Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse a Bluetooth HID app when you want a nearby compatible computer, tablet, or TV to treat your Android phone as a keyboard or mouse. Choose a remote-control app when you want features such as a virtual touchpad or media controls and can meet its app, network, and companion-software requirements. If you need to see and operate the computer’s desktop on your phone, use remote desktop instead: it sends the screen as well as your input.
How the three options differ
| Decision | Bluetooth HID app | Remote-control app | Remote desktop |
|---|---|---|---|
| What the other device receives | Keyboard, mouse, or supported media input sent over Bluetooth | Commands through the app’s network connection | Your input plus the remote computer’s screen or session |
| What the target needs | Bluetooth input support and successful pairing | Often a matching desktop app and a working network path | A configured, reachable PC or remote resource |
| Best suited to | Typing, cursor movement, or basic nearby control | Touchpad gestures, media controls, or related device integration | Seeing and operating a full computer desktop on the phone |
| Key setup check | Chosen app’s Android requirement and target’s Bluetooth HID compatibility | Companion software, network requirements, and app compatibility | Client availability, credentials, remote-access setup, and connectivity |
When a Bluetooth HID app is the better choice
A Bluetooth HID (Human Interface Device) app makes the phone act more like a standard Bluetooth keyboard or mouse than a computer-control service. The Android Bluetooth HID Remote project says its app presents the phone as a generic Bluetooth HID and sends keyboard, mouse, and media reports directly to the target, without companion software on that target. That is the project’s description; the target still has to accept Bluetooth input, and compatibility can vary by device and software.

This is usually the simpler fit if you are beside the target and want to type, move a cursor, or send supported media controls. You pair the phone with the target through Bluetooth settings; you do not get the computer’s desktop displayed on the phone.

Check the app and target requirements
- The Android Bluetooth HID Remote project lists Android 9.0 or later for its controller. Its target compatibility guidance is project-maintained, not a guarantee for every device, firmware, or Android build.
- AirMouse’s Google Play listing requires Android 10 or later and says it is intended for devices that accept Bluetooth mouse and keyboard input. These are listing claims, not independent compatibility tests.
Pair using the app’s instructions
- Open the selected HID app on the phone and follow its pairing instructions.
- On the computer, tablet, or TV, open Bluetooth settings and pair the phone as an input device.
- Try the needed keyboard or pointer actions. If pairing succeeds but input does not work, check whether the target supports Bluetooth keyboard or mouse devices and whether the selected app supports your Android version.
AirMouse’s listing describes its setup this way: “Pair once in your Bluetooth settings and your phone becomes the input device.” That statement applies to that app’s listing, not to every Android phone or target.

When a remote-control app is the better choice
Choose a remote-control app when you want phone-friendly controls such as a virtual touchpad or media remote, or other integration the app provides. Unlike Bluetooth HID, a remote-control app may rely on software running on both devices and on a network connection.
KDE Connect: touchpad and media controls
KDE Connect’s Google Play listing describes a virtual touchpad and media remote over Wi-Fi. It says the phone app requires KDE Connect on the computer and advises keeping the desktop and Android versions up to date for the latest features. The listing says Wi-Fi works without a USB cable or Bluetooth. Its update date was August 7, 2026; features and requirements can change.

Phone Link: a narrower Windows option
Microsoft’s Phone Link phone-screen feature has specific prerequisites: Windows 10 October 2018 Update or later, a supported Android phone, and both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Microsoft also notes that some Android apps and games may not respond to mouse or keyboard interaction. Phone Link is therefore not a universal remote-control solution for every Android phone and Windows PC.

When you need remote desktop instead
If your goal is to see the computer’s screen and operate its desktop from the phone, a keyboard-emulation app or a basic remote-control app is the wrong category. Remote desktop carries the screen or session as well as your keyboard, touch, or mouse input.
Microsoft’s Android Remote Desktop instructions cover connecting to a configured remote PC or an administrator-provided resource, with keyboard input, touch gestures, and mouse modes in the Android client. The documentation is labeled previous versions, so verify that a current client is available for your device before following it. The PC or resource must be configured to accept remote connections; installing a phone app alone does not make an arbitrary computer reachable.
