The biggest difference is how these phones fold: Apple’s iPhone Duo opens sideways like a book, while Motorola’s razr ultra (2026) flips vertically like a clamshell. That gives the Duo a larger inner display for expanded-screen use and the Razr a compact flip-phone format. As of October 7, 2026, the Duo had not reached its announced retail availability, so this is a comparison of announced specifications and pricing—not a hands-on verdict.

How the fold changes everyday use
iPhone Duo: a book-style screen for more room when open
The Duo’s 7.6-inch inner display is the larger of the two listed, and its sideways-opening design is intended to provide a broader surface when unfolded. That layout is the more natural fit for reading, viewing media, or working with apps that can make use of an expanded screen. Apple says the two displays share an aspect ratio, but the practical benefit depends on how apps adapt to the inner display.

Razr Ultra: a flip phone that gets smaller when folded
The Razr folds vertically, so its defining convenience is a compact folded form rather than a book-like inner screen. Its 4.0-inch external display is smaller than the Duo’s 5.4-inch cover display on the stated diagonal measurements. Those diagonals do not establish which cover screen is easier to use: shape, software, brightness, and app behavior all matter.

Apple lists Super Retina XDR panels, ProMotion, Always On, and peak outdoor brightness up to 3000 nits for the Duo. It also describes a nano-texture finish intended to minimize glare and crease visibility. These are Apple’s announced specifications and claims, not independent findings about visibility or the crease in ordinary use.
#1 Best Overall
- Universal unlocked: Compatible with all major U.S. carriers, including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and other prepaid carriers.
Motorola lists HDR10+ support and refresh rates up to 165Hz for both Razr displays. A higher stated maximum refresh rate does not by itself establish that motion looks better in every app or that one phone has a superior display overall. The cited specifications also do not provide a matched measurement of brightness or crease visibility.
Software and multitasking
The larger inner screen makes the Duo’s book format the more obvious choice on paper for tasks that benefit from room to spread out. But the available specifications do not establish how well particular apps use that space, how multitasking works, or which phone offers the smoother fold-open transition. Those questions require software and retail-device evaluation, not screen diagonals alone.

Apple says USB-C Apple Pencil support will arrive later in 2026. That is an announced future feature, not a reason to assume the accessory is available at launch or that every buyer will need it. The sources cited here do not establish a comparable stylus feature for the Razr.

Apple’s iPhone Duo product page lists a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera and a 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera with up to 8x optical-quality zoom. Those figures describe Apple’s stated camera hardware and zoom terminology; they do not prove how photos or video compare with the Motorola in real use. The cited Motorola information does not establish camera specifications that support a like-for-like hardware table, and neither source provides matched independent image-quality tests.

Battery and charging
Motorola specifies a 5000mAh silicon-carbon battery and advertises up to 36 hours based on its mixed-use profile under optimal network conditions. It also says users can get up to 12 hours of battery life in about eight minutes under specified conditions. These are Motorola estimates, not independent measurements comparable with an iPhone Duo retail test. Motorola lists wired TurboPower charging up to 68W and wireless charging up to 30W; the 68W charger is sold separately.
Apple provides its own battery-testing methodology in the Duo announcement, but the cited material does not establish a matched independent endurance result for both phones. Battery capacity, a maker’s usage estimate, and charging wattage each describe different things; none alone identifies which phone lasts longer in a buyer’s routine.

Price, storage, and availability
The reported US starting price for the iPhone Duo is $1,999, according to the Associated Press. Apple’s announcement says preorders begin October 16, 2026, with availability starting October 23. The Duo was therefore not yet available at the October 7, 2026 comparison date. Check Apple’s local store for final regional pricing and configuration details.
Motorola’s US store displayed $1,499.99 for an unlocked 512GB razr ultra (2026) when checked October 7, 2026. That is a specific listing, not a universal or permanent price: discounts, offers, storage configurations, and regional terms can differ. These figures are not a fully matched price comparison because one is a reported starting price and the other is a store price for a named configuration.

Durability, repair, and ownership questions still open
The cited sources do not establish comparative hinge reliability, long-term durability, repair costs, warranty coverage, or independently measured crease visibility. Motorola’s US product page offers optional Moto Care accidental-damage coverage, with eligibility and terms depending on market and purchase. That should not be treated as equivalent to a warranty or as proof of the phone’s durability. Motorola also says the Razr includes a customized screen protector; the available information does not support treating a replacement protector as a required purchase.
Which foldable makes more sense for you?
- Consider the iPhone Duo if you want a book-style foldable with the larger stated inner display, prefer Apple’s announced display features, or expect to use USB-C Apple Pencil support once it arrives later in 2026.
- Consider the Razr Ultra if you specifically want a vertically folding clamshell, value its stated 4.0-inch external display, or want the 512GB US-store configuration listed at the cited price when checked.
- Wait for retail comparisons if your decision depends on battery endurance, camera results, app behavior, comfort, crease visibility, or hinge life. The cited sources do not establish those head-to-head outcomes.
Availability, prices, and the announced specifications above are limited to the named sources and markets. A complete real-world verdict awaits comparable testing of retail iPhone Duo units alongside the Razr Ultra.
