If Applitools Eyes results show no screenshot, first identify what is actually missing: the whole test or step, the checkpoint image, only the baseline, or content at the bottom of a full-page capture. Those symptoms have different causes. Check that the run reached an Eyes visual checkpoint, open the correct batch and step, and then investigate report access or page loading according to what you see.
Identify which screenshot is missing
Eyes captures images at visual checkpoints. The SDK uses the application driver to capture the screen and sends it to the Eyes Server for comparison. The result is then available for review in the Test Manager or an integration-specific report. A run that never reaches a checkpoint cannot produce that checkpoint’s screenshot.

- The test or step is missing: check whether the test ran, completed, and called an Eyes checkpoint.
- The step exists, but its checkpoint image is missing: inspect the run and integration/report path; this is different from a screenshot that exists but is incomplete.
- Only the baseline is missing in a Playwright HTML report: the enhanced report hides baseline images from logged-out viewers. Sign in to view the baseline.
- The screenshot is present but cut off or missing lower-page elements: investigate lazy-loaded content and full-page capture behavior.
- The images appear but the failure is hard to see: inspect the comparison at higher magnification or use the current dashboard’s comparison views and diff overlays.
Do not assume that a missing image means a visual mismatch. First establish whether Eyes produced a result and which image or page region is absent.
Trace the run to an Eyes checkpoint
Follow the integration’s test output and confirm that the test reaches the visual checkpoint call. Eyes’ documented flow is test execution, checkpoint call, driver capture, image transmission to the Eyes Server, comparison, and a result link. If the run produces no session or result link, begin with test execution, SDK/API configuration, and connectivity rather than the dashboard.

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
- Run the test and inspect its console or CI output for errors, completion status, and an Eyes results link.
- Confirm the test executes the checkpoint code path. A test that exits, skips a case, or fails before the checkpoint will not have that checkpoint image.
- Check that the integration is configured for the intended Eyes account and application. Follow the setup instructions for the SDK/framework actually in use; configuration is not interchangeable across integrations.
- For Appium Python, the Applitools quickstart says to provide the API key through the
APPLITOOLS_API_KEYenvironment variable or the SDK property. That is an Appium Python example, not a universal setup instruction. - For Storybook, the documented CLI discovers stories, captures visual checkpoints, and prints a dashboard link. Use that integration’s output to verify discovery and capture rather than assuming another SDK’s setup applies.
If execution reaches the checkpoint but no result appears, retain the run output and any error text while checking SDK configuration and server connectivity. The symptom alone does not establish which of those is at fault.
Open the correct batch, test, and checkpoint step
Use the result link emitted by the run when possible. Otherwise, open the Applitools Test Results page and locate the relevant batch. The dashboard organizes results by batch, test, and step: open the batch, select the test, then choose the checkpoint step to inspect its baseline, checkpoint image, and visual differences.

- Filter or locate the batch by the run date, application, batch name, or status.
- Open the batch and select the test that corresponds to the run you just executed.
- Open the step where the visual checkpoint should have occurred.
- Compare the baseline and checkpoint images, then inspect the diff if the failure is not immediately apparent.
A similarly named batch or test can make a successful capture look absent. Confirm the run identity and checkpoint step before changing test code.

- If the checkpoint image itself is missing, return to the run and confirm it reached the Eyes checkpoint; logging in does not create an image that was never captured.
Do not confuse dashboard access with test execution authorization: an Eyes execution API key authorizes new test execution; it does not by itself grant dashboard access to view or edit test data.
Load lazy content before capturing a full page
A full-page screenshot can be present yet incomplete when the site loads content only as the visitor scrolls. The page may grow as scrolling triggers lazy-loaded images or sections, while capture proceeds using the page dimensions observed earlier. Applitools Support’s article “Screenshot is missing content due to lazy loading,” updated September 22, 2021, recommends ensuring the page is fully loaded before capture.

- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
- Wait for the page’s initial load and any known application-specific readiness condition.
- Scroll downward in screen-sized increments so each region has a chance to trigger lazy loading. Applitools describes this as more reliable than jumping directly to the footer.
- Continue until the expected lower-page content has loaded, then scroll back to the top.
- Run the visual checkpoint after the content is present.
Scrolling straight to the footer is an option, but it may skip intermediate triggers on some pages. If content still appears missing, verify that the application has actually rendered it before the checkpoint rather than relying on a fixed delay alone.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWhen full-page capture mode may be involved
Applitools’ visual settings documentation describes CSS and Scroll screenshot capture modes in the settings context it covers. CSS is the default and is recommended there for pages with fixed-position elements; Scroll uses standard JavaScript window scrolling. If a full-page image is problematic after expected content has loaded, try the alternative mode only after checking the settings and SDK documentation applicable to your integration. Capture settings and availability may vary by SDK or account configuration.

Inspect a failure that has no obvious visual difference
A failed comparison may be caused by a small changed region rather than a visibly different whole page. Current Applitools dashboard documentation describes side-by-side and toggle comparison views, colored diff overlays, and region annotations. Use these views to localize the change and zoom in on it. An older Applitools Support article dated December 11, 2019 also describes Radar and a magnifying-glass view; because its UI guidance is historical, verify that those controls still appear in your current dashboard.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| What you see | Likely area to check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No test, step, or result link | Test execution, checkpoint path, SDK/API configuration, or connectivity | Confirm the run completed and reached the checkpoint; inspect errors and integration setup. |
| Test and step are present, but the checkpoint image is absent | Capture or report path | Verify the checkpoint executed and inspect the integration-specific report configuration. |
| Checkpoint and diff appear, baseline does not in a Playwright HTML report | Logged-out report access | Authenticate; baseline images are hidden from logged-out viewers in this report. |
| Screenshot exists but lower content is missing | Lazy loading or full-page capture mode | Scroll in increments, wait for content, return to the top, then capture; consider the documented alternate capture mode where applicable. |
| Failure is marked but difference is difficult to spot | Small changed region or comparison view | Use side-by-side or toggle view, diff overlays, annotations, and zoom. |
Or skip the browser setup
If your immediate need is a standalone website screenshot rather than repairing an Eyes checkpoint, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API. This does not restore an image missing from an Applitools Eyes run or add it to the Eyes Test Manager; it is an alternative way to capture a URL directly.
One GET request returns an image or PDF. The example below saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe; replace the URL with the page you need. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot and page-inspection tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Eyes API key let me view a dashboard baseline?
No. The execution key authorizes test execution; dashboard access is separate. In the Playwright enhanced HTML report, baseline images are hidden from logged-out viewers.
Will taking a ScreenshotNeo screenshot repair a missing Eyes result?
No. ScreenshotNeo captures a URL separately; it does not create or restore an Eyes checkpoint in an Applitools test run.
