Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →“Bricked” can mean anything from a phone stuck on its logo to one that cannot power on. What you can safely try depends on the exact model, what appears on screen, and whether the device can still enter a manufacturer-supported recovery mode. Start by identifying those details; do not reset or flash the phone until you understand the data-loss risk.
First, work out what “won’t start” means on your phone
Before changing software, note the manufacturer, exact model or model number, and—if known—the Android build. Record what happens when you press the power button: no response, a charging indicator, a logo that never clears, repeated restarts, Android Recovery, Fastboot or bootloader, or a Samsung emergency recovery screen. Also note whether the buttons respond and whether the phone was dropped, exposed to liquid, or stopped working while updating.

These states are not interchangeable. A phone that reaches a recovery or bootloader screen may still be able to use a supported software-repair route; a phone with no display or no response may have a hardware problem. Button combinations and available tools vary by model and generation, so do not rely on a generic Android button sequence.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Use a known-good charger and check for a charging response before assuming the software is damaged.
- If the manufacturer’s repair route requires a computer, check the phone and computer ports and use a data-capable USB cable. A charging-only cable may not support a USB repair connection; USB-C is appropriate only if both the device and the computer connection use compatible ports.
- Do not repeatedly try random button combinations or firmware files. Identify the exact model first.
Can you unbrick an Android phone without losing data?
Sometimes a phone may become usable again without a reset, but the official reset and reinstall routes described here erase local data. Do not treat flashing, a factory reset, or a repair tool as a way to recover files from an unbootable phone. Google’s Pixel repair page states: “Reinstalling your software will reset your Pixel device to factory settings and erase all your data.”

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

If irreplaceable files are not backed up, stop before any reset, initialization, unlock, or reinstall and ask the manufacturer or a qualified repair provider about options for that exact model. The official instructions cited here do not promise recovery of inaccessible data, and an encrypted phone that cannot boot should not be assumed to yield its local files.
Choose a recovery route that matches the phone’s state
Use the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model and software version. These examples are specific routes, not universal Android fixes.

Check the current device-specific notes before proceeding. |

My Android phone won’t start or is stuck on the logo
For a phone that shows a logo but never reaches the lock screen, use the support page for its manufacturer and model. Samsung describes the relevant symptom as a device that “does not boot to the lock screen or unexpectedly reboots repeatedly” and provides a model-specific support path at Samsung’s guide for a Galaxy device that will not start or is in a boot loop. Follow that guide rather than assuming Smart Switch emergency recovery applies; Samsung’s Smart Switch instructions cover a specific emergency recovery screen.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a Pixel, Google documents a Fastboot-to-Recovery factory-reset path. Follow Google’s instructions for manually resetting a Pixel with Fastboot only if you are prepared for the reset to erase local data. If the device cannot reach the mode required by the steps, do not substitute instructions intended for another model.

My phone is stuck in a boot loop
A repeated restart can result from a software problem, but the symptom alone does not establish the cause. Record the model and the screen sequence, then check the manufacturer’s troubleshooting path before attempting recovery or reinstalling software. For Galaxy devices, use Samsung’s boot-loop support guide; for other Android devices, use the relevant manufacturer’s current support instructions.
If the loop began during or after a system update, avoid interrupting any process the manufacturer says is still in progress. Do not download firmware for a similar-looking model or regional variant: model and build mismatches can make the condition worse.

How to use the Pixel repair route or Samsung emergency recovery
Google Pixel: Fastboot reset or web repair
Google’s manual Fastboot procedure is a factory-reset route, not a data-preserving repair. Check the exact on-screen state and follow the sequence at Reset your Pixel phone manually with Fastboot mode; do not guess at button timing or menu labels from instructions for another model.
Google’s separate Pixel Update and Software Repair workflow connects the phone to a computer over USB. Confirm that the cable supports data transfer and that the connectors are compatible. Google states that software reinstallation resets the Pixel to factory settings and erases all data. If the display does not work, Google’s Pixel guidance advises checking warranty options rather than treating a software tool as a hardware repair.

Samsung: Smart Switch emergency recovery screen
Samsung’s Phone Recovery Guide documents Smart Switch emergency software recovery and the “Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization” menu for its emergency recovery screen. Use it only when the phone is in the state covered by that guide and follow Samsung’s current prompts. This documented case does not mean Smart Switch is the right recovery method for every Samsung restart loop.
When is manual firmware flashing appropriate?
Manual flashing is an advanced, device-specific procedure—not a one-command fix for Android. Android’s Fastboot documentation explains supported flashing workflows, while its bootloader documentation explains that unlocking behavior depends on device support and configuration: Flash with Fastboot and Lock and unlock the bootloader.
Only consider this route when the manufacturer supports it for the exact model and you have the official firmware and current instructions for that model and build. Unlocking may have restrictions and can affect data; flashing the wrong image or ignoring rollback requirements can worsen the failure. Do not relock a modified device based on generic advice.

Firmware cautions can change over time. Google’s Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices currently warns that certain Pixel devices updated to May 2026 or later have an inactive-slot bootloader condition; missing the prescribed sequence can leave an affected device unbootable. Check the page’s current notes for the exact device and build before following any factory-image procedure. That warning applies to the affected devices described by Google, not to all Android phones.
When to stop and get the phone assessed
Stop software troubleshooting and seek manufacturer or authorized service assessment if the display is dead, the phone shows no charging response, it has liquid or impact damage, it cannot enter any manufacturer-supported recovery mode, or the official recovery route fails. Repeated flashing attempts are not a substitute for diagnosing hardware failure. Ask the service provider what repair steps could erase data before authorizing work.
