In the cited 2025 phone tests, the iPhone 17 with A19 scored higher than the iPhone 15 with A16 Bionic in CPU and graphics benchmarks, while the video-export test showed only a two-second gap. That points to a substantial advantage in some workloads, not a universal speed multiplier. The figures below are results from complete phones, not isolated chip tests.
Which iPhones are being compared?
The comparison uses the Geekbench iPhone device list to identify the tested phones: iPhone 17 is listed with A19, and iPhone 15 with A16 Bionic. Geekbench also lists iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with A16 Bionic, so the chip is not exclusive to the iPhone 15.

Apple’s iPhone comparison page for Ukraine includes models with both A19 and A16 Bionic. The available page information does not establish a complete, directly comparable specification sheet for CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, memory, manufacturing process, or power. A detailed chip-specification table would therefore go beyond what these sources establish.

| Phone and chip | Geekbench 6 single-core | Geekbench 6 multi-core |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 with A19 | 3,701 | 9,460 |
| iPhone 15 with A16 Bionic | 2,518 | 6,179 |
In that review, the iPhone 17 posted higher results in both CPU tests. Single-core and multi-core scores describe different workloads; neither number guarantees the same improvement in every app or everyday task.
A separate view comes from Geekbench’s current iPhone browser aggregate, which uses user-submitted Geekbench 6 results. At the time accessed in 2026, it listed the iPhone 17/A19 at 2,995 single-core and 8,280 multi-core, and the iPhone 15/A16 at 2,252 and 5,967. These are dynamic aggregates, not a dated controlled review sample. Their values differ from Tom’s Guide’s, so the two sets should not be treated as results from one test session or method.

What do the graphics and video tests show?
Graphics: Solar Bay Unlimited
In Tom’s Guide’s 2025 comparison, the iPhone 17/A19 recorded 39 fps and the iPhone 15/A16 Bionic 13.8 fps in Solar Bay Unlimited. This is a graphics benchmark result from those phones; it does not establish the frame rate a particular game will deliver across settings, temperatures, or play sessions.
Video export: Adobe Premiere Rush
In the same review, exporting video in Adobe Premiere Rush took 22 seconds on the iPhone 17/A19 and 24 seconds on the iPhone 15/A16 Bionic. The small gap in this particular task contrasts with the larger graphics-benchmark difference, illustrating why a synthetic result should not stand in for every real-world workload.

Is A19 worth upgrading from A16?
The cited results favor the iPhone 17/A19, particularly in CPU scores and the tested graphics benchmark. They do not, by themselves, show that every iPhone 15 owner needs to upgrade: the Premiere Rush export differed by only two seconds in the reported test, and the evidence here does not measure a person’s app mix, battery condition, or overall device needs.
- If your priority is performance in workloads like the cited CPU and graphics tests, the iPhone 17 delivered the stronger results in Tom’s Guide’s comparison.
- If your current iPhone 15 handles your apps and tasks well, these benchmarks alone do not establish a compelling need to replace it.
- Choose based on the phone as a whole as well as its chip; these figures compare iPhone models and cannot isolate the contribution of the processor from the rest of the device.
What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The strongest supported conclusion is that the tested iPhone 17 outperformed the tested iPhone 15 in the reported Geekbench 6 and Solar Bay Unlimited results, while their Premiere Rush export times were close. Geekbench’s browser adds a broader but user-submitted snapshot whose scores differ from the review results.
