Yes—Android Auto can use navigation apps beyond Google Maps. Consider HERE WeGo if you need offline maps, Waze if you value driver incident reports, or another dedicated navigation app such as Sygic GPS Navigation or the TomTom app. The best fit depends on the features you need and whether the app works with your phone, car, country, and connection setup.
What to check before switching navigation apps
Android Auto supports navigation with Google Maps or a compatible navigation app. Google describes voice guidance, estimated arrival times, live traffic, and lane guidance as navigation functions; what you see and can control depends on the app and your setup. Check the app’s current listing and compatibility before relying on it for a trip.

- Offline use: Confirm that the app supports downloaded maps and learn whether you must enable an offline mode.
- In-car controls: Check whether you can search, change a route, add stops, or reach saved places from the car display.
- Traffic and reports: Live traffic and driver-submitted incident reports are different features. Consider what information the app collects to provide them.
- Compatibility: Phone, car display, country, installation source, and USB or wireless connection can affect availability.
- Current product: Install the app the provider currently supports, not a discontinued predecessor.
Google’s Android Auto help describes navigation and connection setup, including USB and wireless connections. A wireless adapter is an optional accessory for some wired setups; it does not add navigation features or replace a compatible app.
Which Android Auto navigation app fits your needs?
| App | Consider it for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| HERE WeGo | Offline-oriented navigation | Download maps for the regions you need and turn on offline mode. Some route controls are unavailable after navigation starts. |
| Waze | In-drive incident reporting | Drivers can report several traffic and road issues through Android Auto. Search behavior and some controls vary by country and setup. |
| Sygic GPS Navigation | A dedicated navigation app | Sygic directs users to this current app; its former Car Navigation app was discontinued. |
| TomTom app | Another documented navigation-app option | TomTom documents an Android Auto app path, but the cited support category does not establish its current feature set or regional availability. |
| MapFactor Navigator | Potential offline option to investigate | A 2021 company announcement described Android Auto and offline maps; that dated claim does not confirm present-day features or terms. |
HERE WeGo: prepare offline maps before you go
HERE WeGo is the clearest choice in this list when offline navigation is the priority. Download maps for the regions you plan to visit, then switch the app to offline mode. If your connection drops during an online route, HERE advises stopping that navigation and starting a new route in offline mode rather than assuming the existing route will continue offline.

To use it with Android Auto, open HERE WeGo on your phone, connect to the car, set a destination, and start navigation. HERE says adding stops and changing route preferences after navigation has begun are not yet compatible with Android Auto. If WeGo does not appear on the car display, check that you installed it from Google Play.
The phone app also plans routes for driving, public transport, cycling, and walking, with availability varying by service and country. HERE says its traffic feature sends ride information, including location and direction, and combines it with information from other drivers. That data sharing is worth considering if you prefer not to transmit location-related trip information for traffic features.

For Android Users: Requires a phone running Android 11 or later with "Wireless Android Auto" enabled. Includes USB-A to USB-C adapter for wider port compatibility.
Some destination searches depend on country, and some Android Auto apps do not support touchpad input. Google’s setup instructions also cover USB and wireless connections; confirm that the car display and phone are compatible before troubleshooting the app itself. Waze’s incident-reporting features may suit drivers who want this kind of live driving information, but they are not a guarantee of road conditions or a substitute for safe driving.
Google documents these features in its Android Auto and Waze help.

Sygic GPS Navigation: choose the supported app
Sygic says development of its older Sygic Car Navigation app ended at version 18.6.2. In a support article updated October 14, 2025, the company says valid licenses were transferred to Sygic GPS Navigation and that app and map updates continue there. The article identifies the current app as supporting Android Auto and CarPlay. Install Sygic GPS Navigation rather than looking for the discontinued standalone app.

TomTom and MapFactor: verify current details
TomTom app
TomTom’s support center includes an article titled “TomTom app with Android Auto™,” documenting an Android Auto path. The cited category page does not establish current supported features, prices, offline-map capabilities, or regional availability, so check the app listing and support information for your location before switching.
MapFactor Navigator
MapFactor’s Navigator 7 announcement from 2021 described Android Auto compatibility and offline map data for directions without an internet connection. It also listed voice turn-by-turn guidance, lane assistance, live HD traffic, alternative routes, and 2D/3D map modes. These are claims from that dated announcement, not confirmation that the same features or terms remain available now.

Set up and troubleshoot Android Auto navigation
- Confirm compatibility: Check that your phone, car display, and chosen app support Android Auto in your country. Connect by USB or wirelessly if your setup supports it.
- Install the current app: Use the provider’s current app listing. For HERE WeGo, install directly from Google Play; HERE says another installation source can prevent it from appearing in Android Auto.
- Prepare maps and permissions: If you need offline driving, download the right regions and enable offline mode before leaving coverage. Review location and other requested permissions in the phone’s app settings.
- Start navigation: Open the app, connect Android Auto, set a destination, and begin guidance. For HERE WeGo, start the route on the phone as part of setup.
- If the app is missing: Check installation source and compatibility, then disconnect and reconnect Android Auto. If the app is visible but a control is missing, the feature may not be supported on the car display; HERE, for example, documents limits on adding stops and changing route preferences after guidance starts.
Choose by the problem you want to solve
- You need navigation without mobile data: Start with HERE WeGo, but download the relevant maps and explicitly enable offline mode in advance.
- You want to report incidents while driving: Try Waze for its Android Auto reporting options, keeping country and input-method differences in mind.
- You want a different dedicated navigation interface: Check Sygic GPS Navigation or TomTom’s app, and verify current features and availability for your location.
- You are considering MapFactor for offline use: Treat its Android Auto and offline claims as historical until you confirm current support in the app listing or provider documentation.
