For an Apple-centered household, HomeView is the more personal choice; for buyers who want a device now, a choice of screen sizes, or a lower announced price, Echo Show is the safer fit. Apple announced HomeView on October 13, 2026, but availability is scheduled for November 13 in its first markets. Amazon’s Echo Show line is already a multi-model family, ranging from the compact Show 5 to the large Show 21.
HomeView’s announced U.S. price is $299 for either the tabletop or wall-mounted model. Amazon announced $179.99 for Echo Show 8 and $219.99 for Echo Show 11. Those are announcement prices, not verified live offers, so check current local listings before ordering.

The short answer
Choose Apple HomeView if your household already uses iPhone, iPad, Apple Home, FaceTime and Apple services, and you want a shared screen that personalizes itself for as many as six people. Choose an Echo Show if you prefer Alexa, need a display before HomeView’s November 13 release, want more screen-size options, or want to spend less on a countertop model.
These products are not one-to-one hardware matches. HomeView is a single 7-inch display concept with tabletop and wall-mounted versions. “Echo Show” describes several devices: Show 5, 8, 11, 15 and 21. The Show 8 and 11 are the closest countertop comparisons; Show 15 and 21 are much larger household dashboards that can be wall-mounted.

No independent hands-on test or head-to-head benchmark was available for HomeView before its announced release. The comparison below therefore separates published specifications and capabilities from performance claims that still need real-world testing.
How the two ecosystems differ
Apple HomeView: designed around personal context
HomeView combines Apple Home control, Siri AI, FaceTime, photos, music and camera feeds on a 7-inch Liquid Retina display. Apple says face recognition can present personalized screens for up to six people. A recognized person can see their own content in supported apps, while the device remains usable as a shared household control panel.
That personalization depends on Apple hardware. Setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. Personal-context Siri requests additionally require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, Siri AI turned on and a supported language. Apple lists Siri AI on HomeView in English for the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom; Canadian French is planned as a free update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsApple says Siri AI is beta software in HomeView software version 27.2. Some server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily usage limits, with expanded access planned for a future fee. Those conditions make HomeView most compelling when everyone in the home already meets Apple’s device and language requirements.
Echo Show: Alexa across several sizes
Amazon’s device catalogue lists Echo Show 5, 8, 11, 15 and 21. Echo Show devices provide visual Alexa responses, video, security-camera feeds and photos. Amazon also lists Echo Hub separately as a wall-mounted touch controller for an Alexa smart home; it is not an Echo Show model.
The announced Show 8 and Show 11 include Alexa+ experiences, household calendars, entertainment controls and 13-megapixel cameras. They also include built-in smart-home hubs supporting Zigbee, Matter and Thread. Amazon’s larger Show 15 and Show 21 are positioned as household organization and entertainment displays, with Fire TV apps, family-calendar widgets and hubs supporting Matter, Thread, Zigbee and Wi-Fi.
Amazon warns that features can vary by device and location. Ring capabilities may require additional subscriptions, so a feature shown in an announcement should not be treated as universally included.

Which screen size makes sense?
HomeView’s 7-inch format
A 7-inch screen suits a kitchen counter, bedside table or hallway shelf where you want glanceable information without dedicating a large section of wall. The tabletop model uses a tilt hinge between the display and speaker base. Apple also offers a distinct wall-mounted version rather than asking buyers to adapt the tabletop hardware.
HomeView is therefore a focused personal-and-home-control screen, not a replacement for a television-sized family dashboard. Apple describes camera feeds, photos, music, FaceTime and home controls, but it has not published a larger HomeView size in the cited announcement.
Echo Show 8 and 11 for counters
The Show 8 and Show 11 are the practical alternatives when you want an Alexa display on a counter or desk. Amazon’s announced prices place the Show 8 below both HomeView and Show 11, while the Show 11 provides a larger canvas for calendars, widgets and video. Select between them based on the physical space and viewing distance rather than treating “Echo Show” as a single specification.

The Show 15 and Show 21 target household organization: calendars, widgets, entertainment and camera views that can be read from across a room. Amazon describes both as wall-mountable and includes Fire TV apps. They are the better conceptual match for a family command center, but they are not direct size competitors to HomeView’s 7-inch panel.
Price, timing and what the announcements do—and do not—establish
HomeView cost and release
Apple announced a U.S. price of $299 for both HomeView variants. The company says availability begins November 13 in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Singapore pre-orders begin October 15, while South African sales are through authorized resellers. HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union at launch because Apple says Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS there.
Optional power and mounting accessories have separate announced U.S. starting prices: USB-C Wall Connector from $59.95, AC Wired from $79.95 and PoE Wired from $129.95, with availability expected in early 2027. These are Apple’s announced figures, not independently verified listings.

Echo Show pricing and timing
Amazon announced $179.99 for Echo Show 8 and $219.99 for Echo Show 11, with availability announced for November 12. The cited large-screen announcement does not establish current prices for Show 15 or Show 21. Amazon’s catalogue confirms those models exist, but local stock, promotions and newer revisions can change the buying decision.

Smart-home control and compatibility
What HomeView controls
Apple describes HomeView controlling Apple Home and Matter accessories, including lights, thermostats, locks and blinds. It can show live feeds from cameras, with up to nine camera feeds described in the announcement. Actual operation depends on the accessory being compatible with Apple Home or Matter and configured in the household’s Apple account.
Matter is a compatibility standard, not a promise that every accessory exposes identical controls in every ecosystem. Check the accessory’s Apple Home support and required hub or subscription before buying it for HomeView.
What Echo Show controls
Amazon says the announced Show 8 and Show 11 include Zigbee, Matter and Thread hubs. The Show 15 and 21 announcement lists Matter, Thread, Zigbee and Wi-Fi support and positions these models as smart-home controllers. Device-specific capabilities still vary: a Matter light, a Zigbee sensor and a Ring camera can have different setup steps and subscription requirements.

