1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is not a Fire Tablet rebrand. Amazon presents it as part of a new tablet line running Android with Google Play access and built-in Alexa+, while TechCrunch reports that Amazon’s earlier tablets ran Fire OS and used Amazon’s app store. The practical choice depends on whether you want that Android app access and the 12 Pro’s large screen and dedicated accessories—or a particular Fire model’s features and price. Because Fire Tablet is a range, a fair price or spec comparison requires naming a current model.
Is the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro a Fire Tablet?
No. Amazon introduced three models under the Alexa Tablet name: the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Amazon Alexa Tablet 11, and Amazon Alexa Tablet 8. TechCrunch reports that an Amazon spokesperson described them as an all-new line with new hardware and a new operating system, rather than a Fire Tablet rebrand. Amazon’s announcement and TechCrunch’s report establish the product distinction, though not a model-by-model comparison with current Fire hardware.

How do software and apps differ?
Alexa Tablet 12 Pro
Amazon says the Alexa Tablet line runs Android and includes access to Google Play. It also comes with Amazon experiences such as Prime Video, Kindle, Audible, Amazon Music, Amazon Quick, and Amazon Luna. Alexa+ is built in. Amazon says the tablet’s on-screen intelligence is opt-in, can be disabled in Settings, and displays an indicator when Alexa can see the screen.
Fire Tablets
TechCrunch reports that Amazon’s previous tablets used Fire OS and Amazon’s app store. That is a description of the earlier tablets, not proof that every current Fire model has identical software or app support. Check the listing and software details for the specific Fire device you are considering, especially if access to a particular app or Google Play matters to you.

What does the 12 Pro offer for work and media?
The 12 Pro is the large-screen, productivity-oriented option in Amazon’s new line. Its 12-inch display has 280 pixels per inch, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Amazon offers a standard display and an optional Nanomatte anti-glare display. Its aluminum unibody, quad Dolby Atmos speakers, and Wi-Fi 6E round out the announced hardware.
Amazon lists a 4nm eight-core chip and configurations with up to 16GB of RAM. The company claims nearly three times faster processing and nine times faster graphics than any tablet it had previously shipped. Those are Amazon’s comparisons, not independent benchmark results, and they do not establish how the 12 Pro performs against a specific Fire model.

Amazon’s October 8, 2026 announcement gave U.S. starting prices of $499.99 for the 12 Pro and $549.99 for the Nanomatte version, $329.99 for the 11, and $229.99 for the 8. These are announcement prices, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price. Amazon said the tablets would be available for purchase that day and begin shipping October 14 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada; shipping in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, and Spain was scheduled to begin October 19. The announcement listed Amazon.com and select retailers including Best Buy and Target. Availability and prices can change, so check the listing for your region.
Which one should you choose?
- Consider the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro if you want a 12-inch 3:2 display, Android with Google Play access, built-in Alexa+, or Amazon’s dedicated pen and keyboard accessories.
- Consider a smaller Alexa Tablet if the 11-inch or 8.7-inch format better suits your reading, browsing, or streaming needs; the 8 is the most portable of the three by screen size and listed weight.
- Compare a Fire Tablet by exact model if you are shopping for a Fire device. Its current display, apps, battery claims, accessories, configuration, and price need to be checked against the corresponding Alexa Tablet in the same market.
There is no responsible blanket winner between the 12 Pro and “the Fire Tablet”: Fire is a product range, and the available information does not establish a current Fire model baseline. For a valid head-to-head, compare the same region and date, and verify the precise Fire model and configuration before weighing price, display, software, or battery life.
