AnyPS5 is a reported early-stage project that rewrites a PS5 game executable for Windows or Linux and supplies replacement versions of the system libraries the game expects. That makes it different from a conventional emulator—but it does not mean every PS5 game runs on a PC, and there is no evidence that AnyPS5 changed Sony’s digital storefront, licensing rules, or console strategy.
What AnyPS5 does—and what it does not
AnyPS5 is described as a relinker: it changes a game executable into a Windows or Linux binary and reimplements system-library functions that the game expects from the PS5 environment. In the project’s reported design, shaders are also recompiled for Vulkan. These are descriptions of the technical approach, not independent test results across a range of games. Project documentation should be checked for current availability and status before relying on it.

Calling AnyPS5 a “PS5 emulator” may match what many people are searching for, but it can mislead about how it works. A conventional emulator runs the original software inside a model of another system. AnyPS5 is instead described as rewriting the executable and providing replacement libraries. Both approaches seek to make software work in a different environment, but they translate at different points and have different compatibility requirements.
Why relinking does not mean every game will work
A PS5 game’s CPU instructions use x86-64, but the game also depends on operating-system calls, libraries, and graphics behavior expected from the console. A replacement environment must support the particular functions and graphics features the game uses. Implementing a large share of declared system functions is therefore not the same as demonstrating that the same share of games works.

An unofficial AnyPS5 progress tracker reported 2,578 of 3,044 declared functions implemented, or 84.69%, in data synchronized on October 9, 2026. The tracker explicitly warns that this is not a game-compatibility rate. It is a dated snapshot from a secondary tracker, not an official score or a durable measure of how many titles run. The tracker’s figures and caveat should be read in that context.
A secondary guide has reported early builds and a start-to-finish milestone for one named game. That single reported milestone does not establish broad compatibility, performance across games, or the state of the project today. The available evidence does not establish a current, verified compatibility list.

How this differs from a conventional emulator
| Question | AnyPS5’s reported approach | Conventional emulator |
|---|---|---|
| Where does translation happen? | By rewriting or relinking the game executable ahead of execution and supplying replacement system libraries. | Typically while the original game runs inside software that models the target system. |
| What runs on the host? | A rewritten Windows or Linux binary, according to the project’s described design. | The original game running within the emulator’s model of the console. |
| What must be supported? | The game’s required system functions and relevant graphics behavior, including the reported Vulkan shader path. | The console hardware and software behavior the emulator models, including the features the game uses. |
| How broad is compatibility? | Game-specific; the function tracker does not measure game compatibility. | Also dependent on the emulator and individual game; no comparative compatibility data is established here. |
| Performance comparison | Not established by the available evidence. | Not established by the available evidence. |
Controls and practical requirements
The controls documentation says AnyPS5 can use SDL-recognized game controllers, describes mappings for Xbox-layout and PlayStation pads, and includes keyboard-and-mouse controls. It also says the first recognized controller is used. This is documentation of input support, not confirmation that every retail controller model works reliably. The controls guide is the relevant reference for mappings and configuration.
The usage documentation discusses Vulkan graphics-device selection and controller-input test configuration. It is technical project documentation, not a consumer-ready minimum-spec guarantee or proof that a particular PC and game will work. The project usage documentation is the place to consult for its stated runtime details, if the official repository remains available.

Did AnyPS5 overturn Sony’s digital strategy?
No evidence establishes that it did. The “digital only” language associated with the project comes from a joking issue title, while some coverage placed the project alongside reports about Sony’s PC-port plans. Neither establishes that Sony changed its storefront, game-ownership or licensing rules, online services, console strategy, or port policy because of AnyPS5.
Technical access and digital rights are separate questions. A relinking project does not, by itself, transfer ownership, grant a license, supply updates or online services, or alter a publisher’s distribution decisions. The available reporting supports describing AnyPS5’s technical ambition—not a reversal of Sony policy or a demonstrated effect on its business.

What to know before looking for a download
Project status is uncertain in the available reporting. Repository documentation appeared in search results, while a secondary tracker said the repository or account returned “not found” as of October 10, 2026. That conflict does not establish whether the project is currently available, which release is latest, or whether a compatibility list remains accessible.
