Apple’s new indoor camera is the LG Indoor Cam Plug-In, an LG-made device integrated into Apple Home. It starts at US$199.95 in the United States and is announced for launch in the U.S., Canada and the UK in December 2026. Its standout privacy feature is physical: when a privacy automation is triggered, the camera tilts downward so the lens points at the floor.
What Apple’s new indoor camera is
The LG Indoor Cam Plug-In is part of the Apple Home Collection, a smart-home lineup developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Apple provides the Home integration and software experience; LG Electronics makes the camera hardware. It is not an Apple-manufactured camera.

Apple says setup starts with one tap using an iPhone. The camera is managed in the Apple Home app, with no separate vendor app or account required.

How the physical privacy mode works
When configured not to monitor, the camera can tilt downward until its lens faces the floor. You can trigger that behavior with household-presence automations, such as when a resident arrives, or with a scheduled automation.
Why the movement matters
A lens aimed at the floor provides a visible, mechanical indication that the camera is not pointed into the room. That is different from relying only on a software toggle or a digital overlay.

What the movement does not prove
Apple’s published information does not establish that no frame can be captured while the camera is moving or before the tilt is complete. The physical action should therefore be understood as a privacy signal and viewing-direction change, not as an independently verified guarantee that capture stops at the instant an automation begins.
Apple’s privacy and processing design
Apple says camera footage and personal data in the Home app are end-to-end encrypted and inaccessible to Apple, LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Apple also says processing occurs locally on the customer’s Apple Home hub or in Private Cloud Compute.

For iCloud+ subscribers, encrypted camera footage can be stored for 10 days. Apple’s stated access model is that no one, including Apple, can access the data.
Does it require iCloud+?
Basic Apple Home camera integration is distinct from HomeKit Secure Video event history. Apple lists iCloud+ as required for that event-history feature and gives these camera limits:

The recorded video is encrypted and retained for 10 days for iCloud+ users under Apple’s published description. The storage plan limits refer to the number of cameras, not a promise of unlimited live viewing or other Home features.
Recognition and multi-camera features
With the supported iCloud+ service and compatible cameras, Apple Home can recognize people, familiar faces, pets, packages and vehicles. Apple’s HomeView interface can show up to nine camera feeds at once.

Recognition depends on a compatible camera and the relevant Apple Home and iCloud+ capabilities. The announcement does not say that every recognition category is available in every country, language or account configuration.

- An iPhone for the one-tap setup Apple describes.
- The Apple Home app and a compatible Apple Home hub for local Home processing.
- An iCloud+ plan if you want HomeKit Secure Video event history and encrypted recording storage.
- A suitable indoor power location, since this is a plug-in camera rather than a battery model.
How the privacy automation would work
- Add the LG Indoor Cam Plug-In to Apple Home using the Home app on an iPhone.
- Place it in the room you want to monitor and complete the camera’s Home configuration.
- Create a household-presence automation that runs when a resident arrives, or create a time-based automation.
- Set the automation so the camera is configured not to monitor during that condition.
- When the condition occurs, verify that the camera tilts down and the lens points toward the floor.
Because the camera’s movement is physical, check its position after installation. A blocked or poorly placed camera may not have enough clearance to tilt as intended.

Bottom line for buyers
The LG Indoor Cam Plug-In is aimed at households that want Apple Home control and a privacy action they can see: the camera physically points at the floor when a resident arrives or another automation says not to monitor. The trade-offs are equally clear: it is indoor-only, its US$199.95 price is a starting figure, availability is not scheduled until December 2026, and HomeKit Secure Video history requires iCloud+.
