Reports say the iPhone Duo has a replaceable cover layer above its folding display, designed to help make the crease less visible. Apple has not said in those reports that replacing the layer removes the underlying fold, and the published price is limited to a reported US AppleCare+ fee of $19.
What can be replaced on the iPhone Duo?
The reports distinguish the flexible folding display from a cover layer sitting above it. Apple vice president of hardware engineering Kate Bergeron described a matte coating that helps minimize the crease’s appearance, plus a top layer that can be peeled off and replaced. That is a claim about the surface layer, not a statement that the display panel itself is replaceable.
Bergeron said in an interview with Angie Tutorials, as quoted by 9to5Mac: “The matte display coating does a really nice job of, I’ll say minimizing the crease. But there’s a cover layer on top, and we’ve done a significant amount of engineering work to help that wear in as long of a manner as we can, and to make sure that you get the most out of that layer’s performance. It’s actually replaceable, which is a really nice thing for the customer, that you can peel off that layer and get a new one.”
MacRumors describes the component as a nano-texture cover layer above the inner display. Bergeron’s comments describe Apple’s aim to minimize visible crease and extend the layer’s useful wear, but give no lifespan or measured durability figure.

Can the iPhone Duo screen crease be fixed?
Replacing the cover layer may address the appearance or wear of that surface layer. The reports do not show that it removes the physical bend in the folding display, prevents a crease from forming again, or fixes display damage. They also provide no controlled comparison or quantified result for crease reduction. Treat “replaceable” as a claim about the layer above the display, not a proven crease-removal repair.

Can you replace the layer yourself?
Bergeron said the layer can be peeled off and replaced, but the reports do not establish an official customer self-replacement procedure or confirm that owners can safely perform it at home. MacRumors notes that self-replacement was unclear and suggests service-provider replacement may be the route; that is not confirmed Apple policy. Check with Apple about the approved service route rather than treating the peel-off description as do-it-yourself instructions.
