Instead of Cloud Custodian
Cloud Custodian alternatives
Cloud Custodian gives teams YAML-based control over cloud resources: select resource types, filter matching items, and apply actions. It covers security enforcement, compliance, tagging, unused-resource cleanup, and cost management across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. Policies can respond to provider events or run as scheduled jobs, while validation and dry-run modes help preview results. It is free, open source, and runs on Linux, macOS, Windows, or self-hosted deployments, with metrics, records, and logs available from policy runs.

Alternatives become relevant when you need infrastructure provisioning, Kubernetes-focused safeguards, broader policy decisions, or configuration tests in CI. Cloud Custodian’s Kubernetes, Tencent Cloud, and OpenStack support is in beta, and its Terraform integration is in alpha. AWS event-triggered policies must run in the same region and account as their resources, unlike periodic policies. Before switching, weigh whether you need live-resource actions or pre-deployment checks, which policy language fits your team, where enforcement runs, and whether your target environment is cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, or application data.
