza. If carrying it costs a needed inventory slot or creates a serious extraction risk, field recycling can be the better expected outcome.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Action | Choose it when | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Keep intact | The item has an active quest, recipe, upgrade, sale, or loadout role. | Uses carry or stash space and delays material conversion. |
| Sell | The intact item has more value as currency than as a component source and you do not need it for another purpose. | You receive currency but none of the recycling materials. |
| Recycle in the field | You need the components immediately, need to free a slot, or extraction risk is too high. | Convenient access, but current guidance reports a lower return than recycling at Speranza. |
| Recycle at Speranza | You can extract safely and have no urgent need for the item during the raid. | Requires carrying the item out and gives up its intact uses after you confirm recycling. |
Why the Battery example matters
The Battery item illustrates why “junk” labels are unreliable. Its item database entry lists Metal Parts as its recycling output, but the same entry lists Batteries as ingredients for multiple recipes, including Energy Clip, Medium Shield, and Jolt Mine.
That means a Battery can be valuable in at least three different ways: as a direct recipe ingredient, as a source of Metal Parts, or as an item you sell if currency is your current bottleneck. Recycling it immediately may solve a Metal Parts shortage while making a later shield or mine craft impossible until you find another Battery. Check both sides of the item’s record before deciding.
The example also shows why a recycling yield cannot be inferred from the material name. Two items that both appear to produce a metal component may return different quantities or have different recipe demand. Treat every item’s output and use list as its own decision.

Field recycling versus Speranza recycling
| Decision axis | During a raid | At Speranza |
|---|---|---|
| Access to materials | Immediate; components can be used in the same raid. | Delayed until successful extraction and return. |
| Return amount | Current guides describe the return as about half in cited guidance; the exact item result varies. | Generally the preferred location for a fuller return when the item can be carried home. |
| Extraction risk | No need to carry the intact item to the exit. | You must survive with the item and spend carry space until extraction. |
| Intact-item options | Lost immediately after confirmation; quest, recipe, sale, and loadout value disappear. | Preserved during the trip, giving you time to inspect those uses. |
| Best use case | An urgent craft, a critical inventory-space problem, or an unsafe extraction route. | Routine material conversion when there is no immediate need for the components. |
There is no universal “always wait” or “always recycle” answer. Compare the expected benefit of the larger base return with the chance that the item or its slot will be lost on the way out. A guaranteed smaller return can beat a larger return you never extract.
Build a raid-to-workshop workflow
Before deploying
- Review the workshop upgrade or recipe you are working toward.
- Note scarce materials and items known to supply them.
- Leave enough inventory space for high-value loot instead of filling every slot with low-priority objects.
- Decide which gear is essential to your loadout so duplicates can be evaluated consistently.
While exploring Topside
- Pick up resources that support your current plan, not just anything that fits.
- Use the Crafting tab’s affordable-material filter before spending components.
- Keep an intact item until you have checked its quest and recipe uses.
- Field-recycle only for a stated purpose, such as completing an immediate craft or freeing a slot.
At the extraction point
- Recheck the items you are carrying and remove anything that has lost its priority.
- Do not dismantle a potentially useful item merely because the route is nearly complete; if extraction is safe, preserving it for Speranza usually keeps more choices open.
- Remember that losing the raid can erase the value of every item still in your inventory, including materials you planned to recycle later.
After returning to Speranza
- Sort items by quest, upgrade, recipe, loadout, sale, and recycling roles.
- Recycle only the items that have no higher-priority intact use.
- Compare the returned components with your next workshop requirement rather than accumulating materials without a plan.
- Revisit the list whenever a quest, recipe, or patch changes your priorities.
Research bench and blueprint changes in Frozen Trail
Blueprint acquisition is no longer described solely as a matter of finding random blueprint drops. GamesRadar+ reported on September 24, 2026, that the Frozen Trail update introduced a research bench. Found items can contain research points, and those points can be directed toward chosen research, including some blueprints.
GamesRadar+ quoted Aleksander Grøndal, executive producer, describing the goal this way: “Instead of necessarily having to just chase RNG to get the blueprint you want, there is a system that is called research, where you can find items in the world that contain a number of research points, and using those, you can actually choose which research that you want to have, and that includes a number of blueprints as well,”
This changes how you evaluate research-bearing loot. An item may be worth keeping for its research points even when its sale price or recycling output looks attractive. However, the current eligibility rules, point costs, and complete list of blueprint unlocks were not established in the available reporting. Check the research bench in your current build before discarding an item on the assumption that every blueprint can be purchased there.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
“Every common weapon should be recycled”
A current secondary guide suggests recycling unused common weapons and keeping uncommon or better examples. Treat that as a starting heuristic, not an official rule. A common weapon can still be needed for a quest, have a useful sale value, fit a backup loadout, or produce a material your next upgrade requires. Apply the full decision framework instead of using rarity as an automatic command.
“Field recycling always returns 50 percent”
Broad guides describe field returns as about half, and one item-specific database entry may state a 50-percent return for that particular item. Neither establishes a universal percentage for every object in every patch. Read the item’s current details and expect yields to vary.
Best Value
“The first recipe listed is the best use”
The most visible recipe is not necessarily the most important one. Compare all listed uses with your actual objective. A Battery needed for a Medium Shield may be more valuable than the Metal Parts produced by recycling it, depending on your next raid.
“A full inventory justifies destroying anything”
Inventory pressure is a real reason to recycle, but choose the lowest-opportunity-cost item. First remove items with no quest, recipe, upgrade, sale, loadout, or research role. If a high-value item is the only thing taking space, weigh its likely extraction value against the risk of losing it.
“Blueprint research makes every found item disposable”
The research bench covers selected research and some blueprints, not necessarily every item or every blueprint. Confirm that an item contributes points and that the desired research is eligible before using it as salvage.

The official Embark Studios field-crafting help article is dated October 27, 2025. A crafting guide reporting verification for Trials Season 5 and patch 1.44.0 was published September 5, 2026, while a recycling basics guide was updated October 4, 2026. The Battery database result did not show a clearly stated current update date. These systems are patch-sensitive.
Before relying on an exact yield, crafting cost, station requirement, or blueprint condition, open the item’s current in-game details or consult a maintained database that identifies its update state. If the game’s displayed return conflicts with an older guide, trust the current in-game value for that item and patch.
A concise rule for every item
Keep it when an active quest, recipe, upgrade, loadout, sale, or research purpose outweighs immediate materials. Sell it when currency is the bottleneck and the intact item has no higher-priority role. Recycle it in the field only for an urgent need or a meaningful space and risk advantage. Recycle it at Speranza when you can extract safely and want the generally better return. This approach turns loot into progression without sacrificing options you have not checked.
