Angular error NG05703 means server-side rendering (SSR) resolved a URL to an origin Angular did not expect. Angular blocks the request or navigation as a security measure against server-side request forgery (SSRF) and related security bypasses. The fix depends on whether the triggering URL is malformed, application state is changing the origin, or the SSR URL conflicts with the trusted application base.
What NG05703 means
During SSR, Angular resolves relative URLs to absolute ones while making HTTP requests and processing route state. It checks the resolved origin; if a URL appears relative but resolves to a different origin, Angular blocks it and throws NG05703. See Angular’s NG05703 error page.

This is a security check, not simply a sign that the destination server is unreachable. It can be triggered by a malicious or malformed input, an origin-changing navigation or state update, or inconsistent SSR configuration. The error alone does not identify which cause applies.
Why Angular may throw NG05703
Backslashes or parser-confusing URL paths
Browsers and server-side URL parsers can interpret slash and backslash combinations differently. A path that looks relative may consequently resolve to a different host. Treat suspicious backslashes in incoming URL values as untrusted input rather than assuming they are harmless path characters.
#1 Best Overall
Origin-changing navigation or state updates
Angular may reject a navigation or URL update that changes origin when the SSR environment restricts updates to the current origin. The error page identifies location.replaceState and location.pushState as examples of state updates to investigate.
SSR renderer URL and base-origin mismatch
The URL passed to the SSR renderer needs to agree with the trusted base origin used by the application. Angular gives APP_BASE_HREF as an example of relevant configuration. If the renderer starts with a URL that conflicts with that base, router startup synchronization may attempt a disallowed origin change.

Malformed or obfuscated schemes
Angular also documents malformed schemes, including a line-break-containing example such as htntp://evil.com/path. Unexpected characters can make a value behave differently across parsing stages and may be used to try to evade origin checks.

- Capture the exact URL that triggers the error. Check for backslashes, line breaks, unusual characters, and values supplied by users or external requests. Do not diagnose from the error code alone.
- Validate URL inputs before SSR processes them. Reject or sanitize suspicious user-provided values so parser-confusing paths and malformed schemes cannot enter request or navigation handling.
- If the error occurs at startup, compare the renderer URL with the trusted application base. Check the SSR renderer’s
urland relevant base configuration, includingAPP_BASE_HREF, for an origin mismatch. - Review how the host is determined. Do not treat request headers such as
X-Forwarded-Hostas trustworthy by default. Use forwarded host values only when they come from trusted infrastructure and match the intended origin. - For a deliberate cross-origin request, make the intent explicit. Ensure the setup permits the request and use an explicit
http://orhttps://scheme rather than a relative-looking value.
Angular’s documentation describes these as possible causes, not a diagnosis of any particular application. The triggering URL and the application’s SSR and base-origin configuration are needed to determine which applies.
