Amazon CloudFront pricing for video streaming: what to expect depends on which of two billing models you choose. Pay-as-you-go charges vary with traffic, requests, geography, and configuration; flat-rate plans charge a published monthly price for each distribution and include stated usage allowances. Neither model produces a universal price per viewing minute. Estimate your actual workload, then verify current rates and plan terms on AWS’s CloudFront pricing page.
How much does CloudFront cost for video streaming?
AWS lists four standard flat-rate plans, priced per distribution. The following prices and baseline allowances were checked on October 3, 2026; AWS may change them, so confirm the live page before budgeting.

| Plan | Monthly price per distribution | Monthly data transfer allowance | Monthly request allowance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 GB | 1 million |
| Pro | $15 | 50 TB | 10 million |
| Business | $200 | 50 TB | 125 million |
| Premium | $1,000 | 50 TB by default | 500 million by default |
Premium has higher configurable monthly capacity options: 75 TB and 750 million requests for $1,450; 125 TB and 1.25 billion for $2,250; 200 TB and 2 billion for $3,500; 350 TB and 3.5 billion for $6,000; and up to 600 TB and 6 billion for $10,000. These are AWS-published values checked October 3, 2026, not a promise that the same options or prices will remain available. See AWS pricing for current terms.

Both. Pay-as-you-go billing is variable: the bill depends on delivered data, requests, viewer geography, cache behavior, and the services or features enabled. Flat-rate pricing is a monthly charge per distribution with published transfer and request allowances. AWS says customers may use different billing models across different distributions, which can be useful when workloads have different traffic patterns.
#1 Best Overall
- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
When a flat-rate plan may fit
- You want a more predictable per-distribution monthly charge.
- Your projected requests and delivered data fit the plan’s allowances.
- The included services and features meet your needs.
When pay-as-you-go may fit
- You need more control over individual features or a custom configuration.
- Your traffic pattern or expected volume makes the bundled plan a poor fit.
- You want to model costs directly against your expected usage.
AWS describes these as general fit considerations, not a guarantee that one model will be cheaper. Compare the actual traffic, request volume, feature set, and current rates for your distribution.
How to estimate CloudFront delivery for a video workload
Start with the amount viewers watch and the bitrate actually delivered. A rough data-transfer estimate is:
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Delivered GB ≈ average delivered bitrate (bits/second) × viewer hours × 3,600 ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000,000
This is an explanatory estimate, not an AWS quote or guaranteed billing calculation. It excludes protocol and container overhead and does not account for cache or delivery effects. For example, different renditions, viewer locations, and cache behavior can change the traffic and request profile. Estimate requests separately, including the requests generated by your playback and delivery setup.

- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Gather audience inputs: estimate monthly viewing hours, the average bitrate viewers receive, and where those viewers are located.
- Estimate data and requests: calculate approximate delivered GB/TB, then determine expected request volume for your distribution and playback pattern.
- List configuration and features: identify the origin, security, DNS, logging, edge compute, and other services you expect to use.
- Compare both billing models: check flat-rate allowances and included features against the workload; for pay-as-you-go, enter the relevant traffic, request, geography, and configuration assumptions into AWS’s live pricing resources.
- Recheck before launch: validate rates, plan availability, allowance rules, and any separately billed components on AWS’s live pages.
There is no supported universal CloudFront price per minute of video in AWS’s published pricing information. A minute watched can represent very different delivered data depending on bitrate and viewing setup, and the bill also depends on requests, geography, and configuration. Use workload-specific inputs rather than a generic per-minute figure.
What flat-rate plans include—and what can still cost extra
AWS flat-rate plans bundle CloudFront with selected AWS services. The included services vary by tier; consult the plan details rather than assuming every feature is included. AWS describes inclusions such as WAF and DDoS protection, Route 53 DNS, CloudWatch Logs ingestion, TLS certificates, serverless edge compute, and S3 storage credits. Plans apply to one distribution with up to one apex/root domain. AWS-origin transfer from services such as S3, ALB, or API Gateway to CloudFront is free or waived under the plan, according to AWS’s documentation.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
The plan price is not necessarily the full cost of a video service. S3 storage itself, some log storage, delivery or query options, additional metrics, and Lambda@Edge invocations may be billed separately. Encoding, packaging, application services, and other components outside CloudFront can add costs too. Review the included-feature list and the pricing pages for every component in your architecture.

What “no overage charges” means for a traffic spike
AWS says flat-rate plans have no overage charges and that allowances are not hard limits. AWS sends notifications at 50%, 80%, and 100% of an allowance. In a product update dated March 24, 2026, AWS said it accommodates a first spike of up to three times a monthly allowance in that month; excess is assessed over multiple months. Significant, prolonged excess may lead AWS to adjust delivery. The Developer Guide says adjustments can include serving from fewer or more distant edge locations or changing performance.

So a plan does not create an overage invoice when usage crosses an allowance, but sustained, substantial excess is not a guarantee of unchanged delivery. Monitor usage notifications and review capacity or the plan if demand remains above its baseline. See AWS’s flat-rate plan documentation and March 24, 2026 product update.
Keep the CDN estimate separate from the live-streaming workflow
CloudFront is a content delivery service; its pricing is not, by itself, a complete estimate for keeping a prerecorded YouTube channel live around the clock. If your specific goal is to loop uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service made for that workflow: it keeps the stream running from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free day.
