Samsung says Galaxy SmartTag3 can be set up in the SmartThings app on compatible iPhones running iOS 17 or later. iPhone owners can use supported SmartThings and Galaxy Find features, but the tag does not work with Apple’s Find My network, and several features—including Compass View and Left Behind alerts—are unavailable on iOS.
What you need to use SmartTag3 with an iPhone
Samsung’s Canada specifications list iOS 17 or later and the SmartThings app as requirements. Samsung also lists Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later as compatible, and cautions that availability can vary by country, region, and device. Check that the app and product are available for your location before buying.
Using SmartTag3 with an iPhone means using Samsung’s SmartThings and Galaxy Find ecosystem. It does not add the tag to Apple’s Find My network.
Which SmartTag3 features work on iOS?
Samsung confirms iPhone compatibility, but its published compatibility information does not describe every iPhone function in detail. It specifically identifies several features that iOS does not support:

#1 Best Overall
- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff
- Water and Dust Resistant: IP67 rating offers protection against dust and water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
- Compatible with Galaxy Devices Only
- Compass View: unavailable on iOS. Samsung describes this direction-and-distance guidance as a feature for supported Galaxy devices.
- Notify When Left Behind: unavailable on iOS. Samsung’s launch materials also call this a Left Behind Alert.
- Use the tag button to find a phone or tablet: unsupported on iOS. Samsung says the button’s Ring Phone function is unavailable there.
- Some location-history tools and Walking in Pet Care mode: currently unavailable on iOS, according to Samsung’s four-pack FAQ.
Samsung’s Canada product page says Compass View uses Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding to provide distance and direction guidance up to 60 meters under supported-device and line-of-sight conditions. That figure is not an iPhone capability or a guaranteed usable range; obstructions and nearby electronics can reduce range and accuracy.
How location updates work when the tag is out of range
SmartTag3 is not a GPS tracker. When the tag is away from your phone, participating Galaxy devices can help update its location through the Galaxy Find Network. Samsung says more than 900 million Galaxy devices worldwide can act as finding nodes, but that network size does not mean a tag will be located continuously or immediately.

An update depends on participating devices being nearby, as well as network conditions, device settings, and regional availability. If no participating device detects the tag, its location may not refresh until one does.
Availability, price, and battery details
Samsung’s 2026 launch announcements give different availability timing by market: initial availability in Korea on October 7, 2026; U.S. availability targeted for early November 2026; and additional markets planned for 2027. These are announced targets, not confirmation of local stock. Samsung’s U.S. announcement lists prices of $29.99 for one tag and $99.99 for a four-pack; those are U.S. announced prices, not universal or independently verified street prices.

Keep the coin-cell battery and detached tracker or accessory parts away from children and pets because they can pose serious ingestion hazards. If attaching the tag to a pet’s collar, secure it and inspect it regularly; Samsung cautions that the tracker is not a substitute for safe supervision.
