As of October 4, 2026, Apple’s comparison page lists Apple Watch SE 3, Series 12, and Ultra 4 as current models. Choose SE 3 if you want a smaller aluminum case, Series 12 if you want more choice in size and materials, or Ultra 4 if you specifically want a 49 mm titanium watch. The best fit depends on which size, features, and connectivity options you will use—not simply which model sits highest in the lineup.
How do SE, Series, and Ultra differ?
Apple’s current comparison page distinguishes the three models chiefly by case size and material, display brightness, and listed battery estimates. The table reflects Apple’s published specifications; the interpretation column is guidance based on those configurations, not hands-on testing.

| Apple Watch SE 3 | 40 mm or 44 mm, aluminum | Up to 1,000 nits | Up to 32 hours; Apple testing conducted July and August 2025 | Smaller aluminum option |
| Apple Watch Series 12 | 42 mm or 46 mm; aluminum, titanium, or ceramic options | Up to 2,000 nits | Up to 38 hours; Apple testing conducted July and August 2026 | More choice of size and material |

Brightness figures are Apple specifications, not a comparative visibility test. The battery hours are Apple estimates from model-specific tests, not guaranteed everyday runtime or a controlled head-to-head benchmark. Apple says estimates vary with use, configuration, cellular network, signal strength, and other factors. The test scenarios differ by model, so the figures should not be read as a direct measure of how long one watch will last relative to another in your routine. Apple’s comparison page provides the model details and test footnotes.

Which Apple Watch should you buy?
Choose SE 3 for a smaller aluminum configuration
SE 3 comes in 40 mm and 44 mm aluminum cases. It is the straightforward choice if those dimensions and material match what you want; do not assume the name alone tells you which specific health or other features it includes. Check Apple’s current feature grid and footnotes against the functions you care about.

Choose Series 12 for size and material choice
Series 12 is listed in 42 mm and 46 mm sizes, with aluminum, titanium, or ceramic options. If you want a standard-line watch but care about case size or material, compare the exact configuration rather than treating Series as a single fixed design.
Choose Ultra 4 only if its larger format and features make sense for you
Ultra 4 is the 49 mm titanium option in this lineup. Its larger case and higher listed maximum brightness may matter to some buyers, but those specifications alone do not make it the right choice for everyone. Check its specific features and decide whether the size is comfortable and useful for your intended activities.

What should you check before choosing?
- Fit and case: Compare the listed dimensions and material, and consider how the case will feel on your wrist. If you plan to use a separate band, check that it is compatible with the exact case size.
- Features: Apple’s feature grid includes health, sleep, outdoor, connectivity, and other functions. Availability can depend on model, software, geography, and other conditions; read the relevant footnotes rather than assuming a feature is universal. Health notifications are not diagnoses.
- GPS or GPS + Cellular: These are different connectivity variants. Cellular hardware does not itself include a service plan; check local carrier support and terms before paying for that configuration.
- Compatibility: Apple lists iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26 or later as the requirement for SE 3. The comparison page lists the same requirement for Series 11 and Ultra 3; check the current requirement for the exact model you are considering, since model and software compatibility can change.
- Battery claims: Treat Apple’s Low Power Mode figures as test estimates with model-specific scenarios, not a promise of typical runtime. Your use and connectivity conditions affect battery life.
Are these the latest Apple Watch generations?
On October 4, 2026, Apple’s comparison page identified SE 3, Series 12, and Ultra 4 among its current models. It also retained SE 2, Series 11, and Ultra 3 on the page, so the presence of an older model there does not make it the newest generation. Lineups and availability can change; check Apple’s comparison page for the models currently offered in your market.
