If images are missing from an Apify screenshot, first confirm that the run uses Apify’s official apify/screenshot-url Website Screenshot Generator. Then check whether the images appear in a normal browser at the same viewport and try its navigation wait and post-load delay settings. These can help with late-rendered content, but they do not guarantee that every image has loaded.
Confirm which Apify Actor is running
Apify Store includes similarly named screenshot Actors with different inputs. The official Website Screenshot Generator is apify/screenshot-url, maintained by Apify. Check the Actor ID on the run page before applying settings from any guide; an input such as waitForImages may belong to a different Actor.

The official Actor’s listing says it creates a screenshot of a specified URL and stores it in a key-value store. Its documented options include navigation wait conditions, a post-load delay, viewport dimensions, and JPEG or PNG output. The schema reviewed does not document a dedicated image-wait or scroll-to-bottom input. See the official Actor listing and input schema.

Check the page in a browser
Open the exact URL in a regular browser and compare it at approximately the same viewport width and height as the Actor run. Wait for the page to settle and scroll to the area where images are missing. If the images are also absent there, investigate the target page, image URLs, access requirements, or the page’s own behavior; changing screenshot settings may not address the underlying problem.

Consider when and where images appear
- Images appear after a pause: Page scripts may render them after the initial navigation event. Test a post-load delay.
- Images appear only after scrolling: The page may defer loading below-the-fold images until they approach the viewport. The official Actor schema reviewed does not document an auto-scroll or image-wait setting.
- Images are missing only at a different viewport: Responsive layouts can change which images or page elements appear. Match the browser viewport to the Actor’s configured dimensions.
- The run times out or navigation fails: Navigation timeout and retry settings may help with slow or intermittent page loads, but they do not show whether individual image requests succeeded.
Adjust the official Actor’s timing settings
Choose a navigation wait condition
The official Actor’s waitUntil input defaults to load and also offers domcontentloaded, networkidle0, and networkidle2. This controls when navigation is considered successful; it is not documented as a guarantee that every image is visible or loaded. Test one choice at a time and compare the output. Network-idle conditions may be unsuitable on pages with persistent network activity, so they are not a universal fix.
Add a post-load delay
delaySecs adds time after loading. Its documented default is 0 seconds and its range is 0–120 seconds. Try a modest delay if the page shows its images after scripts finish, then compare captures. A longer delay is an experiment, not a promise that lazy-loaded or failed images will appear.

Use timeout and retries for navigation problems
pageLoadTimeoutSecs accepts 1–180 seconds and defaults to 60. pageMaxRetryCount accepts 0–10 and defaults to 2. Increasing these may help when navigation itself is slow or intermittently fails. The schema describes retries for navigation errors or timeouts, not retries for individual image requests.

The Actor exposes viewport width and height and supports JPEG or PNG output. Make the viewport comparable to the browser check: responsive pages can behave differently at different sizes. If the image is present in the page but not in the resulting capture, changing format alone does not establish why; inspect the run and test timing or page extent separately.

Check the run result and logs
- Open the specific Actor run and verify its Actor ID is
apify/screenshot-url. - Review the run status and logs for navigation errors, timeouts, or other reported failures.
- Compare the capture with the target page in a browser using a similar viewport and the same page area.
- Change only one timing setting per test—
waitUntilordelaySecs—so you can tell which change affected the result. - If only images below the initial viewport are missing, use a screenshot Actor whose schema explicitly documents scrolling or image waiting, rather than assuming this Actor provides those controls.
Do not confuse a text crawler with a screenshot Actor
Apify’s Website Content Crawler is intended for text extraction, not visual page capture. In an Apify issue response, representative Jindřich Bär explained that the crawler loads pages “without CSS styles, images, etc.” and said the Website Screenshot Generator is a better fit for screenshots. If you are running the crawler, switching to a screenshot-focused Actor is more relevant than changing its image timing. Read the cited issue response.
What other Actor schemas document
Some similarly named community Actors document controls that are not listed in the official apify/screenshot-url schema reviewed here. For example, i-scraper/website-screenshot describes waitForImages, which auto-scrolls full pages and waits briefly for visible images; its schema also includes selector waits, delay, and resource blocking. jancurn/screenshot-taker documents navigation wait choices and an optional delay. These are separate Actors, so verify the ID and its current schema before using their input names.

Does `networkidle0` guarantee all images have loaded?
No. It is a navigation wait condition, not a documented guarantee that every image is visible or loaded.

Can I use `waitForImages` with Apify’s official Website Screenshot Generator?
The official `apify/screenshot-url` schema reviewed does not document that input. It appears in the schema for the separate community Actor `i-scraper/website-screenshot`.
Will raising the retry count retry failed image requests?
The official schema describes retries for navigation errors or timeouts; it does not say that retries target individual image requests.
