Apple removed one iPhone 16 commercial after acknowledging that the “more personal Siri” capabilities shown in it would take substantially longer than expected. The withdrawn spot starred Bella Ramsey and depicted Siri finding information about a person Ramsey had previously met at a restaurant. Apple did not withdraw the iPhone 16, cancel Apple Intelligence, or remove the entire advertising campaign.

Which iPhone 16 advertisement did Apple remove?

The commercial was one of three Apple Intelligence ads released around the iPhone 16 launch in September 2024. In it, actor Bella Ramsey asked Siri to identify someone she had met at a particular restaurant the previous month. The scene implied that Siri could search the owner’s personal history and connect information stored across the iPhone.

After Apple acknowledged the Siri delay on March 7, 2025, the video was made private on YouTube and removed from Apple’s promotional channels, according to contemporaneous reporting by 9to5Mac and MacRumors.

What did the commercial suggest Siri could do?

The “more personal Siri” message went beyond a more natural conversation. The demonstration suggested that Siri could:

That presentation created an expectation that these capabilities were part of the iPhone 16’s Apple Intelligence experience. It did not, by itself, establish that every demonstrated function was guaranteed to be available on launch day. Later legal complaints reproduced the campaign’s “more personal Siri” and “Built for Apple Intelligence” representations; those complaints describe plaintiffs’ allegations, not court findings. See the Feldt complaint and Landsheft complaint.

What Apple actually delayed

On March 7, 2025, Apple said the more personalized Siri capabilities needed more time than expected. The delayed work covered the parts of Siri associated with personal context, awareness of what is on screen, cross-app understanding and action-taking, and richer language comprehension. Reporting indicated that the functions would extend beyond the originally expected iOS 18 schedule, but Apple did not provide a firm release date in the cited statements.

This was a delay of advanced Siri functions, not a cancellation announcement and not a declaration that Apple Intelligence as a whole had failed.

Apple’s advertising therefore preceded the complete rollout of the capabilities associated with the campaign. Reporting on the rollout and the early advertising is available from 9to5Mac.

Why removing the ad mattered

The timing connected the withdrawal to a specific marketing problem: Apple had shown a polished example of a Siri experience that it later acknowledged was not ready. Removing that commercial made the company’s remaining advertising more consistent with functions it could support.

The connection is an inference from the timing and the ad’s content, not an explicit Apple statement that the commercial was misleading. Critics and plaintiffs argued that the launch campaign made the iPhone 16’s AI capabilities appear more complete or immediately available than they were. The appropriate distinction is between what the ad appeared to promise, what Apple later delayed, and what software eventually shipped.

Did Apple pull the entire iPhone 16 campaign?

No. The Ramsey commercial was one of three related spots. Reporting said Apple left the other two available, including ads focused on email summarization and the creation of custom photo-memory videos. Claims that Apple removed all iPhone 16 advertising or abandoned Apple Intelligence therefore overstate what happened.

Timeline of the dispute

Date What happened
June 10, 2024 Apple introduced Apple Intelligence and previewed more capable Siri functions at WWDC.
September 2024 Apple released the Bella Ramsey commercial and promoted the iPhone 16 around Apple Intelligence.
September 20, 2024 The iPhone 16 became available, according to launch chronology described in a proposed complaint.
October 28, 2024 Reporting noted that Apple Intelligence advertising appeared before all promoted capabilities had formally launched.
March 7, 2025 Apple acknowledged that the personalized Siri capabilities would take longer than expected; reporting linked the announcement to the ad’s removal.
March 10, 2025 MacRumors reported that the “More Personal Siri” video had been removed from YouTube.
March 2025 onward Proposed lawsuits alleged that Apple’s Apple Intelligence marketing was false or misleading.
2026 Associated Press reporting described a later reported $250 million settlement involving claims about advertised Siri-related AI capabilities. The report concerns a subsequent legal development, not the March 2025 withdrawal itself.

Legal and advertising fallout

Several proposed class actions cited the Bella Ramsey commercial and other Apple Intelligence materials. Plaintiffs argued that the campaign created unreasonable expectations about what iPhone 16 owners would receive. The Varbanovski complaint and the complaints collected by Truth in Advertising are allegations by litigants, not rulings that Apple violated advertising law.

Axios reported on the litigation in March 2025. In a later development, the Associated Press reported a $250 million settlement. Readers should check the court’s final approval, eligibility rules, deadlines and payment terms rather than assuming that every iPhone 16 owner qualifies.

What this means for iPhone 16 owners and buyers

  • The iPhone 16 hardware was not recalled or withdrawn.
  • Some Apple Intelligence features became available through software updates.
  • The personal-context Siri experience shown in the commercial was not available as depicted when the phone launched.
  • Availability can differ by software version, language, region and compatible device.
  • A purchase decision should be based on the phone’s hardware and currently supported software, not on the unreleased Siri demonstration from the 2024 ad.

Bottom line

Apple pulled one vulnerable iPhone 16 commercial—not the whole campaign—after delaying the advanced Siri features it showcased. Apple Intelligence continued to roll out in stages, while the ad’s removal became a focal point in criticism and later lawsuits over whether launch marketing got ahead of product availability.
