ASUS lists AMD’s 16-core Ryzen 9 8940HX in its 2025 ROG Strix G16 specifications, making the G16 the clearest confirmed laptop pairing for the Dragon Range Refresh processor. ASUS specifies a 2.4 GHz base clock, boost speeds up to 5.3 GHz and 80 MB of cache. The listing establishes the configuration, not a measured performance gain over earlier Ryzen HX chips.

AMD’s 2025 Ryzen consumer quick-reference guide also includes the Ryzen 9 8945HX in the Dragon Range-R family. That places the 8940HX within a refresh generation, but the available specifications do not establish benchmark results or a quantified performance uplift over previous chips. [c3]

Which ASUS laptop has the 8940HX?
ASUS publicly lists the Ryzen 9 8940HX in the 2025 ROG Strix G16. Notebookcheck reported an ASUS listing on JD.com pairing the processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. That is one reported configuration, not a guarantee that every G16—or every market—uses that GPU. [c1][c2]

Why the exact ROG Strix G16 SKU matters
The G16 name covers different regional configurations. ASUS lists an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU on its UK page and an RTX 5060 configuration on another regional page, while the JD.com listing reported by Notebookcheck pairs the 8940HX with an RTX 5070 Ti. GPU, memory, storage, display and price can therefore differ even when the laptop family name is the same. [c1][c2][c4]
Before buying, compare the complete SKU and listing rather than relying on “ROG Strix G16” alone. In particular, check:
- Processor model and clock specifications
- Discrete GPU model and its power limit
- Display resolution and refresh rate
- Installed RAM capacity and upgradeability
- SSD capacity
- Cooling design, battery and laptop weight
- Warranty coverage for your region and the current price
How fast is the 8940HX?
The published figures describe a 16-core, 32-thread processor with boost speeds up to 5.3 GHz. They are specifications, not independent performance measurements. The available evidence does not establish benchmark scores, sustained power limits or a tested performance difference versus the Ryzen 9 7940HX or newer Ryzen HX chips. A laptop’s GPU, cooling and power configuration also matter when judging the performance of a complete G16 system.

The ASUS specification page confirms that the 8940HX is listed for a shipping laptop family, and the JD.com report identifies one G16 configuration. Those listings do not establish universal retail availability, identical specifications across regions, or current stock and pricing. Verify the precise regional model and seller listing before treating any configuration as available to you.
