Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Android Beta for Pixel program lets eligible Pixel owners test pre-release Android builds, but beta updates can disrupt normal device functions and the usual opt-out update wipes user data. Check the device and beta version shown for your Google Account on Google’s Android Beta Program page before enrolling or leaving.
Which devices are eligible?
Eligibility is tied to both the Google Account and the device’s current build. Sign in to the Android Beta Program page and review the devices shown for that account. Google says eligible devices appear when they are signed in with that account as the primary user. A device hidden in Google Play will not appear, and a device on a Developer Preview build is not eligible; Google says it must be on a public stable build.

Supported-device lists are version-specific and change as releases move forward. For Android 17 QPR 1, Google’s list includes Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a; Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a; Pixel Tablet; Pixel Fold; Pixel 8, 8 Pro and 8a; Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold and 9a; Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL and 10 Pro Fold; and Pixel 10a. This is the list for that QPR 1 release, not a promise that every device can enroll in every beta. The live program page was promoting Android 17 QPR2 Beta on October 3, 2026, so check the current version and its device list before proceeding. See Google’s Android 17 QPR 1 enrollment page for that release’s specifics.
What are the risks of installing an Android beta?
Google warns that beta updates are pre-release software that may contain errors and defects affecting normal device use. Android 17 release notes document issues reported and fixed during that cycle involving signal display, external displays, Bluetooth audio, hearing aids, accessibility, freezes and device restarts. These are examples from the release cycle, not a forecast that every enrolled device will experience them. The Android 17 release notes describe the issues and fixes.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Google recommends backing up before enrollment. Its Android 17 QPR 1 instructions say that installing the beta usually does not require a full reset, but that is not a guarantee against problems or data loss. A backup is prudent; it does not make the later opt-out wipe disappear.
How can I opt out and return to a public Android release?
Decide first whether you can accept a wipe. The standard opt-out route offers a public stable update that wipes all user data. If preserving the device’s local data is essential, do not install that update until you have reviewed the narrow no-wipe timing described below and the current on-device update notice.

- Go to Google’s Android Beta Program page and sign in to the account enrolled on the Pixel.
- Find the enrolled device and select Opt out.
- Google says an update should arrive within 24 hours. Installing the offered update removes user data and installs the latest public stable release.
You can decline that update. If you remain opted out and wait for the next public stable release of the Android version you were testing, the wait may be three to four months, depending on when you opted out. Google says applying that version’s final public release does not wipe the device. It also cautions that restoring from a backup may have issues. The timing and availability depend on the release cycle; follow the current instructions before acting.

There is a limited, release-dependent window. After installing the stable public release update for the version you were testing, you can opt out of future beta updates without a data wipe—but only until you install the next beta update. If avoiding a wipe matters, verify that the update offered on the device is the matching stable public release, and opt out before accepting another beta update. Check the current program instructions and on-device update details; this window is not a general no-wipe option available at any time.
How long does it take to receive the update after opting in or out?
Google says an opt-in or opt-out update may take up to 24 hours to arrive. Its FAQ describes up to four automatic updates per month for each program and says beta builds include separate monthly security updates. These are the program FAQ’s expectations, not a guaranteed delivery schedule. The same FAQ says declining the immediate stable update after opting out can mean waiting three to four months for the next public stable release; the actual wait depends on the release cycle and when you opted out.

| Choice | What it offers | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Enroll in the beta | Early access to pre-release software and the opportunity to provide feedback. | Errors may affect ordinary device functions, and leaving through the standard update path wipes user data. |
| Stay on the public stable build | Remain on the public release track without installing the beta. | You do not get the beta’s early access. |
| Opt out after enrolling | Return to the public stable track using the offered stable update, or wait for the matching final public release. | Installing the offered update wipes data; waiting can take months. A no-wipe exit is limited to the period after the matching stable release and before the next beta update. |
Before enrolling, weigh early access and feedback against the possibility of software defects on a device you rely on. Before opting out, understand whether you are taking the immediate wipe-causing update or waiting for the final stable release.
