Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →An experimental MSU-1 feature was proposed for the Analogue Pocket’s SNES core, but the pull request did not become a release. Maintainer agg23 objected to the unsolicited submission’s size and scope, describing it as a nearly 50,000-line diff built completely with an LLM and saying it “has no place in my world.” Those are the maintainer’s assessments, not independently verified findings about the code or its authorship.
What was proposed for the Pocket SNES core?
On October 5, 2026, GitHub contributor nasonliu opened pull request #123 in the agg23/openfpga-SNES repository. Titled “Experimental MSU-1 streaming and standard-memory profiles,” the proposal described experimental streaming of MSU-1 audio from SD storage to the Analogue Pocket’s SNES core. The pull request is marked closed, and its description identifies it as a draft source contribution—not a release.

The Analogue Pocket is a handheld that can run FPGA-based console cores; in this case, the proposal targeted its SNES core. The feature idea concerned MSU-1, an enhancement standard used in emulation and ROM-hack settings. It is not a chip that shipped inside the original Super Nintendo; GamesRadar’s October 6, 2026 report describes it as a fictional chip.
Why did the maintainer object?
In a comment on the pull request, repository owner and maintainer agg23 acknowledged that the feature idea was interesting, then criticized the submission as unsolicited and difficult to review. He wrote that it was a “nearly 50k line diff,” “completely LLM built,” and contained “SO MUCH unrelated garbage.” He also objected that it touched much of the upstream HDL despite, in his view, upstream already having MSU-1 support.

Those descriptions are agg23’s characterization of the proposed change; the available record does not establish an independent line-count audit or independently verify how the code was produced. His central concern was the review burden and the contributor’s decision to submit a large, unrequested change. “This kind of behavior is not acceptable,” he wrote, arguing that pushing code with little of the contributor’s own effort imposed on maintainers’ time and attention. He closed: “It has no place in my world.” Read the full pull request and comment for the primary record.
Was the feature merged or released?
No. Pull request #123 is closed, and the contribution is described as a draft rather than a release. The pull request description includes contributor-reported hardware feedback and validation notes, including areas that were explicitly not accepted. Those notes are not independent certification of compatibility, and they do not establish that the feature was released or works generally across MSU-1 content.

Does this mean the project bans AI-assisted code?
The incident documents one maintainer’s response to one unsolicited pull request. It does not establish a formal project-wide AI policy or a general rejection of AI-assisted programming. The distinction matters: agg23’s stated objections included the claimed size and unrelated changes, the work being unrequested, and the review effort expected of maintainers—not merely the presence of AI in the process.

For contributors, the practical lesson from this exchange is to check a project’s contribution process before submitting substantial work, keep a change narrowly scoped, and be prepared to explain and support the code. The record does not say that those steps would have resulted in acceptance; it shows why this submission, as the maintainer described it, was unwelcome.
