Short answer: this was a genuine Black Friday 2024 promotion, but it is not evidence of a current August 2026 Amazon deal. Gizmodo’s November 28, 2024 report listed four U.S. LG OLED C4 sizes at roughly 35% to 45% below its comparison prices—not 50% off. The 65-inch model had the deepest percentage discount; the 77-inch model saved the most dollars.
What the original Amazon deal actually was
Gizmodo published the deal report on November 28, 2024, during Black Friday. It listed 48-, 55-, 65- and 77-inch LG OLED C4 televisions on Amazon. The article described Amazon as the only retailer offering comparable discounts, but it did not establish a complete retailer comparison, how long each price lasted, whether every listing was sold and shipped by Amazon, or whether Prime membership was required. See the original Gizmodo report for its dated listing information.

LG 65-Inch Class OLED evo C4 Series Smart TV 4K Processor Flat Screen with Magic Remote AI-Powered... | $1,278.90 | Buy on Amazon |
Those figures should be treated as historical snapshots. They do not prove that the same listings, sellers, conditions or prices exist now. As of August 18, 2026, the available evidence does not establish a live Amazon promotion at those prices.
Prices, savings and the “half price” claim
| Size | Reported sale price | Comparison price | Dollar saving | Discount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 48-inch | $996 | $1,599 | $603 | 37.7% |
| 55-inch | $1,296 | $1,999 | $703 | 35.2% |
| 65-inch | $1,496 | $2,699 | $1,203 | 44.6% |
| 77-inch | $2,196 | $3,699 | $1,503 | 40.7% |
The percentages are calculated from the prices printed in Gizmodo’s article. None reaches a literal 50% reduction. “Almost half price” is therefore promotional wording, not an arithmetic description. A comparison price may be an MSRP, a former Amazon price or another reference amount; the article does not document which type applied to each listing. MSRP also may not equal the television’s normal recent selling price.

Why the 55-inch price needs special caution
Prices changed quickly. GamesRadar later reported the 55-inch C4 at $1,196.99, described as a $300 reduction, and mentioned a brief earlier price of $1,096. That differs from Gizmodo’s $1,296 figure. GamesRadar’s assessment is historical and specific to its dated listing, not a permanent price or proof of the lowest price for every C4. Read its account at GamesRadar+.
Which size was the best value?
Best percentage discount: 65 inches
At approximately 44.6% below the stated comparison price, the 65-inch model was the closest to half off.
Largest dollar saving: 77 inches
The 77-inch television represented a stated $1,503 reduction, the largest cash saving, but it also required the highest upfront spend and more demanding delivery and installation.
Lowest entry price: 48 inches
The 48-inch model was the least expensive at $996, making it a practical option for a bedroom, office or smaller room.

Most broadly useful size: 55 inches
The 55-inch version is a conventional all-purpose choice, but its value depends on the live price. A listing near GamesRadar’s $1,196.99 figure was materially better than Gizmodo’s $1,296 snapshot.
There is no single “best” size: the answer changes depending on whether you prioritize upfront cost, percentage discount, total savings, room size or immersion.
What the LG OLED C4 offers
The C4 uses self-emissive OLED pixels, producing precise black levels and high contrast without a separate backlight. The reported feature set includes 4K resolution, LG’s Alpha 9 Gen 7 processor, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDMI 2.1, refresh rates up to 144Hz, a cited 0.1ms response time, wireless Dolby Atmos support and Alexa functionality. These specifications come from the Gizmodo coverage; confirm the exact U.S. model suffix and current software features on LG’s U.S. TV pages before buying.
HDMI 2.1 and a 144Hz capability are useful for gaming, but they do not guarantee 4K/144Hz output in every setup. The console or PC, graphics hardware, cable, HDMI port, game and television settings all determine the actual signal. Check for the required variable-refresh-rate and auto-low-latency support, and confirm whether Dolby Vision gaming matters to your device.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIs a C4 still a good buy in 2026?
Potentially—but only at the right price. The C4 is an older generation by 2026, so compare its final checkout cost with newer LG C-series televisions and similarly priced mini-LED models rather than using the original MSRP alone.
Reasons to consider one
- OLED contrast and strong movie performance in a controlled-light room.
- Fast response and high-refresh-rate support for console or PC gaming.
- A substantial price gap versus comparable current-generation models.
- A new, factory-sealed unit with valid U.S. manufacturer warranty coverage.
Reasons to skip one
- The price is close to a newer LG model.
- The listing is used, refurbished, open-box or sold by an unfamiliar marketplace vendor.
- Your room receives strong direct sunlight and you prioritize maximum brightness; a mini-LED may suit that use better.
- You display static news tickers, sports scoreboards, desktop interfaces or other fixed elements for many hours and do not want to manage image-retention risk.
- The model is an imported regional variant without clear U.S. warranty, tuner, plug or software support.
Amazon checklist before placing an order
- Match the exact size and model number. C4 suffixes can differ by market and configuration.
- Confirm condition. Make sure the page says new if that is what you intend to buy, rather than used, renewed or open-box.
- Check seller and fulfillment. Review whether it is sold and shipped by Amazon, LG or an authorized retailer, or by a third-party marketplace seller.
- Verify warranty eligibility. Imported and marketplace stock may not receive the same U.S. support.
- Review the return window and large-item process. Do not assume a historical holiday return policy still applies.
- Check the final checkout total. Determine whether the price requires a coupon and account for shipping, delivery, installation, recycling and any protection plan.
- Compare the reference price with recent history. A stated MSRP is not proof of a genuine current bargain. A tracker such as CamelCamelCamel can help with Amazon history, but it may not capture every seller, coupon, bundle or rapidly changing deal.
- Confirm stock and delivery date. Clearance inventory can disappear or arrive from a different seller.
- Check what is included. Verify the stand, remote and other accessories.
- Inspect delivery immediately. Photograph the unopened box, then check the panel for cracks, pressure marks, dead pixels and shipping damage as soon as possible. Follow the retailer’s current damage and return instructions.
Bottom line
The headline described a real Black Friday 2024 promotion, but “half price” overstated the arithmetic and the deal should not be presented as current in 2026. The 65-inch C4 was the strongest percentage bargain in the reported table, while the 77-inch version delivered the largest dollar saving. Buy a C4 today only when the live price is clearly below newer alternatives and the listing offers a new unit, identifiable seller and valid U.S. warranty. Otherwise, treat the 2024 prices as historical context—not a reason to purchase.
