The Anker Nebula P1i is a portable 1080p Google TV projector with a useful twist: its two built-in speakers rotate to direct sound around the room. It is quick to set up and makes the most sense for casual viewing in a dim bedroom or living room. Its 380 ANSI lumens are modest, however, and the projector has no built-in battery, so bright rooms, large images and outlet-free use are poor fits.
What the Nebula P1i offers
The P1i combines a 1920 × 1080 image, Google TV and stereo speakers in a 3.3 kg unit. Anker’s specifications list a 1.25:1 throw ratio, a 1500:1 contrast ratio, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The official support listing also identifies the supplied box contents as the projector, adapter, remote, two AAA batteries, warranty card and quick-start guide. Anker’s specifications

Its audio design is a more distinctive feature than the spec sheet alone suggests: the two 10 W speakers rotate 90 degrees side to side and 200 degrees vertically, and can play while folded against the body. WIRED found them more substantial than expected. That flexibility can help when moving the projector between rooms, though it does not change the limits of the projected image. How good is the picture?
Brightness and room lighting
At 380 ANSI lumens, the P1i is best considered a low-light projector, not a daytime TV replacement. WIRED’s practical guidance is that a 60–80-inch picture is acceptable in low light; its reviewer also warns that ambient light quickly washes out the image, especially beyond 60 inches. Treat that size range as review guidance rather than a guarantee: perceived brightness depends on room lighting, screen and placement. WIRED’s review

RTINGS likewise found brightness and contrast poor, with raised black levels and limited color volume. Dark scenes can look less convincing than they would on a brighter, higher-contrast display. If your room cannot be darkened or you want a large picture, these compromises are central to the buying decision—not minor settings issues. RTINGS’ review
Placement and image quality
Autofocus, automatic keystone correction, obstacle avoidance and screen fit are intended to reduce setup work. RTINGS says the built-in stand and automatic adjustments make setup convenient, but the P1i has neither optical zoom nor lens shift. Placing it off-axis can therefore make the image less clean; automatic correction does not provide the same flexibility as optical adjustment. Anker’s US product page and RTINGS’ review

Anker Japan lists a 40–150-inch projection range and 15 degrees of stand adjustment. That range is a manufacturer specification for the Japanese listing, not evidence that the projector will deliver a bright, satisfying picture at every size. Its regional SKU is D2200511, and Anker notes specifications may change. Anker Japan’s P1i page

It is portable in the sense that it can be carried between locations: Anker lists a net weight of 3.3 kg and dimensions of 183 × 204 × 228 mm. It is not self-powered. Anker explicitly states that the P1i has no built-in battery, so it needs an outlet or a compatible external power source. Anker’s specifications and Anker’s US product page

For outdoor use, Anker recommends its SOLIX C300 and estimates 3.5–3.7 hours with all features in use. That is the manufacturer’s estimate, not an independently verified runtime; actual performance can depend on the power source and how the projector is used. An external battery can provide power, but it does not make the projector battery-powered. Anker’s US product page
How do setup and Google TV affect everyday use?
The automatic focus and image-correction features are useful when you move the projector, and the built-in stand reduces the need for a separate support. The trade-off is that automatic correction cannot remove every placement limitation: for the cleanest image, aim the projector as squarely at the screen as practical rather than relying on an extreme off-axis setup. Is the P1i suitable for gaming?
RTINGS reports very low input lag at 60 Hz in Game Mode, which can make the P1i a reasonable option for casual 1080p/60 gaming where responsive controls matter. The picture-performance trade-offs still apply: RTINGS notes a 60 Hz ceiling and noticeable motion blur from the LCD imaging system. It is a less compelling choice for high-refresh play or for someone prioritizing motion clarity and image quality. RTINGS’ review

How does the P1i differ from other Nebula models?
Anker Japan’s comparison table lists these figures for its models. They are regional manufacturer specifications, so confirm the current version and availability in your market before relying on them.
| Model | Weight | Resolution | Brightness | Audio design |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capsule Air | 650 g | 720p | 150 ANSI lumens | Not stated in the cited comparison |
| Nebula P1i | 3.3 kg | 1080p | 380 ANSI lumens | Two speakers that rotate while attached |
| Nebula P1 | 2.4 kg | 1080p | 650 ANSI lumens | Detachable speakers |
The P1 is a separate model, not a P1i variant: its detachable speakers differ from the P1i’s flippable built-in arrangement. RTINGS specifically cautions that its P1i test results should not be applied to the P1. Anker Japan’s comparison and RTINGS’ review
Price and availability depend on region
When accessed on October 7, 2026, Anker’s US product page displayed $399; that is a time-sensitive displayed price, not a guaranteed current offer or a global price. Anker Japan listed ¥59,990 including Japanese tax and a February 2026 release month. These are separate regional listings and should not be treated as equivalent prices or proof of availability in other markets. Anker’s US product page and Anker Japan’s P1i page
Who should buy the Anker Nebula P1i?
- A good fit: someone who wants a 1080p Google TV projector that moves between rooms, values built-in adjustable stereo sound and can watch in a darkened space.
- A poor fit: someone who needs a bright picture with lights on, plans to project a large image in a room with ambient light, expects battery operation, or wants flexible optical placement.
- For gaming: consider it for casual 60 Hz play if low input lag matters more than motion clarity or higher refresh rates.
WIRED rated the projector 6/10 and emphasized the same central compromise: useful design and sound, but an image that loses out in ambient light. WIRED’s review
