Instead of GnGeo

GnGeo alternatives

GnGeo gives Linux users a free, open-source way to run NeoGeo ROM sets by MAME name. It supports AES emulation, save states, home, arcade, and unibios modes, configurable controls and hotkeys, per-game settings, scaling and display effects, sound options, and several 68k and Z80 CPU cores. Frontends described for the project add previews and configuration controls. Games are ZIP files, while the BIOS is separate, and the software depends on SDL 1.2.x and libz.

Alternatives make sense when Linux-only support, NeoGeo ROM focus, external BIOS requirements, or the lack of repository releases do not fit your setup. Some target Atari Jaguar hardware, NeoGeo CD discs, Nintendo DS, Windows, PlayStation Portable, Dreamcast, or PlayStation 2 instead. Before switching, weigh the device you already own, the required game format, BIOS handling, controller options, display and audio features, networking or portability, and each product’s stated limitations. GnGeo’s command-line and configuration-file approach may suit users who want detailed per-game control, while other choices prioritize a specific console, frontend, or physical media workflow.
