Instead of Google Home
Google Home alternatives
Google Home brings compatible cameras, lights, locks, thermostats, speakers, displays and appliances into one place for setup and control. You can pin favorites to a dashboard, review camera feeds and device activity, and create automations with suggested setups, a text prompt or a customizable editor. It works with Google and Nest products, Matter devices and thousands of Works with Google Home partners. Android, iOS and web access, voice assistance and local control round out the core offer.

There are trade-offs to weigh before switching. Many features depend on the app, Wi-Fi and internet, availability varies by country and language, and controlling Matter devices away from home requires a Matter hub. The app is free, but Google Home Premium costs $10 or $20 per month, with annual billing options. Compare alternatives by supported devices and protocols, local operation, platform coverage, camera or energy tools, and whether a dedicated controller is part of the setup. A focused app may fit an existing device ecosystem, while self-hosted software offers a different way to assemble a home system.
