The Apex Legends “Unsupported CPU” or “CPU does not have SSSE 3” error usually means the processor does not support the SSSE3 instruction set the game requires. EA has said that a CPU without SSSE3 cannot run Apex Legends. Reinstalling the game or lowering graphics settings cannot add a missing CPU feature.
What does the Apex Legends SSSE3 error mean?
SSSE3 is a set of processor instructions. EA clarified that the requirement is SSSE3—with three S characters—not SSE3. Support for SSE3 alone does not establish support for SSSE3.

In a 2019 EA Answers HQ thread, EA community admin EA_David wrote: “If you have a CPU without SSSE3 unfortunately the game won’t run on that system.” He also specifically called out confusion over the third S. This is EA’s historical clarification about the requirement; it does not prove that every error with similar wording has the same cause.

- Read the exact message. Note whether it says SSSE3, SSE3, POPCNT, or something else. These labels are not interchangeable, and EA’s clarification applies to SSSE3.
- Identify the exact processor model. Use your operating system’s system-information screen or a reputable CPU identification utility, then check the processor manufacturer’s specifications for SSSE3 support. If you are running the game in a virtual machine, the virtual CPU must expose the feature; the available EA statements do not establish virtualization as the cause of a particular error.
- Compare the whole PC with EA’s current requirements. A supported instruction set is not a substitute for the required operating system, memory, graphics hardware, and disk space.
Electronic Arts’ current published PC minimum requirements, accessed in 2026, list Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i3-6300 at 3.8 GHz or AMD FX-4350 at 4.2 GHz, 6 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 950 or AMD Radeon HD 7790 with Feature Level 12_0, and 75 GB of free space. What should I do if my CPU lacks SSSE3?
If the processor’s specifications confirm it does not support SSSE3, software troubleshooting cannot supply the missing hardware instruction. Windows updates, reinstalling the game, and graphics-setting changes do not change a CPU’s instruction-set capabilities. A compatible CPU upgrade—or a replacement motherboard and platform—may be necessary.
Before buying anything, check the exact motherboard model, its supported-CPU list, socket, chipset, and required BIOS version. Also account for power, cooling, and the rest of the PC’s ability to meet Apex Legends’ requirements. EA’s guidance does not provide compatibility advice for individual computers, and a processor named on EA’s minimum-requirements page is not guaranteed to fit your motherboard.

What if my CPU supports SSSE3 but the error still appears?
Keep the full error text and the exact CPU model, then contact EA support. The cited EA guidance confirms the hardware requirement but does not establish a universal software workaround for a system whose processor supports SSSE3. Do not rely on unofficial executable patches or bypasses to resolve a compatibility check.
How is this different from other Apex Legends errors?
An SSSE3 warning points to a processor instruction-set check. Errors about DirectX, graphics hardware, anti-cheat, or damaged game files are separate problems and need diagnosis on their own; EA’s SSSE3 clarification does not explain those messages.
