Those features are its main differences from a basic Fire TV remote. Amazon documents how they work and which devices are supported, but there is no independent performance testing here of button response, comfort, battery life, durability, or reliability. What does the Alexa Voice Remote Pro add?
Amazon announced the Alexa Voice Remote Pro on September 28, 2022, as a premium remote for its Fire TV experience. Its three defining features are a speaker-based Remote Finder, two programmable buttons, and motion-activated backlighting. Amazon described the product as a way to find a misplaced remote and reach favorite apps and content more quickly.

Remote Finder
When the remote is paired with a compatible Fire TV or Echo Show, you can ask, “Alexa, find my remote.” Amazon also says you can start the finder with the dedicated Remote Finder button in the Fire TV app when the paired device is a Fire TV. The remote’s built-in speaker then rings. Amazon notes that the ring may take up to 30 seconds to start and will sound for up to five minutes, or until you press a button on the remote.
Two customizable buttons
You can assign the buttons to shortcuts for favorite apps, channels, and Alexa actions, including routines. Amazon’s support instructions say to hold the button you want to configure for five seconds or set it up in Fire TV settings, then follow the on-screen prompts. Customizable shortcuts are unavailable in Child profiles.

Motion-activated backlighting
Amazon says the buttons illuminate when you pick up the remote in a low-light setting. The available information does not establish how bright the lighting is, how quickly it activates, or how much it affects battery life.
Will it work with your Fire TV?
Amazon lists support for a range of Fire TV players and televisions, but compatibility depends on the exact model and generation. Its guide names Fire TV Cube generations 1 through 3; Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max generations specified in the guide; Fire TV Stick generations 2 and 3; Fire TV Stick Lite, Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Select, and the third-generation Fire TV pendant.

Amazon also says smart TVs with Fire TV built in are generally compatible, with an explicit exception: Element and Westinghouse Amazon Fire TV smart TVs are not supported.
Because model names and generations matter, check Amazon’s current Alexa Voice Remote Pro compatibility guide against the exact model number of your player or television before purchase. Do not rely on the Fire TV brand name alone.

Using it with Echo Show
Amazon lists Echo Show 15, Echo Show 15 (2nd Generation), and Echo Show 21. On these displays, the remote navigates apps and services within the Fire TV experience; it does not control Echo Show widgets or other skills and services.
What does Remote Finder require?
Amazon’s support instructions list several conditions for the finder to work: the Pro must be paired to a compatible Fire TV or Echo Show, the remote and paired device must be registered to the same Amazon account, they must be within 30 feet (10 meters) of each other, and the paired device must be powered on. For Fire TV Sticks, Amazon specifies using a dedicated power source with a compatible 5V, 1A adapter and cable, or an equivalent.

The Fire TV app’s Remote Finder icon is not available when the remote is paired with an Echo Show. In that setup, the voice command is the documented way to start the ring.
How does it compare with a basic Fire TV remote?
The case for paying extra is specific: the Pro combines a finder, illuminated buttons, and configurable shortcuts in one remote. If you often misplace the remote, use Fire TV in a dim room, or want a physical shortcut for a favorite app or Alexa routine, those additions may be useful. If you do not need those functions and are satisfied with your existing remote, the Pro’s distinguishing features may not justify replacing it.

Verdict: who should buy it?
For an owner of a confirmed compatible device, the Alexa Voice Remote Pro is a focused upgrade rather than a necessary replacement. Its strongest reason to buy is the combination of Remote Finder and two shortcuts, with backlighting as an additional convenience. Consider it if those particular functions solve a recurring annoyance; otherwise, keeping the remote you already have is reasonable. Amazon’s feature descriptions are not independent evidence of how the remote performs in everyday use.
