The key difference is the stated condition of the offer—not a guarantee that one destination is always cheaper or that every Resale item has been used.

What you’ll find in Amazon Outlet
Outlet is intended to help sell overstock and clearance merchandise through discounts. Amazon’s seller-facing description calls it “a customer-facing promotional channel for markdowns, clearance, and selling through overstocked products.” Its seller material describes eligible products as new condition, but that is not a promise that every offer has a particular discount, lasts for a set time, or is cheaper than the same item elsewhere on Amazon.

What you’ll find in Amazon Resale
Amazon Resale, the current name for Amazon Warehouse, lists used, pre-owned, and open-box products at discounts. “Open-box” does not necessarily mean an item was used; the relevant question is the condition Amazon assigns to that specific offer and the notes attached to it.

Amazon says it checks items’ physical and functional condition before resale. For electronic items, Amazon says its evaluation includes powering them on, testing them, and factory-resetting them. That is Amazon’s stated process, not a guarantee that an item will be free of defects.
How Amazon’s Resale grades differ
- Like New: Amazon describes these items as fully working with essential accessories. Packaging may be damaged.
- Very Good, Good, or Acceptable: Lower grades can involve cosmetic wear, repackaging, or missing accessories, including non-essential accessories. Read the item-level notes to see what applies to the offer you are considering.
Amazon’s grade is a useful starting point, but it does not replace the listing’s specific condition notes. Check those notes for wear, packaging, and what is included before deciding whether the discount is worthwhile.

Which destination should you choose?
- Choose Outlet when you want clearance or overstock merchandise described under Amazon’s seller-facing criteria as new condition.
- Consider Resale when you are comfortable with an open-box or used item and the specific grade, condition notes, and price make sense to you.
There is no established apples-to-apples savings figure showing that either destination is cheaper overall. Compare the individual offer with the new-product listing, accounting for condition and any missing accessories rather than relying on the destination name alone.
Returns and availability
Amazon says Resale purchases are covered by Amazon’s returns policy. For Amazon.com in the United States, Amazon says most items can be returned within 30 days, subject to exceptions. That is not a blanket promise that every item is returnable for 30 days: check the return terms displayed for the exact item and order before purchasing. Amazon’s US returns policy describes the general rules and exceptions.

Resale stock changes frequently, and Amazon says a replacement in the exact same condition may not be available. Treat any price or condition you see as specific to that listing; verify it again when you are ready to buy.

No. Amazon Warehouse is now called Amazon Resale, which offers graded open-box, used, and pre-owned items. Outlet is a separate clearance and overstock destination whose seller-facing eligibility criteria describe stock as new condition. They are both ways to find discounts, but the condition of the offer—and what you should inspect—differs.
