Iometer

What Iometer is
Iometer is a free I/O subsystem measurement and characterization tool for single systems and clusters. It covers storage I/O and network I/O, with custom test profiles, command-line or automation use, and CSV result export. In the Windows interface, Access Specifications define workload settings, while project screenshots show workload configuration, running stress tests, and a tachometer display. The software has two required components: Iometer and Dynamo. Iometer itself runs in a Windows environment, while the installation notes list Dynamo for Windows, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, and NetWare. SourceForge lists version 1.1.0 Windows installers and binaries, documentation, and source downloads. The executables use the Intel Open Source License; the iomtr_kstat kernel module uses the GNU Public License. A known-issues page documents workarounds, including Linux and Solaris segmentation-fault cases. The project directs installation or compilation questions to its mailing list.
Who it suits
It suits developers, IT users, science and research users, and system administrators who need configurable I/O workloads. It is also relevant when tests must run through automation and produce CSV files.
What it does well
- Free plan
- Custom test profiles
- Command-line or automation support
- CSV result export
- Storage and network I/O workloads
What to know first
- Two components must be installed
