If you want to use an Android phone’s camera cutout as a shortcut button, Action Notch is the closest match for the free app described here. It assigns tap and swipe gestures on the notch or status bar to actions such as scrolling, taking a screenshot, or toggling the flashlight. Android Authority’s September 6, 2026 hands-on report describes three gestures in the free tier; it does not establish compatibility with every Android phone.
What Action Notch does
Action Notch treats the camera notch or cutout as a virtual button: choose a gesture, then assign an action to it. The app can also be configured to use the full status bar rather than just the cutout, with options such as haptic feedback. According to Android Authority’s September 6, 2026 report, the app runs in the background to listen for configured gestures and offers more than 50 actions, including flashlight controls and integrations with Tasker or MacroDroid.

This is a software shortcut, not a hardware modification. The report says that context-dependent rules require Pro, so the free setup is best understood as a small set of direct gestures and actions rather than a full automation system.
How to set up useful camera-cutout gestures
The report’s practical example assigns each of the free tier’s three gestures a different job:

| Gesture | Assigned action | When it helps |
|---|---|---|
| One touch | Scroll to top | Return to the beginning of a long page or feed. |
| Double touch | Scroll to bottom | Jump to the end of a long page. |
| Long touch | Take a screenshot | Capture the current screen without using a button combination. |
To create a similar setup, install Action Notch from Google Play, grant the permissions the app requests, select a gesture, and assign an action. The exact screen labels can change between app versions; the hands-on report describes this general flow rather than documenting a version-specific menu path. Test each gesture in the apps where you expect to use it before relying on it.
Prevent unwanted triggers
A gesture placed near the top edge of the screen can overlap with controls or other interactions. Wate’s report recommends disabling Action Notch during calls and on the lock screen, and blacklisting apps where its gestures conflict with top-bar use. It also describes adjusting behavior such as haptics. These controls are useful if the cutout gesture activates unintentionally or gets in the way of an app’s own interface.

Free-tier tradeoffs and compatibility
Android Authority reported that the free version included three gestures and ads, including full-screen ads that could make setup more difficult. That is a dated account of the build reviewed on September 6, 2026, not a guarantee of the app’s current pricing, ad behavior, or limits. Check the current Google Play listing before installing.

The same report says Action Notch can work beyond Pixel phones, but it does not provide a complete list of supported models or Android versions. Since the assignment does not identify a phone model, compatibility should be checked for your device rather than assumed. Also review Action Notch’s own current permission requests and data-safety disclosure before enabling it; disclosures for other notch apps do not establish how Action Notch handles data.

What to check before granting access
Android describes an accessibility service as a specialized tool that can enhance the interface for people with disabilities or people temporarily unable to interact fully with a device. Its documentation says these services can operate in the background and interact with apps, and advises that they be built for general-purpose assistive tools. This is platform guidance, not a finding that Action Notch is unsafe or that it collects particular information. Read the app’s own explanation of each requested permission and decide whether its shortcut features justify granting it.
