If you want to start, monitor, or steer coding-agent work from your phone without Discord, choose the route that matches where the agent runs: GitHub Mobile for GitHub-hosted sessions, the Claude app for Claude Code, or a mobile client or bridge such as Paseo or HAL to reach an agent running on your own computer. These options are different architectures, not interchangeable chat apps.
Choose by where the coding agent runs
The key choice is whether you want to hand off a repository task to a hosted service or control an agent process on a computer you manage.

- Hosted, repository-centered work: GitHub Mobile can start and track coding-agent sessions associated with GitHub repositories, then let you review completed work.
- Claude Code across devices: The Claude app supports a mobile Code workflow, session handoff between devices, and remote control of local sessions subject to plan and CLI requirements.
- Your own local agent setup: Paseo and HAL are third-party projects that provide mobile access to agents running on your machine, using different connection and messaging approaches.
Before choosing, check execution location, repository or provider support, permissions and approvals, logs, billing, and what the mobile interface lets you inspect—not just how messages appear on a phone.
GitHub Mobile: start and review GitHub-hosted sessions
GitHub’s documentation says users can start third-party coding-agent sessions from GitHub Mobile, follow progress, and review completed sessions. Mobile entry points include assigning an agent to an issue, mentioning one in a pull-request comment, or using the Agents interface. GitHub names Anthropic Claude and OpenAI Codex among supported third-party agents; those agents are currently in public preview. See GitHub’s documentation on third-party coding agents.

What you need to set up
The repository and account or organization must permit the relevant agent. Depending on the agent app and organization policy, installation, authorization, and enablement may be required. GitHub describes partner agents as GitHub Apps built by partners; administrators may therefore need to review app access and policies before a user can start a session. Details are in GitHub’s documentation on agent apps.
How work and usage are handled
This route is designed around GitHub repositories and GitHub’s agent workflow. GitHub says sessions use Actions minutes and AI credits, with credit usage depending on the model and tokens; work may draw on included allowances. The exact eligibility and billing terms can change, so check the current plan and organization rules before relying on a particular allowance. The current documentation is the relevant reference, rather than treating older rollout announcements as current pricing.

Anthropic documents using Claude Code from the Claude app on iOS and Android. Its session teleport feature moves a session between mobile, web, desktop, and terminal. Anthropic also documents remotely controlling a local session from a phone or the web, so the mobile interface can reach an agent running on your computer rather than requiring every workflow to begin as a hosted GitHub session.

Remote-control requirements
Anthropic’s help article states that claude remote-control can spawn a new local session from the mobile app for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans when using CLI version 2.1.51 or later. Plan eligibility and CLI requirements are product details that can change; verify them in Anthropic’s Claude Code power-user guidance before setting up a workflow.
Choose this option if Claude Code is your agent and you want to move between its mobile and local workflows. For local remote control, consider whether the computer running the session will be available when you need it, what permissions the process has, and how you will inspect its changes.

Paseo: a mobile client for locally running providers
Paseo describes itself as a mobile and web interface for agent providers that run on the user’s machine. Its project says the app does not send code elsewhere and describes connecting through an optional encrypted relay, a local-network connection, or a personal tunnel. Those are claims by the project, not independent security verification. Review the project’s current setup and security information at Paseo.
This approach may suit developers who want to keep an existing local-provider workflow while changing how they reach it from a phone. Check that your specific provider is supported, understand which connection method you will use, and assess the project’s maintenance and trustworthiness before connecting it to code or credentials.

HAL: expose local agent subprocesses through Telegram
HAL is a third-party project that its maintainers describe as launching a coding-agent subprocess for each configured project and exposing agents through Telegram. Its documentation says it uses the same CLI configuration and project instruction files, and lists Node.js 18 or later, an installed and authenticated supported CLI, and a Telegram bot token as prerequisites. Consult the HAL repository for its current supported agents and setup instructions.
The repository also documents project access controls, rate limits, and logging. Those controls are useful to evaluate, but their presence in maintainer documentation is not an independent security assessment. Treat the bot token and the local machine’s project access as sensitive; verify who can reach the bot, what projects it can invoke, how logs are stored, and whether the project remains actively maintained.
Compare the options before connecting an agent
| Route | Where work runs | Mobile role | Key checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| GitHub Mobile agents | GitHub-hosted agent sessions associated with repositories | Start sessions, follow progress, review completed sessions | Repository and organization policy, supported agent, app authorization, AI credits and Actions minutes |
| Claude app and remote control | Claude Code workflow; remote-control mode reaches a local session | Use Code on mobile, move sessions between devices, or control local work | Plan eligibility, CLI version, local machine availability, permissions, review workflow |
| Paseo | Providers run on the user’s machine, according to the project | Mobile or web client connected by relay, local network, or personal tunnel | Provider compatibility, connection setup, project maintenance, security claims |
| HAL via Telegram | Local coding-agent subprocesses per configured project, according to the project | Telegram interface to configured agents | Supported CLI, bot-token handling, access controls, rate limits, logs, project maintenance |
Hosted GitHub sessions can fit issue-to-pull-request work inside GitHub. Local remote-control tools can fit a workflow where you already run agents on a computer and want to steer that machine. Neither distinction, by itself, proves that one option is more secure or capable than another.
Quick Recap
Preflight checklist for phone-based agent access
- Execution location: Is the task running in a vendor-hosted session or on a computer you control?
- Agent and repository support: Does the mobile route support your chosen agent, provider, repository, and project instructions?
- Permissions and approvals: What files, tools, credentials, and actions can the agent access, and where are approval requests handled?
- Review and auditability: Can you inspect diffs and logs from the phone, and where is the final work reviewed?
- Billing: Are usage costs tied to a plan, AI credits, tokens, or Actions minutes? Confirm current terms with the provider.
- Availability and setup: Does local control depend on your computer being online? Do you need an installed CLI, an authenticated provider, or network and bot configuration?
- Mobile controls: Can you only send instructions, or can you also monitor progress, approve actions, and examine completed changes?
