To recover a missing picture, check Samsung Gallery’s Trash first, then the OneDrive and Google Photos accounts that may have held a copy. Samsung Gallery’s OneDrive sync ended September 30, 2026, but media synced before that date remains accessible in OneDrive.
Start with the place the photo was deleted or stored
A Samsung account may have connected Gallery to OneDrive, but it does not hold every photo in one universal recovery folder. Gallery Trash, OneDrive’s Recycle bin, and Google Photos Trash are separate. Sign in to the account that was used for the original sync or backup before concluding that a photo is gone.

- Deleted recently in Samsung Gallery: check Gallery Trash.
- Previously synced from Gallery to OneDrive: look in OneDrive and download the file to the device.
- Backed up with Google Photos: check Google Photos and its Trash.
- Expected in Samsung Cloud: Gallery photo sync through Samsung Cloud ended in 2021; it is not the current Gallery photo-sync location.
Restore a recently deleted photo from Samsung Gallery
- Open Gallery on the Galaxy device.
- Open the Gallery menu and choose Trash.
- Select the photo, then tap the restore option.
Samsung Support Germany says Gallery-deleted items are generally recoverable from Trash for 30 days. Its guidance was updated May 23, 2024; menu names and retention may vary by device, software version, region, or app version. If the picture is not there, check cloud services separately.
Find photos previously synced to OneDrive
Samsung says Gallery Sync with OneDrive ended September 30, 2026. Previously synced photos and videos remain in OneDrive, where they can still be viewed and downloaded; new Gallery photos no longer sync through that discontinued integration. Samsung’s Australia notice dated September 29, 2026 confirms that existing synced media remains accessible after termination.

- Open Collections or Library, then Trash (labels vary by app version).
- Select the photo and tap Restore.
Samsung Support India says Google Photos items are permanently deleted after 60 days in Trash. This retention period is separate from Samsung Gallery and OneDrive. See Samsung India’s Google Photos recovery instructions.
Understand what Samsung Cloud can—and cannot—restore
Samsung Germany says Samsung Cloud Gallery Sync and personal Drive storage stopped being supported on June 30, 2021; Microsoft OneDrive replaced Gallery photo sync. Other Samsung Cloud backup, sync, and restore functions continued, but a device backup should not be assumed to contain every Gallery photo. Sync keeps content consistent across connected services, so a deletion may propagate; a separate backup may preserve a copy. Samsung explains the distinction and current cloud checks at Samsung Germany’s Gallery and OneDrive guide.

If the photo appears missing rather than deleted
- Check the Samsung account on the device and the Microsoft and Google accounts in their respective apps; the backup may be under a different sign-in.
- Look in OneDrive and Google Photos even if the photo no longer appears in local Gallery.
- Check cloud backup status and available storage. Samsung notes that uploads stop when storage is exhausted, and that video backup settings can affect what is uploaded.
Samsung advises checking the account used for the original backup. Its troubleshooting guidance is available at Samsung’s missing-photo guidance.
When recovery is unlikely
If a photo is permanently deleted from Gallery and there is no other copy or backup, Samsung says it generally cannot be restored through Gallery. The same caution applies after a cloud service’s Trash is emptied or its retention period ends: signing into a Samsung account cannot recreate a file that was never backed up. Recovery is not guaranteed in those cases.

Prevent the next missing-photo problem
Gallery Sync with OneDrive is no longer a setup option. For future uploads, Samsung says users can use OneDrive Camera Backup as a separate workflow; Google Photos backup is another option. Before relying on either, confirm the correct account, that backup is enabled and completing, that there is available storage, and whether video backup is included. Also understand whether deleting an item in one location can remove it from other synced locations. Samsung’s current guidance is at Samsung Germany’s Gallery and OneDrive guide.
