Choose Amazon Luna if you already have Prime and its current rotating selection includes games you want; choose Xbox Cloud Gaming if you want a tiered Game Pass catalog and published monthly cloud-playtime allowances. For US subscribers, Xbox lists three cloud-capable Game Pass plans at $9.99, $14.99, and $22.99 per month, with 5, 10, and 15 hours of cloud play per month, respectively. Amazon describes Luna Standard as a benefit for eligible Prime members and Luna Premium as a paid tier, but the official material cited here does not establish a current US Premium price. So there is no reliable price verdict without checking the live Luna price and whether you would pay for Prime anyway.
What each service includes
Amazon Luna
Luna Standard is a game selection available to eligible Amazon Prime members while the benefit is active. Amazon selects the games, and the selection rotates; access is not permanent ownership. Amazon also offers Luna Premium as a paid subscription with an expanded library. The current fee should be checked on Amazon’s subscription details, rather than inferred from older references to Luna+.Amazon Luna Amazon Luna subscription terms

Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox Cloud Gaming streams supported games from the Game Pass catalog and select free-to-play titles. Most Game Pass titles are cloud-playable, but not all; the cloud library is a subset, and availability can vary by plan, region, platform, and time. Xbox also says select free-to-play games can be streamed with a free Microsoft account. Use the live cloud-playable list to check a particular game.Xbox Cloud Gaming
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsGame libraries: compare the games you will actually play
A headline catalog count does not tell you whether a particular game is available to stream on your tier, in your country, today. Luna Standard rotates its included selection, while Luna Premium expands it. Game Pass has a broader tiered catalog, but the cloud-playable subset may not include every catalog title. Check the intended game on each service before subscribing, and recheck if you are planning around a specific release or a game that may leave a subscription catalog.

Amazon’s terms distinguish Prime-linked Luna Standard from paid Luna Premium, but do not state a current Premium price in the cited terms. Prime itself has a separate cost. If you would subscribe to Prime only to use Luna, include the full Prime membership cost in your comparison; if you already pay for Prime, consider whether Luna’s current selection justifies the additional spend. Do not assume Luna is cheaper than Xbox until you have checked the current Premium fee and your own Prime cost.
Supported devices and setup

Xbox Cloud Gaming devices and connection
Xbox lists Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, select LG, Samsung, and VIDAA TVs, Amazon Fire TV, select Meta Quest headsets, and other supported devices. Cloud play requires an eligible subscription and a supported device and region. A compatible controller is generally required, though select games support touch controls.
Xbox lists a minimum download speed of 10 Mbps and says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. An Xbox Wire setup guide recommends at least 20 Mbps for a stable connection. These are service recommendations, not a promise of consistent performance: Wi-Fi quality, latency, congestion, and the device also affect the experience. How to choose between Luna and Xbox
- Check your country and device first. Confirm the service is available where you live and that your exact TV, browser, phone, or computer is supported.
- Make a short list of games you want to play. Check Luna’s current tier selection and Xbox’s cloud-playable list for your region. Do not rely on a general catalog count.
- Calculate your likely monthly cost. For Luna, count Prime if you would buy it only for gaming, and check Luna Premium’s current fee if you need its expanded library. For Xbox, select the plan whose catalog and monthly cloud hours fit your use.
- Estimate your playtime. The listed US Xbox plans provide 5, 10, or 15 cloud hours monthly. If you expect to play beyond your chosen allowance, verify the current plan terms before subscribing.
- Check input and network needs. Confirm controller compatibility or touch support for your games, and test the connection on the device you intend to use.
Which service is the better fit?
- Pick Luna to investigate first if you already have eligible Prime, want to try its rotating included games, and find enough titles in the current selection.
- Pick Xbox to investigate first if the Game Pass cloud-playable catalog has the games you want and one of its published US tiers fits your budget and monthly playtime.
- Compare both directly if you are deciding based on price: Luna’s current Premium fee is not stated in the cited terms, and Prime may be an existing or incremental expense.
Xbox Wire reported a 45% year-over-year increase in Xbox cloud gaming hours in 2025. That is Xbox’s reported usage change at the time, not an industry-wide statistic or a measurement for 2026. Xbox Wire, December 19, 2025