Calls, cameras and personalized content
HomeView’s Apple approach
HomeView supports FaceTime and can surface personalized content after recognizing a person. Apple says personal content in apps such as Messages and Calendar appears after the person is recognized, their paired iPhone or iPad is present and that device was recently unlocked. This is a convenience feature with explicit security conditions, not an indication that every household member’s content is always visible.

Apple says the A18 chip and Secure Exclaves process camera and microphone data separately. Siri requests may be handled on-device or through Private Cloud Compute. These are Apple’s privacy descriptions; they are not an independent privacy audit.
Echo Show’s camera and Alexa features
Amazon’s announced Show 8 and Show 11 have 13-megapixel cameras and Alexa+ features for calendars, task organization, Ring summaries and a shopping widget. Amazon also describes video calling, visual Alexa responses, security-camera feeds and photos across the Echo Show family.
Ring summaries and other camera functions can require additional subscriptions. Confirm the requirements for your country and account before assuming a camera workflow is included with the hardware.
Installation and placement checklist
Before choosing HomeView
- Confirm that at least one household member has a compatible iPhone or iPad with the latest software for setup and multiuser support.
- For personal-context Siri, confirm an Apple Intelligence-enabled paired device, Siri AI enabled and a supported language.
- Choose tabletop or wall-mounted hardware before ordering; Apple treats them as separate models.
- For a wall installation, check power routing and the compatibility of the Schneider Home mount you intend to use.
- Verify that HomeView is sold in your country and that the November 13 release schedule applies to your market.
Before choosing Echo Show
- Measure the intended location and select among Show 5, 8, 11, 15 or 21 rather than buying on the Echo Show name alone.
- For a wall dashboard, compare the Show 15 and 21 mounting location with the viewing distance and power outlet position.
- Inventory existing Zigbee, Matter, Thread, Wi-Fi and Ring devices.
- Check whether a desired Ring or entertainment feature requires a subscription or has a country limitation.
- Confirm the current price, stock and model revision on a local listing; the announcement prices are historical launch figures.
Privacy, accounts and household sharing
HomeView’s shared-device model is strongest when every user is comfortable with Apple account linking and the required iPhone or iPad presence. Apple says recognition can unlock personalized screens and that recently unlocked paired devices are required before sensitive personal content is surfaced. Siri AI processing can occur on-device or through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, according to Apple.
Echo Show’s account model is centered on Alexa and Amazon services. Amazon’s announcements include a general privacy statement, but they do not provide an equivalent independent assessment of HomeView and Echo Show. Treat both vendors’ privacy descriptions as product claims and review each device’s camera, microphone and account settings during setup.
What Amazon’s usage figures mean
Amazon reported that customers had created and managed more than one billion calendar events with Alexa. In the same November 20, 2024 announcement, Amazon said Echo Show 15 customers watched seven times more video per month than customers on any other Echo Show device. These are company-reported figures, not independent measurements and not evidence that every household will have the same experience.

Decision guide by household
Pick HomeView when
- Most household members already use iPhone, iPad and Apple Home.
- FaceTime, Apple photos, music and personalized Siri context matter more than having multiple screen sizes.
- You want a 7-inch display on a counter or a purpose-built wall model.
- You can wait for the announced November 13 launch and live in an initial supported market.
Pick Echo Show 8 when
- You want the lower announced countertop price of $179.99.
- You prefer Alexa and need Zigbee, Matter and Thread hub support in a compact display.
- Your available space suits a mid-size screen and you do not need Apple-specific personalization.
Pick Echo Show 11 when
- You want a larger countertop display than Show 8 while staying below HomeView’s announced price.
- Household calendars, Alexa+ organization and a 13-megapixel camera are priorities.
- You want the announced Alexa smart-display feature set without moving to a wall-sized dashboard.
Pick Echo Show 15 or 21 when
- Your priority is a wall-mounted family calendar, widgets, camera views and Fire TV apps.
- You need a display readable from farther away than a 7-, 8- or 11-inch panel allows.
- You accept that current price, inventory and model revisions must be checked separately.
Common pitfalls
Assuming HomeView works without an Apple device
Apple requires a compatible iPhone or iPad with the latest software for setup and multiuser support. Buying HomeView for a household with no such device conflicts with the announced requirements.

Comparing the wrong Echo Show
Show 8, 11, 15 and 21 serve different rooms and distances. Compare HomeView with Show 8 or 11 for countertop use, and treat Show 15 or 21 as large wall-display alternatives.
Treating launch prices as current prices
Both companies’ figures are announcement prices. Promotions, local taxes, regional pricing and later hardware revisions can change the amount you pay.
Assuming every advertised feature is universal
Amazon explicitly notes device and location limits and additional Ring subscriptions. Apple limits HomeView availability and Siri AI languages by market. Check the support page and local store for your exact country.

Verdict
HomeView fits an Apple household that values personal profiles, FaceTime and Apple Home control and is willing to meet Apple’s device, language and release requirements. Echo Show fits more homes today because Amazon offers several sizes, lower announced prices for Show 8 and 11, and large wall-display options. Buy by ecosystem and room first, then verify the exact model, country availability, subscriptions and live price.
