The best dialer app for Android depends on what you want from the on-screen phone keypad: a familiar dial pad, T9 contact search, caller ID and spam controls, or a layout that puts the keypad first. Phone by Google is a sensible starting point for supported devices; Fossify Phone, Quick Dialer, and Easy Phone offer different priorities. None is a universal winner, and advertised features can depend on your phone, Android version, country, and language.
What a dialer keyboard does—and what it does not
A dialer keyboard is the number pad inside a phone app, not a general-purpose Android typing keyboard. Google’s Phone help describes opening Keypad to enter a number; some dialers add T9 search, which matches letters printed on number keys to names or numbers in contacts. That distinction matters if you want a standard keypad with letter labels rather than a contact list above the keys.

Replacing the dialer app can affect more than the keypad. Android’s default dialer role includes the in-call interface and a way to start calls and view call history. An app that only offers a different-looking keypad may not take over incoming and ongoing call screens.

Phone by Google: familiar features, with regional limits
Google’s Play listing says Phone is available on most Android devices running Android 9.0 and above, but some devices may not support the download. Its feature list includes spam warnings and blocking, business caller identification, screening, visual voicemail, and recording; access to specific features is not universal. Google Help says the app may prompt you to make it the default phone app. If you cannot download it, Google says your device may be unsupported.
Fossify Phone: consider the privacy declarations carefully
Fossify’s listing is notable for its stated open-source basis, ad-free experience, and customization. Its data-safety claims can help you decide what to investigate, but do not treat them as an independent security assessment. Review requested permissions and the current listing before installing.

Quick Dialer: for T9 and a keypad-first screen
Quick Dialer’s listing emphasizes T9 contact search and customization, and its update notes describe default-phone support on Android 13 and later. A review dated August 22, 2025 singled out a particular preference: showing a conventional letter-labeled keypad without contacts above it. That anecdote may help identify the layout you want, but check the current app on your phone rather than assuming the same behavior.
Easy Phone: caller controls and themes
Easy Phone advertises a broad set of caller and interface features, including spam blocking, T9, and more than 40 themes. Its data-safety declaration distinguishes sharing from collection: it says no third-party sharing while indicating that personal information, contacts, and device or other IDs may be collected. Read the current listing in full if that distinction matters to you.

How to choose a dialer keyboard
- Keypad and contact search: Decide whether you need only number entry or T9 lookup, and whether the keypad should appear immediately. Check whether the letter labels are readable and whether the layout is adjustable.
- Default-phone behavior: Look for support for Android’s default dialer role, incoming and ongoing call screens, call history, and keypad access during a call—not just an attractive dial pad.
- Caller ID and spam tools: Check what caller identification, blocking, or screening is actually available where you live. Feature coverage may differ by country, device, and language.
- Privacy and permissions: Read the Play Store data-safety section and the requested Android permissions. Treat data-safety wording as a developer declaration, not a third-party audit.
- Compatibility and upkeep: Confirm the required Android version, device support, and latest update date. Carrier and manufacturer behavior may also affect features such as voicemail.
- Customization and costs: Check current ads, in-app purchases, themes, and paid features on the app’s live listing; store terms and third-party price descriptions can change.
Set a replacement as the default phone app
Exact menu labels differ across manufacturers and Android versions. Start in the app’s own setup prompts, then use your phone’s system settings if it asks you to select a default phone app.
- Install the dialer you want to try from its current app listing.
- Open it and follow its prompts to request the default phone-app role. If there is no prompt, look in Android Settings for the default apps or phone app setting; the precise path varies by device.
- Make a test call and check the incoming and ongoing call screens, call history, keypad, and any functions you rely on, such as multi-SIM controls.
- If the app does not behave as expected, return to your system’s default-app settings and select another phone app.
Android defines the default dialer as the app that supplies the in-call user interface and lets users initiate calls and see call history. It must handle the call intent and implement the incoming and ongoing call interfaces. Android also specifies that emergency calls always use the preloaded dialer, even when a different app holds the default dialer role.

An Android Authority comparison dated March 21, 2025 also discussed ACR Phone, Drupe, Vani Dialer, Nextcloud, Google Phone and Contacts, Simple Contacts, and Truecaller. It associated ACR Phone with call recording and a companion helper, Drupe with integrated calling and contacts, Vani with voice-command functions, and Truecaller with caller ID and spam tools. The SimpleMobileTools Simple Dialer project description lists T9-like quick search, call blocking, favorites, multi-SIM support, and no ads or internet access. That description is for that project and should not be assumed to apply to the current Fossify app or every fork.
