The second-generation Amazon Echo Studio is a much smaller, Alexa-focused speaker, but independent reviews find limits in loudness and bass impact. It makes the most sense for people who want a compact Alexa device and may add a compatible Fire TV home-theater setup; stereo listeners and movie fans seeking powerful, room-filling sound should compare alternatives before buying.
Which Echo Studio is this?
This review covers the redesigned Echo Studio (2025 release), not the larger first-generation model introduced in 2019. Amazon says the new spherical speaker is about six inches in diameter and 40% smaller than the original. Those are Amazon’s product claims, not independent measurements. The smaller form is the clearest change for anyone comparing the two generations.

Amazon says the speaker combines a high-excursion woofer with three full-range drivers and supports spatial audio and Dolby Atmos. Those format and hardware claims do not establish that one compact speaker performs like a dedicated surround system.

Balanced presentation, but limited impact
RTINGS describes the default sound as fairly balanced, with mid-range reproduction that generally keeps lead instruments in balance. Its review also notes weak bass punch and thump, a dip in the low treble that can reduce vocal clarity, mono-only playback, and restricted loudness. These are that publication’s review findings; the experience can vary by room, content, and listener.

Movies and video
RTINGS characterizes the speaker’s movie performance as middling, citing insufficient low-end impact for cinematic moments and high latency when playing video from Android and iOS devices. TechRadar, which says it tested the redesigned model for two weeks, likewise found that the audio hardware did not quite match its predecessor and that dynamic range reached its limits during movie testing. Its home-theater trial with one Studio reported useful depth and clarity, but an initial lip-sync delay that could be adjusted in settings. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guarantee for every pairing.
In short, the Studio’s spatial-audio and Dolby Atmos support may appeal if you want those formats in a compact Alexa speaker, but format support alone does not make it the best choice for loud, cinematic playback. If stereo presentation or strong dynamic impact is central to your listening, compare dedicated stereo speakers or a soundbar.

What does it do well beyond sound?
The strongest case for the 2025 Studio is the combination of a smaller enclosure and Alexa integration. It can be used as part of Alexa Home Theater with selected Fire TV hardware, so existing Amazon households can expand beyond a standalone smart speaker. Amazon’s launch announcement listed a US price of $219.99; that is a September 2025 launch figure, not a current quote or a price for other markets. Check the live listing and local availability before deciding whether the system cost makes sense.
Amazon describes spatial audio and Dolby Atmos as supported features. Treat that as format capability rather than proof of equivalent output to a multi-speaker surround setup. The independent reviews cited here identify output and dynamic-range constraints that matter particularly for film use.

Can Echo Studio 2025 connect to Fire TV?
Yes, but Alexa Home Theater compatibility depends on the exact Echo and Fire TV models. Amazon’s compatibility guide lists the Echo Studio (2025 release), Echo Dot Max, and Echo Sub in a configuration supporting up to five Echo speakers plus a subwoofer. For that configuration, the listed Fire TV devices are:
- Fire TV Cube (3rd Generation)
- Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation)
- Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Generation)
- Fire TV Stick 4K Plus
Do not assume every Fire TV device or television works: Amazon’s guide says, for example, that Fire TV Stick HD (2nd Generation), Fire TV Stick 4K Select, and several newer television models do not currently support Alexa Home Theater. Check the exact model against Amazon’s current compatibility information before purchasing equipment.

Adding an Echo Sub
Amazon says one Echo Sub can be added to enhance bass. It must be paired in Alexa Home Theater settings with matching Echo speakers and cannot be used by itself as a standalone speaker. A larger configuration also adds equipment and setup dependencies, so compare its total cost with a soundbar or other system rather than evaluating the Studio alone.

For safety, Amazon’s US safety page identifies the device as model P8Z7MN, rated at 30.0 V / 1.66 A, with an operating temperature range of 0–35°C (32–95°F). Use the included or model-specified power equipment and consult current regional support information.
Microphone controls and voice recordings
Amazon says the microphone enable/disable button turns the microphone off. Its setup documentation also says users can review or delete voice recording history. The same UK support article explains that when the blue light is on, Alexa is listening and processing the request in Amazon’s secure cloud. These are Amazon’s descriptions of the controls and service behavior.
2025 Echo Studio vs. the first generation
The 2025 model is the more compact redesign and brings the newer platform and documented Fire TV configuration. The trade-off is not simply size: TechRadar found its audio hardware did not quite match the predecessor. A used or remaining first-generation unit may differ in condition, warranty, and feature support, so verify those specifics rather than assuming the models are interchangeable. For a comparison, prioritize the characteristics that matter in your room:
- Choose the 2025 Studio if a smaller Alexa speaker and the option to build a compatible Fire TV setup matter most.
- Compare other speakers if stereo playback, higher volume, or deeper movie impact matters more than Alexa integration.
- Check total system cost if you plan to add multiple speakers, a supported Fire TV device, or the optional Echo Sub.
TechRadar’s comments about Alexa+ were limited by UK availability at the time of its review. That is a dated regional review condition, not evidence that Alexa+ is unavailable everywhere today.
Verdict: Is the new Echo Studio worth it?
The Echo Studio (2025) is best viewed as a compact Alexa speaker that can join a precisely supported Fire TV home-theater arrangement—not as a guaranteed replacement for a stereo pair or dedicated movie system. Consider it if its smaller design and Amazon ecosystem fit your needs, and weigh the independent reviewers’ findings on loudness, bass, mono playback, and dynamic range against your priorities. Its value depends on whether Alexa integration and compatibility outweigh those sound trade-offs for you.
