Overview

Arsenal Image Mounter (AIM) mounts disk images as complete disks in Windows, giving disk-aware tools access to more than a mounted volume alone. It is best suited to digital forensics and incident response work, especially when BitLocker access or forensic inspection matters. Its free tier is substantial, but Professional Mode is costly and AIM is not recommended for hypervisors.

These longer terms reduce the stated monthly equivalent but commit buyers for three or five years. Paid plans are therefore best for ongoing professional use, not occasional mounting.

Platforms

AIM is Windows-focused, with a Linux CLI also described by Arsenal. Recommended Windows environments are Windows 10 version 1703 or later, Windows 11, or 64-bit Windows Server 2016 or 2019, with .NET 10. Bare metal is recommended for full functionality. Hypervisors and other environments are not recommended or supported, even if some features may work there. Offline activation is possible by transferring a license file and activation file between an internet-connected workstation and the offline machine.

Arsenal warns that antivirus software may flag its tools because of obfuscation; exclusions or temporarily disabling antivirus may be required. Arsenal no longer requests manual false-positive reviews, so users should weigh that operational friction before deployment.

AIM makes most sense for forensic and incident-response practitioners who need disk-level access, BitLocker handling or specialized NTFS visibility. Free Mode also suits technical users who need mounting and scripting without VM or forensic-report features.
