Apple doesn’t provide a system-wide slider for Apple Pencil drawing-pressure sensitivity. In supported drawing tools, pressing harder can darken a stroke, while tilting can change shading or line thickness. If you mean gesture sensitivity instead, open Settings > Accessibility > Apple Pencil to adjust supported squeeze and double-tap options.
Can you adjust Apple Pencil drawing-pressure sensitivity?
Not with a universal iPad setting, according to Apple’s drawing guidance. In a supported tool, press harder to darken a line; tilt the Pencil to shade or vary line thickness, depending on the tool.

For a brush that feels too light, too heavy, or otherwise responds unexpectedly, look in the drawing app for its own brush or stylus controls. Such options are app-specific, and Apple’s general guide does not document a system-wide pressure curve control.

How to adjust Apple Pencil gesture settings
To change the effort needed for a supported squeeze gesture or to modify double tap, use the iPad’s accessibility settings:

- Open Settings > Accessibility > Apple Pencil.
- If you have Apple Pencil Pro on a supported iPad, adjust the squeeze firmness slider. Turn on Extended Range to see additional firmness options.
- Turn double tap on or off. If the gesture is hard to trigger at its current speed, choose a slower double-tap duration.
Apple documents squeeze firmness for Apple Pencil Pro on supported iPads. Double tap is available on supported iPads with Apple Pencil (2nd generation) and Apple Pencil Pro. See Apple’s accessibility settings guide for the available controls.
Why the Apple Pencil settings may be missing
Gesture controls depend on both the Pencil and iPad model. Apple lists Apple Pencil (1st generation), Apple Pencil (2nd generation), Apple Pencil (USB-C), and Apple Pencil Pro separately, and not every Pencil works with every iPad. Check the exact combination in Apple’s Apple Pencil compatibility guide before troubleshooting or choosing a replacement.

If your model supports a gesture but its setting still doesn’t appear, confirm that you’re checking the Apple Pencil section under Accessibility and that the Pencil is paired with the iPad. The available options can also vary by software version.

Which adjustment should you use?
- Strokes are too light or narrow: Try firmer pressure or a different brush response in the app. Tilt may affect shading or thickness, depending on the tool.
- Squeeze is uncomfortable or hard to trigger: Adjust squeeze firmness in Accessibility settings if you have Apple Pencil Pro and a supported iPad.
- Double tap is unreliable: Check that the feature is enabled and try a slower duration, if available for your model.
- A setting is absent: Verify compatibility for the exact iPad and Pencil models; gesture support is not the same across the lineup.
