Apple announced Siri AI for Apple TV as a beta in tvOS 27.2, with support for Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later). You do not need to buy the new Apple TV 4K (4th generation) to qualify, but the Home owner must have a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with Siri AI turned on and set to a supported language. Apple’s initial Apple TV rollout is English-only in eight named markets.
What Siri AI adds to Apple TV
Apple describes the feature as a conversational way to find and discover shows. You can ask a broad question, then follow up while watching; Apple says answers can appear in a compact overlay rather than taking over the screen. Its examples include asking which Apple TV shows won Emmy Awards that year, where Pluribus was filmed, and whether a program is appropriate for a 15-year-old.

Apple also illustrates a request to play a show recommended by someone, using personal context available through a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device. Personal-context requests have an additional device requirement; they are not simply a feature of the television box by itself. These examples and capability descriptions come from Apple’s announcement, and the feature is still labeled beta.

Which Apple TV models support it?
Apple says the Siri AI beta is available on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later). The newly announced 4th-generation model is compatible, but it is not the minimum supported generation. Apple’s announcement does not include Apple TV HD in the compatible-model list.
#1 Best Overall
- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
| Apple TV model | Siri AI beta eligibility | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) | Yes, according to Apple | Meets the stated minimum generation; companion-device and language requirements still apply. |
| Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) | Yes, according to Apple | Eligible without upgrading to the newly announced model. |
| Apple TV 4K (4th generation) | Yes, according to Apple | New hardware announced October 13, 2026; it is not required just to access the beta. |
| Apple TV HD | Not listed as eligible | Apple’s announcement specifies Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later). |
Model eligibility is only one part of access. A compatible Apple TV does not remove the Home owner’s companion-device or language requirements.
What you need before enabling Siri AI
- An Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later).
- The Home owner in the Home app must have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software, with Siri AI switched on and set to a supported language.
- For personal-context requests, a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad must also have Siri AI enabled and be set to a supported language.
- The supported language and launch market must match Apple’s current availability. At announcement, Apple TV’s initial Siri AI availability was English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
Apple says some features may not be available in every region or language. Its September 14, 2026 announcement said Siri AI began rolling out in beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish planned for the following month. That earlier language rollout statement does not mean those languages were included in the October 13 Apple TV launch: Apple’s Apple TV announcement lists English in the eight markets above. Check Apple’s current availability information for later changes.

Should you buy the new Apple TV 4K?
If Siri AI is your only reason to upgrade, first check which Apple TV 4K generation you already own: Apple says 2nd-generation and newer models qualify. The 4th generation is a hardware refresh, not a prerequisite for the beta.
Apple announced the Apple TV 4K (4th generation) on October 13, 2026, at a US price of $299. Apple said preorders would begin October 13 and in-store availability would begin Friday, November 13, 2026. These are Apple’s announced US terms; price, dates, and inventory can change.

| Decision factor | What Apple announced | What it means for an upgrade decision |
|---|---|---|
| Siri AI access | Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later) | Buying the 4th generation is unnecessary if your current model is eligible and you meet the companion-device requirements. |
| New processor | A19 chip | A new hardware feature of the 4th-generation model. |
| Performance claims | Up to 50 percent faster CPU and up to 2x faster GPU than the previous generation | These are Apple’s comparisons, not independent benchmark results. |
| Video decoding | Dedicated AV1 decoder in A19 | Another stated hardware addition; it is not a Siri AI eligibility requirement. |
| US price and timing | $299; preorder October 13, 2026; stores November 13, 2026 | Announced US price and dates, subject to change. |
Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Bob Borchers, called the new device “our most immersive home theater experience yet” and said Siri AI makes finding something to watch a full-screen conversational experience. Those are Apple’s descriptions, not independent testing. The announcement provides no independent benchmarks for the CPU or GPU claims.

Apple says the 4th-generation Apple TV can create a four-speaker surround setup using HomePod mini 2, or HomePod (2nd generation) if the front and rear pairs match. The speakers are optional and are not required for Siri AI. Apple also says its new Siri Remote is sold separately and works with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K; it does not unlock the AI feature.

How to decide whether you can use it
- Identify your Apple TV model. Confirm that it is Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later); Apple does not list Apple TV HD as eligible.
- Check the Home owner’s device. The Home owner needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad on the latest software, with Siri AI turned on and a supported language selected.
- Check market and language availability. The October 13 Apple TV announcement names English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Availability may change, and Apple warns that some features vary by region or language.
- Pair an enabled device for personal context. If you want requests that use personal context, make sure the paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad also has Siri AI enabled and a supported language selected.
- Decide on hardware separately. If your existing box meets the model requirement, compare the 4th-generation model’s hardware additions and announced US price against your needs rather than buying it solely for Siri AI.
