On a Google Pixel enrolled in Android Beta, the least disruptive way back to public software is to install an available stable update and opt out before accepting another beta update. Google says this limited window avoids a data wipe. If it is no longer available, returning to production by flashing a factory image requires a full device reset. Back up and verify your important data before taking that route.
First, identify your device and current route
The official procedures described here apply to Google Pixel devices. Before changing anything, identify your exact Pixel model, its current Android version and build, and whether it is enrolled in Android Beta for Pixel. Then check whether a stable public update is available for that device.

There is no one universal Android Beta uninstall procedure established for all manufacturers. If you use a Samsung or another non-Pixel device, follow that manufacturer’s current instructions; do not apply Pixel flashing steps or images to it.
Can you leave Android Beta without wiping a Pixel?
Google documents a conditional, time-limited no-wipe option: after applying a stable release update, you can opt out of future beta updates without a data wipe until you apply the next beta update. The window is not a general promise that opting out always preserves data. Check the current instructions and your enrollment status on the Android 16 QPR2 instructions before proceeding.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

- Check whether the stable public update appropriate for your Pixel is available.
- Install the stable update if you choose to take this route.
- Opt out of future beta updates during the limited period before applying another beta update, following the current program instructions.
Google describes the Pixel beta cycle for Android 16 QPR2 as four stable public releases—the platform release and three quarterly platform releases. That cycle detail does not establish which update is available to your particular phone today; availability and supported devices depend on the release.
What happens if the no-wipe window is unavailable?
Google warns that returning from a beta build to a production build by flashing a factory image requires a full device reset, removing all user data. Treat this as data loss, not as a routine update. Before flashing, make and verify a backup of anything you need, and consider whether your apps and services preserve the particular data you care about. Do not assume a backup restores every app’s data.

| Route | When it may apply | Data risk | Prerequisites |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install stable update, then opt out | A stable public release is available and the limited no-wipe period remains open | Google says the opt-out can avoid a wipe during that period | Covered Pixel; check update availability and current beta-program instructions |
| Flash a factory image to return to production | The no-wipe route is unavailable and a matching public image is available | Full reset; all user data is removed | Verified backup, matching Pixel image, and the requirements for the selected flashing method |
| Apply an OTA image for recovery | A beta OTA left the device unable to start | Follow the exact recovery instructions; do not assume this is the ordinary exit route | Matching device-specific OTA instructions |
Using Android Flash Tool or manual flashing
Android Flash Tool is one documented manual method for supported Pixel devices. Google lists a WebUSB-capable browser, an unlocked device, USB debugging, and a USB connection as prerequisites. Unlocking the bootloader itself requires a reset, so account for that data-loss risk before starting. See Google’s factory-image instructions for the applicable setup and procedure.

Google’s supported-device lists and available builds vary by release. For example, the Android 17 OTA page is specific to the devices and images listed there; it is not a universal recommendation to install a particular build. Check the relevant release page before using any image. Google also notes that OTA images can be a recovery option when a device will not start after a beta OTA; its Android 17 Pixel OTA instructions distinguish that recovery situation from ordinary update goals.
If the Pixel will not start after a beta update
Use the recovery instructions that match the device and release rather than treating an OTA recovery image as the default way to leave Beta. Google’s Android 17 Pixel OTA page describes applying an OTA image for a device that will not start after a beta OTA and directs ordinary update goals to the instructions for the relevant version. Read that exact page before acting, and do not use an image intended for a different Pixel or release.

Verify the result
After returning to a public build, check the installed Android version and build in the phone’s settings, and confirm beta enrollment status using the current program instructions. The official pages cited here do not provide one universal post-exit verification sequence for every device and release, so follow the instructions for your specific Pixel and program state.

Beta software can carry stability, battery, performance, accessibility, or app-compatibility issues. Those cautions are stated in the Android 16 QPR release notes, which also say those builds are not CTS-approved; they should not be generalized to every Android beta. See the Android 16 QPR release notes for that release’s details.
