The instructions below identify exactly which controls apply to HomePod, HomeKit Secure Video cameras, or Home data, so they are not mistaken for settings on an unverified screen product.
What Apple’s documented home privacy controls cover
Apple’s available guidance covers HomePod and HomePod mini speakers, the Home app, HomeKit Secure Video cameras, and HomeKit or Matter accessories. It does not establish a specific Apple smart display with an integrated camera. A HomePod is a speaker, not a display; its Siri settings should not be treated as controls for a separate screen or built-in camera.

Apple describes HomeKit data as encrypted and says private home data is protected and synced without exposing it to Apple. Its HomeKit communication security guide, published May 7, 2024, describes authenticated, end-to-end encrypted commands from a user’s device to a home hub, then to an accessory using HomeKit Accessory Protocol or Matter. Apple also says Siri receives only minimal, anonymous home configuration information, such as room, accessory, and scene names needed to understand commands. These are Apple’s descriptions of its architecture and policies, not a guarantee about the separate cloud, apps, or account practices of every accessory maker.
Turn off HomePod voice activation
Apple says HomePod does not send what you say to Apple servers until it recognises “Hey Siri” or “Siri,” or you touch and hold the top of HomePod to make a request. A light on top indicates recognition of a Siri phrase, and Apple says server communications are encrypted and use anonymous identifiers. This describes Apple’s stated behavior; it does not mean accidental activations can never happen.

To stop voice-triggered Siri on HomePod, say, “Hey Siri, stop listening.” With “Siri” or “Hey Siri” turned off, Apple documents touching and holding the top of HomePod as the manual way to activate Siri. These instructions apply to HomePod, not to an unspecified smart display. See Apple Support’s HomePod privacy and security guide, which Apple says applies to HomePod software version 27 or later.
Manage HomePod location and Siri history
Disable Location Services for HomePod
HomePod can use location to answer local requests, such as traffic, weather, and nearby businesses. Apple’s documented control applies to every HomePod in that Home.

Delete Siri history for a HomePod
Apple says a history of Siri interactions is stored on HomePod and may be used to personalise Siri. To delete history associated with a particular HomePod:

This removes history currently associated with the selected HomePod. Apple’s instructions do not say that it deletes unrelated account records or Siri interactions from other devices.

Control HomeKit Secure Video summaries and camera data
HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) settings apply to compatible cameras connected to the Home app, not to a confirmed camera built into an Apple display. Apple’s Home app guidance, published September 16, 2026, says eligible iCloud+ users can turn video summaries on or off for all HKSV cameras in Home Settings or for an individual camera in that camera’s settings.
Apple says the Home app stores all camera recordings with end-to-end encryption. Its described summary process has home devices detect activity—such as people, pets, or packages—and send relevant footage to Private Cloud Compute (PCC) for captioning. Apple says PCC returns captions and permanently deletes the data. Apple also says cameras that do not use video summaries analyse content on-device. These statements describe Apple’s service architecture.

- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
Turning summaries off is not the same as turning off a camera or stopping its recording: Apple’s cited guidance describes a summary control, not a recording-disable control.

Apple says simple Apple Intelligence requests in the Home app are processed on-device. Some complex requests may use PCC. Apple says requests sent to PCC are not stored or accessible to Apple; for video summaries, it describes footage being processed for captions and then permanently deleted.

Homeowners can create an Apple Intelligence Report to log requests sent to PCC, change how long the Home app keeps PCC requests, or turn reports off. These options provide visibility and control over PCC request reporting or retention; they are distinct from controls for a HomePod’s microphone activation, an HKSV camera’s summaries, or whether a camera records. See Apple Support’s Turn Apple Intelligence off or on for the Home app for Apple’s current instructions and eligibility details.

Apple’s Home privacy features page also describes Home data encryption, HomeKit Secure Video processing, app restrictions for HomeKit or Matter, and Matter pairing prompts. Those platform protections do not verify product-specific settings for an unspecified display. HomePod mini can serve as a home hub for remote control of HomeKit and Matter accessories, but it remains a speaker rather than a smart display; see Apple’s HomePod mini product page.
